Knowing Yourself
•You must think in the moment.
•You must have a process identified for dealing with life’s experiences.
•People want to take you where they live, for this is the only way that they
can both relate to you and control you. This is their playground.
•We all live with basic fears of being alone or of not being in control of our
lives.
•See the moment, and make a conscious choice to either remain in the
struggle or to escape from it.
•Become aware, ignore catalyst, avoid catalyst, confront catalyst, learn
from catalyst.
•Must be able to think objectively and not subjectively.
•Point = the facts are constant for both parties; the interpretation of those
facts are the conflict.
•Point = you must be capable of making choices in the moment and
accepting the consequences of those choices after the moment has passed.
The PEOPLE Approach:
Success Through Common Sense Series
•People judge by the surface, because there they can distinguish the
differences. Looking any further beyond the surface removes the
differences and leaves you with only a reflection of yourself.
•Over indulgence of any pleasure is a torture/torment to yourself and
your soul, because it feeds the cycle of self destruction.
•Stick with the most basic command and follow it.
•Verify what you have been taught vs. accepting it as what you know.
•What others believe is their right, but it is not their right to force their
beliefs on others.
•You cannot forsake yourself for someone else.
•There is always a cost to any confrontation.
•However, once you have decided what you are willing to give up (cost),
then you are free to walk away from that catalyst.
•That is why you must know your own catalysts and you have to know
what your values are so you can make a decision in the moment.
•We make decisions in an instant of time, but others interpret those
decisions over years in time.
•You must hold yourself accountable for your decisions, but don’t let
someone else hold you accountable for your choices.
The PEOPLE Approach:
Knowing Yourself
Success Through Common Sense Series
•Only becomes a catalyst when you refuse to make a choice in the
beginning. By trying to satisfy dual expectations or achieve dual rewards,
you establish the groundwork for constant conflict.
•Ask: What roles do you play in life?
•Answer: the conflict comes when choices challenge different roles you
play in life, and, when you can’t prioritize which role is most important
for your life, you flounder/waiver between these roles trying to “win” or
“survive” in all of them, and therefore succeeding in none of them.
•1st role priority = should be self. Then can’t let others manipulate you
into the other various roles of your life. You choose the “parts you play”
and when. Must allow the role of self to influence the other “masks”
you wear in order to have the ability to choose, and then it doesn’t
become a catalyst.
•So what is self? Who is self? What does self want and need? Don’t give
others the right or the authority to make your self choices.
•You are what you choose to be. Your refusal to choose is in itself a
choice to let others create you.
The PEOPLE Approach:
Knowing Yourself
Success Through Common Sense Series
•Point = only you have the right to judge yourself, because only you must
live with yourself. In doing so you are asking God Am I whole? Am I
worthy?
•You can’t live life by should have, would have, could have.
•You must identify the catalysts in your life, you must accept the choices
you made, and you must grow beyond both.
•Life is short. The more time spent on reflecting on your actions means the
less time spent on experiencing your life.
•You can’t atone for other’s actions or choices, only for your own.
•You can’t change another person, only how you choose to interact with
that person.
•So set yourself free by accepting your limitations, by identifying your
catalysts, and by developing your process for overcoming those catalysts,
and by understanding who you are and what you really want out of this
life.
The PEOPLE Approach:
Knowing Yourself
Success Through Common Sense Series
•Influence vs. Manipulation = creates the catalyst.
•Influence = try to inform with your perspective.
•Manipulation = try to conform to your perspective.
•This duality creates conflict.
•This OR that, NOT this AND that.
The PEOPLE Approach:
Knowing Yourself
Our minds create our symbols to define our
existence, therefore giving our existence purpose and
meaning in our minds. We use education and religion
to procreate this in order to create a social order of
cooperation and control.
The managing and understanding of the various social
and political differences is essential in establishing any
political order or structure, and the implementation of
such a system into any culture is dependent upon how
the people of that culture understand and abide by
such a system.
Success Through Common Sense Series
The PEOPLE Approach:
“Influence Attitudes, Manage Behaviors”
Attitudes = Your Approach/Beliefs
Behaviors = Your Actions/Choices
Consequences = Your Conflicts/Results
So…WHO DO YOU CHOOSE TO BE?
