Suggestopedia

• Introduction :
• What is suggestopedia? 🤔
• Suggestopedia is a teaching
method developed by the Bulgarian
psychotherapist Georgi Lozanov. It
is used mostly to learn foreign
languages. Suggestopedia is a
portmanteau the words
“suggestion”and “pedagogy”.
•Philosophy :
• Georgi Lozanov of Bulgaria developed
the “Suggestopedia” method from a
personal belief that most people fill only
a fraction of their brains’ capacity during
a lifetime of learning. He believed that
adults set up affective obstacles to
learning by being afraid to try new
experiences or by being preoccupied or
nervous.
• Genral informationabout suggestopedia : 🔍
• Suggestopediais based on modern understandingof
how human brain works and how we learn most
effectively.
• This method focuses on developinga relaxing
environment
that students can feel calm and relaxed in.
• relationshipbetween students and teacher in this
method is like a child parents relationship. 👨‍🏫
• The teacher play baroque music in the background,
which helps to provide a nice ambiance for the learning.
• The three phases of suggestopedia are:
1- pre-session students are informed of the topic
And materials of the lesson.
2- Sessions students experience the lesson.
3- Post-session- various elaborations of the topic are
used to encourage assimilation of the text such as role
playing or monologues.
*Note : In thisuniquemethodof teaching theteacher hasan
extraordinary amount of psychological influenceovertheir students.
Advantages and disadvantages :
• Advantages :
1- Suggestopediamethoduse musicduringthe process
of learning.
Thatcreates relaxedstatesfor mind,the mainconcept
of suggestopediamethodis thatusingmusicduringthe
processof learning.
2- Suggestopediamethods havedifferentclasssetting(
beside usingmusicalsodecoratethe class withposters
or somethingthat keeps the studentmindrelaxedAnd
help to focuson lesson.suchas Posters, flowers,
aquarium,vocabulary,rangechairs intoa semi circle
shape)
• Disadvantages:
1- Using music in classroom, beside that it’s considered as
an advantage it can also be an disadvantage because some
people can’t study or concentrate in noisy classes ( some
students say that they can’t divide their minds into two
sides to the music and to the lesson, they prefer to study in
quite places.)
2- Suggestopedia method is difficult to be practiced in
development countries such as Indonesia or jordan 😅 Due
to the large number of students ( also large numbers of
students a,re hard to control), on the other hand it can be
applied in European countries such as Netherlands.
3- the last disadvantage is decorating the class part or class
setting, decorating class will need much money and high
cost that some countries can’t afford.
• Conclusion 💡:
• Any teachingmethod has advantagesand
disadvantages,it’s our responsibilityas teachers
to be able to choose the most suitable method
for our students accordingto their age and level
of intelligence.
• Suggestopediais a good teachingmethod
because the memorizationprocess can be done
25 times faster than conventionalmethods
