Organisms in the water, especially saltwater, attach to slick surfaces like a boat's hull. It doesn't take long for a boat hull to become slimy with algae. Algae pave the way for adherence of other organisms. The general term for organism on a boat hull is fouling. Fouling makes boats drag, use more fuel and harder to maneuver. Invasive organisms spread by hitching a ride on the underside of a boat. Common marine foulers include barnacles, algae, shellfish, tunicates, ship-
worms, gribbles etc.
Wood borers are highly specialised animals which penetrate wooden structures such as boats, wharves, jetties, driftwood and even living mangrove trees. Many can digest the wood owing to cellulose-digesting bacteria or protozoa living in their guts. Only a few species can actually produce their own cellulose-digesting enzymes (cellulases).Wood borers are insects that chew their way into the solid trunk of a living tree or into a wooden structure, such as an old boat or house. Healthy trees are rarely attacked by wood borers, but a diseased or dying specimen can often host these kinds of invaders. The same goes for old houses and boats, where rain-soaked or rotten wood is more susceptible to invasion.
Asbestos Awareness - Things You Should Know to Stay SafeA
Ever heard of asbestosis or mesothelioma? Asbestos is a serious threat to many people who are involved in the maintenance and repairing jobs of old buildings. Although asbestos exposure does not have an immediate impact on your health, asbestos fibres can lead to fatal medical complications. In this article, you can start your journey of asbestos awareness. Also, you will learn about the safety measures required to save yourself from asbestos contamination.

Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

2. Mining
• The extraction of valuable minerals or other
geological materials from the earth from an
orebody, lode, vein, seam, or reef, which
forms the mineralized package of economic
interest to the miner.
• Ores recovered by mining include metals,
coal and oil shale, gemstones, limestone, and
dimension stone, rock salt and potash, gravel,
and clay.
3. Pros of Mining
• it brings in large amount of profits for the companies
doing the mining. It also provides employment for
people who are unemployed in the mining regions.
• Mining for gold, coal and other ores are valuable
because they are useful in manufacturing useful
consumer products.
• The country will also benefit from the taxes being paid
by the companies conducting the mining excavations.
4. Cons of Mining
• Deforestation
• Pollution
• environmental degradation
• soil erosion
• destruction of natural habitats for wild animals
6. What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a group
of minerals with
thin microscopic
fibers. These
fibers are
resistant to heat,
fire, and
chemicals and do
not conduct
electricity,
asbestos has
been mined and
used widely in
the construction,
automotive, and
other industries.
7. When does Asbestos Become a
Health Issue?
• If asbestos itself and products containing
asbestos are disturbed, the tiny fibers are
released into the air. When they are
breathed in, they can become trapped in the
lungs and stay there for many years. Over
time these fibers can accumulate and lead to
serious health problems.
8. The problem includes:
• Asbestosis
An inflammatory
condition of the lungs.
• Mesothelioma
a rare cancer that affects
the lining of the lungs,
chest cavity, or abdomen
9. • Pleural Plaques
Pleural plaques occur
when fibrosis is
localized in a specific
region of the lung.
Plaques are a
distinctive feature of
asbestos exposure
that cause functional
impairment.
10. • Bronchogenic lung
cancer
Bronchogenic lung
cancer is brought
about through
interstitial pulmonary
fibrosis, which then
becomes malignant
when the body’s
autoimmune defenses
break down .
11. Pathways of Asbestos
• Exposure to asbestos fibers occurs
through ingestion, skin contact and
inhalation.
12. How can exposure to asbestos be
reduced?
• Safety and Health Administration
should enforce regulations related to
mine safety. Workers should use all
protective equipment provided by
their employers and follow
recommended workplace practices
and safety procedures. For example, -
approved respirators that fit properly
should be worn by workers when
required.
