Ability in Disability through Standards & Technology hosted by R V College of Engineering,
Mysore Rd, Bengaluru with the theme of Consumer Level Assistive Devices/Applications.
From our 2016 Hackathon, out of the 24 selected projects 7 project teams were mentored
at AIISH, Mysuru and 1 project got productized.

Assistive technology is any item, piece of equipment or product system whether
acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase,
maintain or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
Desirous of generating a plethora of ideas from the young generation pursuing
technical courses in India, this Hackathon provides a platform to develop innovative
solutions on improving device interfaces, reducing the cognitive and linguistic
demands with special focus on low cost product designs.
Project proposals and Ideas are invited from Students, Faculty and Researchers to
showcase their technical abilities. Given below are few themes to ponder upon but
not restricted for the proposals:
 Devices/Apps for communication between persons with and without Speech & Hearing impairment
 Developing new technology platforms for the disabled
 Assistive Technology / Adaptations to enable persons with disabilities to board or alight a public or private
transport (car/bus/train/flight)
 Assistive technology based learning platforms / methods in school and higher education
 Re-engineering existing Assistive Devices / Applications to Indian context of usability, language and
affordability used by disabled as well
 Create plugins/add-ons/APIs that could be used by Webdevelopers, Mobile App Developers to enable the
apps to be used by disabled as well (Universal Design Concepts)
 Social Media enablers for persons with disabilities/Geriatric population
 Creating Mobile Apps to:
o Create Audio Stimuli (Pure tone audiometry)
o Auto calibrate phone audio signal chain by loop back
o Upload audiometry data from Mobile to an IEEE 11073 compatible gateway
