This chapter is based on the book Hydraulics of Spillways and Energy Dissipators By Rajnikant M. Khatsuria, This lecture slide describes the design of Overflow and Ogee spilways for Masters Students in Hydraulic Engineering
The document discusses water pressure on lock gates used to transfer boats between different water levels on opposite sides of dams. It describes how lock gates work and how water pressure creates forces on the gates. Specifically, it explains that water pressure creates a force P on each gate, and the gates exert an equal and opposite reaction force F on each other. The total pressure is shared between the top and bottom hinges of each gate. Mathematical equations are provided to calculate the individual reaction forces on the top and bottom hinges based on the water levels, gate dimensions, and other parameters. As an example, calculations are shown to determine the force acting on each gate for a given lock gate configuration and water levels.
This document provides an outline for a presentation on evaluating the performance of desilting basins used in small hydropower plants. It discusses the problems caused by sediment in SHP plants and how desilting basins are used to trap sediment before it reaches turbines. The objective of the study is to evaluate the performance of existing desilting devices and examine the impact of sediment on turbines. Data was collected from 14 SHP sites through site visits. Desilting basin efficiency was evaluated using various methods and compared to observed efficiency. Analysis found the effect of desilting basin efficiency on turbine runners.
Piping systems experience various loads that can cause stresses and damage if not properly managed. Pipe stress analysis ensures stresses, equipment loads, and displacements are within safe limits to maintain structural integrity over the piping system's design life. The analysis involves modeling the piping system, applying load cases for different conditions, analyzing stresses and loads, adding supports as needed, and producing a report with results and annexures to verify structural integrity.
The document discusses the direct step method for determining water surface profiles for nonuniform open-channel flow. In nonuniform open-channel flow, the cross-sectional area, depth, and velocity vary along the channel. When the change in fluid depth along the channel dy/dx is much less than one, the flow is classified as gradually varied flow.

The document discusses different types of spillways and energy dissipaters used in dams. It describes overflow or ogee spillways, chute spillways, and other spillway types. The main purposes of spillways are to safely release surplus water from the reservoir and regulate floods. Energy dissipaters, like stilling basins, are structures that reduce the high kinetic energy of water flowing from spillways to prevent erosion. Hydraulic jumps, baffle blocks, and deflector buckets are common dissipater types discussed in the document. Design considerations like discharge calculations, basin length, and tailwater conditions are also covered.

This document discusses critical flow in hydraulic engineering. It defines critical flow criteria as when specific energy is minimum, discharge is maximum, and the Froude number equals 1. Critical flow is unstable, and the critical depth is calculated using the section factor formula. The section factor relates water area, hydraulic depth, discharge, and gravitational acceleration. Hydraulic exponent is also discussed as it relates the section factor and critical depth for different channel geometries. Methods for calculating critical depth include algebraic, graphical, and using design charts. The document concludes by defining flow control and characteristics of subcritical, critical, and supercritical flow in a channel.

1) The document provides an overview and objectives of a training package on fluid mechanics and flow through pipes for engineering students.
2) It includes the Bernoulli equation, energy grade line, hydraulic grade line, friction losses, minor losses, and piping networks.
3) Example problems are provided to calculate head loss due to friction in laminar flow and estimate the elevation and pressures required for a given water discharge rate in a pipeline system.
This document discusses the continuity equation in fluid mechanics. It defines the continuity equation as the product of cross-sectional area and fluid speed being constant at any point along a pipe. This constant product equals the volume flow rate. The document then derives the continuity equation mathematically by considering the mass flow rate at the inlet and outlet of a pipe with varying cross-sectional areas but steady, incompressible flow. It provides an example calculation and solution for water flow rates and velocities through pipes of different diameters.
The document discusses various aspects of selecting a site for a diversion headworks and its components. It provides criteria for selecting an optimal site, such as the river being straight and narrow, having a higher elevation than the irrigation area, and having stable banks. It also discusses types of weirs, barrages, and other structures used at diversion headworks, such as under sluices, fish ladders, canal head regulators, and silt control works. Key considerations for site selection aim to minimize construction costs and water losses while safely diverting water for irrigation.
This document outlines the design of a canal regulator using HTML. It will involve learning about canal regulation structures like cross regulators and distributary head regulators. The team will design these structures for a specific canal scenario using HTML and AutoCAD. They will create a user-friendly interface in HTML that allows users to design canal regulators easily by varying parameters. This will help people design regulators worldwide using the online template. Team members will learn about canals and HTML before dividing tasks - some will focus on HTML designs while others use AutoCAD based on the HTML outputs. The final output will be an online tool for simple and affordable canal regulator design.

This document contains 11 multi-step physics problems involving fluid mechanics concepts like pressure, viscosity, density, and fluid flow. The problems are solved with relevant equations for ideal gases, compressible fluids, laminar flow, and viscometry. Detailed calculations are shown to determine values like mass, pressure, shear stress, drag force, velocity, and viscosity based on given variables like temperature, volume, pressure, velocity, dimensions, torque, and fluid properties.
Gravity dams are structures designed so that their own weight resists external forces. Concrete is the preferred material. Forces acting on the dam include water pressure, uplift pressure, earthquake forces, silt pressure, wave pressure, and ice pressure. The dam's weight counters these forces. Dams are checked when full and empty, accounting for load combinations. Gravity dams can fail due to overturning, crushing, tension cracks, or sliding along foundation planes. Design aims to prevent failure from these modes.

This document discusses flow through pipes in series, parallel, and equivalent pipes. It defines compound or series pipes as pipes of different lengths and diameters connected together to form a pipeline. The total head loss in a series pipe system is equal to the sum of the head losses in each pipe section. It also defines parallel or looping pipes as pipes that branch out from the same point and rejoin downstream, where the discharge is split between the pipes and the head loss is the same across each pipe. The document introduces the concept of an equivalent pipe that can replace a compound or parallel pipe system, having the same total discharge and head loss. It presents Dupuit's equation for calculating the diameter of an equivalent pipe for a compound system.
The document discusses the design of intake structures for hydropower plants. It describes different types of intakes including run-of-river intakes, dam intakes, tower intakes, and shaft intakes. Key considerations for intake design include minimizing head losses, preventing vortex formation, and excluding sediment. Control gates, trash racks, and other intake features are described. Location and orientation of the intake as well as dimensions of intake towers and conduits are important design factors.

2. Sondaj Nedir ?
Sondaj; Dünya yüzeyinde delik açmaya
yarayan yöntemlere verilen addır.
Çeşitli amaçlar için, çok fazla türde sondaj
teknikleri ve ekipmanları mevcuttur. Bu
anlamda biz, amacı Su üretimi olan sondaj
türünü inceleyeceğiz.
7. •
Su taşıyan tabakanın suyu depolama
ve iletme gibi iki önemli özelliği
vardır. Bu özellikte ki oluşumlar
akifer olarak bilinir. Bir kayacın
akifer olabilmesi için;
•
•
•
•
- Kırıklı, başluklu ve gözenekli olması,
- Bu gözeneklerin su ile dolu olması,
- Gözeneklerin irtibatlı olması,
- Akifer altında su geçirmeyen bir
tabakanın yer alması,
gerekmektedir.
•
pasture.ecn.purdue.edu
• Serbest Akifer :
Her taraftan
su alabilen üsten hava ile temas
halinde ve alt kısımlarında geçirimsiz
bir tabaka bulunur.
• Basınçlı
Akifer
:
Atmosfer
basıncından daha fazla bir basınç
altında, iki yada daha fazla geçirimsiz
tabaka arasında yer alıp serbest
yüzeyleri yoktur.

8. SU SONDAJLARINDA YAPILAN
İŞLEMLER
Delgi işlemi
Her jeolojik formasyonda farklı hızda ve farklı
matkapla ilerleme gerekir.

MATKAPLAR:
Sert formasyonlarda bilyalı,
Yumuşak formasyonlarda kanatlı matkap,
çok yumuşak formasyonlarda testere dişli
matkaplar kullanılır.
Çok sert formasyonlarda ise, elmas
matkaplar kullanılır.
Kilde elmas matkap, kesinlikle,
kullanılmaz.
10. Örnek (numune) alma işlemi ve yöntemleri:
Delme işlemi başladıktan sonra her
metrede
bir
kesilen
formasyonun
tanınabilmesi için örnek alınır ve karelere
bölünmüş gözler şeklinde dizayn edilen
örnek sandıklarına yerleştirilir. Bu gözler
ikiye ayrılarak bir kısmına yıkanmış diğer
kısmına da yıkanmamış örnekler konur.
Kuyu
teçhiz
işlemi
sırasında
bu
örneklerden
yararlanılarak
borulama
işlemi yapılır.
Örnek alma işlemi;
Kırıntılı örnek alma (Dolaşım sıvısı ile),
Bozulmuş
örnek
alma
(Darbeli
sondajlarda),
Değişmemiş
örnek
alma
(Karotlu
sondajlarda),
12. Su sondajları, genellikle, sedimanter kayaçlar içerisinde açıldıklarından
borulama işlemi iki şekilde incelenebilir.
- Kuyu içerisinde yıkıntı yapmadan uzun süre durabilen pekişmiş kayaçların
olduğu kısımlarda bazı şartlar altında borulama işlemi yapılır.
Şöyleki;
- Pekişmiş kayaç olmasına rağmen akifer sularını kaçıracak şekilde çatlaklar
ihtiva etmesi durumunda,
filtrelenir.
Su sondajlarında kullanılan koruma ve filtreli boru türleri;
- Saç borular (Dikişli, Spiral ve Galvanize),
- Çekme borular,
- Paslanmaz çekme borular,
- Özel alaşımlı borular,
- PVC boruları,
- Yapay malzemeli borular,
Filtreler ise;
- Düz filtreler,
- Köprü tipi filtreler,
- Sargılı filtreler,
- Yapay malzemeli filtreler.
14.
15.
16. Borulama yöntemleri:
Boru dizisinin oluşturulması aşağıda
verilen yöntemler kullanılarak yerine
getirilir.
1- Eklemeli Borulama:
En altta yer alan kapalı kuyruk
borusundan en üsteki ağız borusuna
kadar olan boru dizisinin birbirine
kaynakla,
manşonla
yada
flanşla
eklenmesi ve kuyuya indirilmesi işlemidir.
Bu yöntemde dizi, en üstte bulunan ağız
borusundan askıya alınır. Boru dizisinin
en altında (kuyruk boru) yer alan ve
kuyuya kum vb. maddelerle, kuyuya
düşebilecek yabancı maddelerin filtreleri
zedelememesi için yerleştirilen bir boy
koruma borusu bulunur. Boru dizisinin en
alt ucu açık bırakılmamalıdır. Ağız kısmı
ise, yaklaşık olarak zeminden 1 metre
kadar
yukarıda
bulunan
koruma
borusudur.

17. 2- Teleskopik borulama:
Borulama işini, birbirleri ile bağlantıları
olmayan ve iç içe geçen birden fazla
boru
dizisi
ile
gerçekleştiren
yöntemdir.
Teleskopik borulamada en geniş çaplı
borular en önce indirilir. Bunlardan
sonra, daha küçük çaplı boru dizileri
önceden yerleştirilmiş boru dizileri
içerisinden kuyuya indirilirler.
Teleskopik
borulama
eklemeli
borulamaya oranla daha zor ve zaman
alıcı bir yöntem olup, sondaj maliyetini
arttırdığından zorunlu kalınmadıkça
başvurulmamalıdır.

Çakıllamanın amaçları;
- Kuyunun yıkılmasını önlemek,
- Filtrelerin tıkanmasını önlemek,
- Formasyonlardan kuyuya gelen suyu süzmek,
- Geçirgenliği arttırmak.
Çakıllamanın amacına ulaşabilmesi için, temiz ve yıkanmış
olması, tane yapıları köşeli olmayıp küresel olmalı (podima
çakılı), suda erimeyen ve suyun özelliklerini bozmayan
kimyasal yapıda olmalı.
Kendini tutabilen pekişmiş formasyonlarda
yapılmasına pek gerek duyulmayabilir.

24. STERİLİZASYON İŞLEMİ
Bir su sondaj kuyusunun yapımında en son
aşama kuyunun ve kullanılan tesisatın
sterilizasyonudur.
Su sondaj kuyularının sterilizasyonu için
kullanılan en yaygın yöntem, klorlama yolu
ile yapılan işlemdir.
Çakıllarda barınan bakterilere kuyu yapımı
bittikten sonra ulaşmak zor olabilmektedir.
Bu nedenledir ki; çakılların kuyuya
atılmadan önce klorlu su ile yıkanmaları
yararlı olur. Yıkama aşamalarında yapılan
çakıl tamamlama borularına da klorlu su
dökülmelidir.
25. SONDAJLARDA TAHLİSİYE (Kurtarma) İŞLEMİ
Delme işlemi esnasında formasyonlardan yada sondaj
dizisinden kaynaklanan bazı nedenlerden ötürü ilerlemeyi
etkileyebilecek hatta kuyunun elden çıkmasına neden
olabilecek bazı olumsuz olaylar meydana gelebilir. Bu
olumsuz olayların giderilmesi için yapılan işlemlere tahlisiye
denir. Bu işlem için çeşitli ekipmanlar mevcuttur
Tahlisiye işleminde dikkat edilmesi gereken hususlar;
- Kuyu elden gidiyormu ?,
- Kullanılacak malzemenin değeri ?,
- Kurtarma işleminin maliyeti ?.
26. SONDAJ GÜÇLÜKLERİ ve ÖNLEMLERİ
1. Dolaşım bozukluğu
- Sirkülasyon kaçağı (kaçak önleyici maddeler,
borulama, çimentolama, kaçaklı sondaj)
- fışkırma (basınç dengeleme, basınç koruyucu)
2. Yıkılma ve göçük: Formasyonun yumuşaklığından,
çamurun sıva yapamamasından, dolaşım bozukluğu
3. Şişme ve sıkışma: Çamur kötülüğü, dolaşım
bozukluğu, sudan dolayı şişme, sondaj makinasının
bozulması
4. Formasyonun erimesi: Tuz ve kil erimeleri
önemlidir. Tuzu eritmeyen dolaşım maddesi sağlanır.
Tuza doygun çamur katkılı bentonit ile elde edilir.
5. sondaj kazaları: Dizinin kopması veya çözülmesi,
Borunun kopması, kuyuya yabancı madde düşmesi, vb.
6.
Düşeyden
sapma:
Doğal
nedenlerle
(formasyonlardan kaynaklanan), teknik sebeplerden
(sapma kullanılır).
27. Peki, Sondaj maliyetleri ne kadara
olacak. ?
Bunlardan bazıları: Zemin özellikleri, derinlik, şirketler in
ücretleri vs.
Biz kabaca bir maliyet hesabı yapacak olursak:
• Ruhsat maliyeti = 500-750TL
• Zemin etüdü maliyeti = 500-1000 TL
• Sondaj maliyeti = 60-120 TL/m
• Borulama(Teçhiz) = 15 – 30 TL/m
• Çakıllama (inkişaf) = 15 TL/m
• Pompa = 1000-10.000 TL
• Bu maliyetlere göre 100 metre bir kuyunun toplam
maliyeti yaklaşık
• 15.000-30.000 TL arasındadır.
