This document discusses methods for analyzing statically indeterminate structures: 1) The compatibility/flexibility method uses redundant forces as unknowns and considers geometric conditions to obtain additional equations. Flexibility is the displacement from a unit force. 2) The equilibrium/displacement method uses joint displacements as unknowns and expresses equilibrium equations in terms of moments and rotations to find displacements. Stiffness is the force from a unit displacement. 3) Examples of each method are provided, including the consistent deformation method, Clayperon's theorem, and moment distribution.
