28 th  december , 1932 A legend was born to Jamunaben and Hirachand Ambani-a school teacher at Chowrad village in Saurashtra , Gujarat.
1947 Sailing the seas at the young age of 17, Dhirubhai  reached Aden ( now a part of Yemen) and worked for A.Besse co ltd. The sole distributor for Shell He dreamt of setting up a bigger and better refinery back home in India- which is now Reliance petroleum
1958 Returned to India –Mumbai and started his first company Reliance commercial corporation, a commodity trading and export house
1966 Working his way around Mumbai”s  Mulji jetha Market, buying and selling yarns in blazing afternoon sun. He finally found a meagre finance to purchase manually operated knitting machines for Naroda textile unit. The first step in his highly successful backward integration strategy.
1975 From early days Dhirubhai focus was on creating the “State of the art world class plants” World bank certified that Reliance”s textile plants was Excellent by developed country standards----ONLY VIMAL
1977 Reliance went public with IPO Dhirubhai introduced a equity cult in India A new model of business  leadership from a base of the broadest public shareholding
1982-88 Reliance succesfully commissioned polyster manufacturing facility at Patalganga. Another step in backward integration
1991 Reliance commisioned  phase-1 of Hazira petrochemicals complex. Consolidated its position in polysters Entered into attractive polymers business
1992 Reliance raised US$ 150 Million by pioneering foray into overseas capital markets. First ever International GDR  offering by an Indian corporate
1993 Pioneered the first ever Euro convertible bond issue by an Indian company for US$140 Million Reliance raised Rs 2172 crores from the domestic capital market for setting up a world class and world large scale refinery at Jamnagar, Gujarat The largest ever public offering by any Indian corporate.
1994 Reliance made the single largest GDR issue aggregating US$ 300 Million Dhirubhai Ambani was chosen as a  “Businessman of the year-1993”  by Buisness india magazine
1995 Reliance became the first private sector company to be rated by “International credit rating agencies” Reliance became the first private sector company from India to raise US$ 300 Million in the international debt market in two landmark transactions
1996-97 Reliance tapped the US debt market with  5 yankee bond issue for a total of over  US$ 600 Million The maturities for these issues were right across the yield curve ranging from  10-100 years
1996-98 Reliance completed phase-ii expansion of Hazaria petro chemicals complex including worlds largest multifeed cracker with an investment of over 9000 crores(US $2.5 billion) This increased Reliance production capacity fourfolds to more than 6 million tonnes per annum
1998 Dhirubhai Ambani was awarded the  Deans medal by the Wharton school, University of Pennsylvania-USA, for setting an outstanding example of Leadership Dhirubhai Ambani was chosen as a  “Star of Asia “ by Business week, USA
1999-2000 Integrated Jamnagar complex comprising worlds largest grassroots refinery with a capacity of 27 MTPA, petrochemicals, power, and port commissioned with a total investment of Rs 25000 crores(US $ 6 Billion) This represents the largest industrial investment ever made by an Indian group at any one location.
2000 Reliance consolidated its position as the single largest shareholder in BSES. Indias leading power utility company Reliance announced its Infocom foray with a capital outlay of upto Rs 25000 crores( US$ 5 Billion) addresing entire telecom market in India with a national foot print Dhirubhai Ambani was voted as  “Creator of Wealth” of the century in The Times of India poll
2000 Dhirubhai Ambani was confered the  “Indian Entreprenur of the 20 th  century” award by  FICCI for meticulous scripting of one of the most remarkable stories  of business endeavour of the 20 th  century. Dhirubhai Ambani was  felicitated  by the Municipal corporation of Greater Mumbai at a civic reception
2001 RIL and RPL become Indias two largest companies in terms  of all financial parameters Dhirubhai Ambani was conferred ,  The Economic times Award for Corporate Excellencefor Lifetime Achievement
