Musical Analysis Of Beauty And The Beast
In the realm of entertainment, Disney leads the way with creativity, bringing to life fairytales and
stories that only the most imaginative child could come up with. Children of all ages, teenagers,
and adults leave the theater of a Disney movie inspired, empowered, and entranced by the magic
and wonder brought about.
Beginning in 2010 with Alice in Wonderland (Devoe n.pag), Disney has now resolved to produce
live action remakes of everybody s favorites, including Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book,
and most recently, Beauty and the Beast. The original Beauty and the Beast was an all time
favorite when it came out in 1991 (IMDb n.pag), and now those same children, as adults,
experience the nostalgia brought about by the 2017 live action version. Beauty and the Beast
surpasses all expectations from both children and adults alike.
Without a doubt, the film s soundtrack leaves viewers singing well after the movie has ended,
exactly as good music should. From Belle, to Gaston, to everybody s favorite, Be Our Guest, the
soundtrack provokes the appropriate emotions for the tone of each scene. In the most notable song,

The Symbols Of Kwanzaa And African-American Culture
Kwanzaa History
Kwanzaa, a seven day holiday that celebrates African American heritage. Dr. Maulana Karenga
created Kwanzaa to help African Americans remember their roots and to foster unity during a
time of incredible racial strife. It s been observed from December 26 to January 1 every year since
1966. Karenga, a controversial figure in the black power movement, openly opposed Christian
beliefs and originally declared that Kwanzaa should be an anti Christmas of sorts. The name
Kwanzaa is derived from matunda ya kwanza, a Swahili phrase for first fruits, is based on
traditional African harvest festivals, combining customs from several different cultures. Each
of the seven days represents one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa, or nguzo saba. There are
also seven symbols of Kwanzaa, which celebrants display prominently in their homes throughout
the holiday. The colors of Kwanzaa are red, black and green the colors of the Pan African flag,
which symbolizes unity among African people all over the world. Black represents the people,
red their blood and green the earth and the future. Kwanzaa is, of course, a festive time; it has all
the feasting and celebrating you d expect from a weeklong holiday, but it s also an occasion for
reflection, conversation, contemplation and camaraderie. And although it s a relatively young
holiday, it has its fair share of very specific, detailed traditions. (Cooper, A. (2011, July 25).

Status Symbols
Social class is best described as a large group of people close to one another in property, power,
and prestige. (227) These three things effect our lives more than anyone gives them credit for.
They also mainly go hand in hand with one another. Property is exactly what you think it is. It is
the house you own, the land you have but it is also the jewelry you have, your bank accounts.
When you add up the value of someones propter and subtract their debts you are left with what is
called wealth. (227) With that being said sometimes wealth and income are confused, wealth is
the value of the things you own while income is your flow of money, and they can differ greatly at
times. A good example used by our sociology book is that a famed has all of his land and animals
yet has a dry season and cannot sell his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prestige is the respect or regard someone or something has. Jobs have prestige from more pay,
they required more education, involved more abstract thought, and offer greater independence.
The people who hold jobs with higher prestige also gain prestige. These rankings are constant not
only in America but across the globe. Status symbols are things that people buy to outwardly
show how much money they have to gain them prestige with others. Status symbols are not only
things you can wear, it can be the place you gained your education. How everyone prefers name
brand foods over say great value brand is a form of status symbolism. It is important to try and
fully understand the inter workings of social class in the U.S. because we are confined to social
classes. A good comprehensive understanding of the class system is to understand why people do
certain things, what situations they are faced with, and the opportunities they have. These social
classes not only affect our wealth it effects our health, family lives, education and even religion.
This social stratification is what has led to the break down into

Burke s Nakedness Of Adam And Eve
Burke identifies a norm of a naked expulsion of Adam and Eve beginning by 1500, which
contradicts the biblical account God made coats of skins and clothed them before forced to leave
the Garden of Eden. According to Burke, until about the early 15th century, all Italian iconography
of Adam and Eve expulsions were fully clothed or with covered genitalia. Afterwards, Adam and
Evewere shown to be fully naked post expulsion from the Garden as seen in Masaccio s infamous
Expulsion from Paradise (1423). Burke s ultimate observation on Adam and Eve s portrayal of
nakedness after being expelled from Eden is that it serves a purpose beyond the fall of man. An
array of various classical texts, Vitruvius On Architecture (c. 15th), Diodorus Library of History
(Latin: 1450) and Lucretius s De Rerum Natura (Bracciolini: 1417) which described early human

Man s nakedness (i.e. Adam and Eve) symbolically represents his essential state (On Literary
Polish 1462), the ability to rise and fall (Oration of the Dignity of Mankind 1486), to create
civilization (On Discovery 1499), to rise from bestial conditions, the potential to be clothed, to
create dwellings, to craft (Book of Craftsman 1400), to be the first achiever in the entire course of
human history. According to Burke, it serves a functional purpose to portray such nakedness, since
it visually identifies the couple Adam and Eve from other historical figures in the cycles of uomini
famosi during the Quattrocento as well as speaks to the continual potential of man to clothe
himself, naturally leading to other human

Analysis Of The Poem Caged Bird By Maya Angelou
The poem Caged Bird by Maya Angelou tells the story of two birds: one bird has the luxury of
freedom and the second bird lives its life caged and maltreated by an unknown tyrant. Maya
Angelou wrote this poem during the Civil Rights Era, the period when black activists in the 1950
s and 1960 s fought for desegregation of African Americans. This poem parallels the oppression
that African Americans were fighting during this time period. In Caged Bird , Angelou builds a
strong contrast that shows the historical context of discrimination and segregation through the use
of mood, symbolism, and theme. The mood of Caged Bird changes drastically from stanza to
stanza. Angelou s specific diction choices help to reflect the change from being positive to
negative with some elements of hope involved. The parts of the poem involving the free bird
provide the reader with a feeling of self government. In contrast, the mood associated with the caged
bird is confinment. Despite the negative mood tied to the caged bird there are still elements of
hope woven into these stanzas. The first stanza of the poem introduce the free bird. Angelou uses
words such as leaps . . . and floats (Line 1 3) in description of this character s movements. These
actions relate directly to moving without restrictions. The words leaped and floats are contradicted
immediately in the second stanza as Angelou brings the caged bird into the picture. Angelou uses
diction that complements confinement

The Importance Of Globalization
Globalization has been in a toss up on the valuableness of its control and how it benefits the world.
Many views have come up due to the advancement of the world collectively, some believe it has
only benefited society has a whole while others say it has brought only destruction to the social and
cultural aspects. Two professors at highly ranked universities discuss their views on Globalization
and how it has influenced the world. Globalization has greatly impacted the world through its social
relations through culture. Amartya Sen at Harvard University expresses his views on Globalization
through the spread of intellectual ideas and how it takes one great idea to spread across the globe.
Amartya Sen has a positive outtake on the developing nature on Globalization. He believes the
rise in Globalization in the past years as brought a new standard of living through social
correlations. In an example to prove Globalization has benefited the people he uses the history of
mathematics, In his history of mathematics, Howard Eves explains that around 1150 A.D.,
Gherardo of Cremona, in his translations from the Arabic, rendered jaib as the Latin sinus, the
corresponding word for a cove or a bay. (Sen 2012, 18). Math is one language that is the same in
any country across the globe, Sen was referring to the concept sine and how it was created in India,
but developed in other countries. It was not just one country who came up with the concept of
math. In his book, he shows how Indian

The Mental Consequences Of Drafting Soldiers
The military trains soldiers to be mentally and physically unbreakable, but the emotional
baggage they carried expose them to mental and physical risks. Soldiers that are draft run a
higher risk of developing mental disorders because the emotional and physical stress they
experience contributes to their mental instability. In The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien
shows the mental consequences of drafting soldiers, who struggle to reconcile their emotional
state, and fail to maintain their sanity. Drafted soldiers have no choice but to fight, so they come
in mentally vulnerable. Once they are involved in warfare, they become susceptible to Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder. Soldiers are trained in military bases, where they learn the craft of
warfare before being sent to combat. They are prepared physically and mentally, but nothing
compares to the real situations in battle. In The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien says It was
my fourth day [...] I felt a moist sickness rise up in my throat. I sat down beside the pigpen,
closed my eyes, put my head between knees, (O Brien, 214). This quote demonstrates how O
Brien is unable to deal with death, even though he was prepared to confront it. O Brien mental
state starts to deteriorate and he seems to have an emotional breakdown. For example, The young
soldier stood off by himself at the center of the field [...] the boy s face was impossible to make
out. The filth seemed to erase identities, (O Brien, 156). In this moment,

The Boston Herald s Article Lizzie Borden
Women cannot be murderers. Even though this was not explicitly stated in the newspapers, The
Boston Herald in its article Lizzie Borden conveys the perception that the feminine ways
associated with women would make it impractical for women to commit murder. Lizzie Borden,
a young lady accused of brutally killing her stepmother and father with multiple blows to their
heads with a hatchet was described as a religious, sincere, and modest human being in The Boston
Herald s article covering Lizzie s life before and after the murders. During Lizzie s youth, she
suffered from isolation because of her reserved personality and belief that nobody appreciated her
presence, but in womanhood turned her life around and attain friendships who vouched for her
good character during the time of the investigation. The Boston Herald s article Lizzie Borden: Her
School and Later Life A Noble Woman
, Though Retiring , successfully persuades the reader of
Lizzie Borden s innocence with the focus on her femininitythrough diction and logic. The word
choice throughout the article promotes sympathy towards Lizzie that reiterates the idea that women
are incompetent of committing heinous crimes. For example, in The Boston Herald s article
Lizzie Borden states, Her dark, lustrous eyes, ordinarily flashing, were, dimmed, and her pale face
was evidence of the physical suffering she was undergoing and had experienced which implies the
misery Lizzie has encountered after the death of her

Character Analysis Of King Kong
King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are
feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and
makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s
motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such
as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While
writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love
story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between
Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it
challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that
shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout.
Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is
feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the
characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the
ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers
describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates
imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog,
they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is
when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re
going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it.
The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex
character. At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and
destroys, but later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as
himself usually does not display. A moment where the complexity of King Kong s character is
shown is when Ann and Kong have their first real

Changes In The Hellenistic Period
As a result of the Greeks spreading throughout many regions following Alexander the Great s
conquests, the Hellenistic period saw old ways of thinking replaced with new ideas that reflected
changes in society and the blending of diverse cultures that had now been exposed to one another.
As Greek language and lifestyle swept through Egypt and West Asia, and major cultural hubs like
Alexandria came to prominence, the Greek way of life had a profound effect on these distant lands,
just as their own exotic customs and histories similarly affected Greek thought and culture. This,
along with the changing political climate in these regions, led to a period of immense advancement
in philosophical and religious discourse that would forever change the course of history and pave
the way for the birth of Christianity. The three most significant catalysts for change in Hellenistic
religion were the exposure of diverse cultures to one another, the vast changes in political and
societal life during this period, and the shifts in philosophy and religious thought... Show more

In the Hellenistic period, philosophy became very popular and was often treated as a religion
(Noble 104). By replacing a lot of mythological ideas with philosophical ones, people could
become more focused on their own pursuits of happiness and self fulfillment and less concerned
with the ideologies of the gods. It makes sense that philosophies would become more
individualistic at this time, since the societies had dropped the concepts of democracy and the
collective whole. Those who still believed in gods often chose gods who were relevant to the
contemporary issues of the time. Classical Athenian religion upheld the standards of the democratic
society but the religions in the Hellenistic period addressed the new spiritual concerns that resulted

Alliteration In Ozymandias
Ozymandias is believed to be more powerful than the Gods themselves. Ozymandias is an iambic
pentameter sonnet with imagery, alliteration, irony, and symbolism. He thinks highly of himself
as the King of Kings and he believes he is the ruler of great and vast lands, but the poem reveals
nature and time has overcome him and his kingdom, leaving behind ruins of him, and lone and
level lands around him full of emptiness. The author is vivid with his uses of imagery in this
poem. He is very descriptive of the pieces of the statue, and the ruins of the wreck. Half sunk, a
shatter d visage lies, whose frown And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command, this is a good
example of Shelley describing the statue s ruins using imagery. Here is another example of the

The First Ever Demonstration Of Artificial Embryo Twinning
Cloning is the process by which a genetically identical copy of an organism has naturally
occurred or been created in a laboratory. A process of cloning can be completed on a wide range
of biological materials, including genes, tissues, cells and entire organisms (Genetics Generation,
2015). The first ever demonstration of artificial embryo twinning was accomplished on a sea urchin
by Hans Adolf Eduard Driesch in 1885 (Oppenheimer, 2016), yet the most significant cloning
example was attained in 1996, where Dolly the sheep , the first mammal clone was created by
somatic cell nuclear transfer by Ian Wilmut and Keith Campbell (University of Utah, 2016). In
2002, the Council of Australian Governments agreed to ban human cloning and other unacceptable
practices and regulate research involving excess assisted reproductive technology embryos. Cloning
was banned in response to community concerns, including ethicality of the uses of human embryos.
Changes to this legislation came into effect in 2007, to allow therapeutic cloning due to the
increase in research from other countries (National Health Medical Research Council Australian
Government, 2015). However, in contrast to humans, animals have always been legally allowed to
be cloned unethically and sold for their meat, as long as the meat complies with the food safety
conditions and regulations of the world (Kelly L., 2005). Cloning is a contentious topic with
multiple ambiguous viewpoints which can be discovered and observed

Vladek In Maus

in his book in a very distinctive and potent way. Spiegelman s novel chronicles the life of his
father, Vladek, who is a Holocaust survivor. He uses racial stereotypes to depict each character by
his or her nationality; Jews as mice, Germans as cats, and Poles as pigs. This unique portrayal of
the characters can be attributed to the positive reception that Mausreceived upon its release. The

However, once one delves into Speigelman s character, it becomes very simple to understand how
vital he really is. Moreover, further insight into Speigelman s character facilitates the explanation
of why he designed Maus the way that he did. Very early on in the novel, readers are able to
cognize the burdensome weight the Holocaust placed on Speigelman as a child and even as an
adult. Speigelman is constantly reminded of the horrific events that his parents had to face,
even by just being near them, especially his father. He also feels that he must incessantly
compete with Richieu, his ghost brother , who passed away before Art was born. All this
repressed guilt was finally liberated when he decided to write Maus in the medium he was most
familiar with comics. However, while writing Maus, Speigelman was acutely aware that
genuinely conveying such a story is impossible, even once noting to Françoise, reality is too
complex for comics...so much has to be left out or distorted (Speigelman 16). It is for this reason
that Speigelman chose for his novel to convey a story within a story; as well as depicting Vladek s
struggles during the war, Maus also shows Speigelman s troubles with publishing his book. The
underlying reason for publishing Maus, however, is to pay tribute to his parents, whose graves

A Dividend Payment For Shareholders
A dividend is the part of a firm`s earnings that are paid to the shareholder, either in monetary
terms or as shares. In the UK, dividends are paid by UK quoted companies semi annually and are
taxed depending on an individual`s income (Arnold, 2008 GOV.UK, 2015). According to the
Financial Times (2015) however, a dividendpayment to shareholders is not an obligation, in fact a
business`s board of directors are able to opt whether they desire to make a dividend payment or
not, depending mostly on the health of the business. If so, the dividend payment to shareholders
is made from a firm`s accumulated profits or reserves pots, with the anticipation that the firm can
cover this withdrawal of monetary funds by injecting further cash quickly and efficiently into the
firm or shareholders may receive dividends in forms of shares, in this situation, a firm is unlikely
to lose much as shareholders would be likely to reinvest into the firm. Conversely, if a firm`s board
of directors opt the opposing decision, not to make a dividend payment, this is likely to be due to a
firm supporting an insufficient cash flow or the monetary fund s being identified as needed
urgently for more meaningful purposes, such as reducing debt (The Financial Times, 2015).
Despite this, the main question in consideration is: whether a rational investor considers dividends
when determining the value of shares? In order to answer this question effectively, this essay shall

will observe the objectives, strategies, assumptions, and strengths and weaknesses of the company s
competitors. Based on the growing global market pertaining to motorcycles, we shall observe the
external environment. Due to the increase in the industry the company faces many competitors.
Some of the company s biggest competitors are the Japanese manufacturers, Honda, Yamaha,
Kawasaki, and Suzuki. When the Japanese manufacturers entered the industry they became
dominated by stylish designed motorcycles at a inexpensive price. Hence, due to their management,
designs, and advanced products at an affordable price, the Japanese manufactures held an
competitive advantage. They also provided diverse products that allowed for them to gain
knowledgeable use of economies of scale and scope in manufacturing. This allowed for them to
produce new models with advanced features and lower price, gaining a larger customer base.
Although, the Japanese manufactures were dominate in many ways, the British manufacturer,

A Book That Is So New And Fresh On The Literary Scene
Reading a book that is so new and fresh on the literary scene that even the professor has yet to
finish reading it is something that I don t encounter very often on college courses that often
have a tendency to focus on books that are at least ten years old. In addition to this novel being
so new, it was also special in the fact that it took place in the area that we are studying it in. This
gives the class the opportunity to talk about the piece in the way that they can really relate to, and
this is only more true when the author of the book is able to come and speak with the class. So
with these things being taken into consideration, being able to read and analyze this book in this
class is definitely a notable opportunity. Reading this specific piece of creative nonfictionis a perfect
example of how much of a privilege getting a college education as a top tier university truly is. This
book is part of the longstanding American tradition of men to write about their experiences in
nature. It is important to note how important nature is in the scope of American literature. The
ability for a person the retreat into nature is what makes differentiated American life and the books
based on it from the European country that it gained independence from. This nature writingwas
revitalized by Transcendentalists such as Emerson and Thoreau who normalized the narrative of the
everyman being able to go into nature and learn about himself and the environment that he is a part
of.

Ford Model T Essay
The ford Model T was the first car mass produced in the U.S during the early 1900 s. The Model
T had a 4 cylinder 20 horsepower engine that could reach speeds of about 40 miles an hour. They
come in different colors, but they were mostly produced in black. They were relativley simple, and
reliable cars. It changed the factor of automobiles and transportation because people went from
horse and buggy to full out automobiles. Henry fordwas the first person in the U.S to use what s
called the assembly lineand it worked well to his advantage. The ford model t production line and
other competing motor companies are different as ford had a different way of of building cars
using assembly lines, while other companies did not use this method. The inventor of the Ford
Model T, Henry ford, Produced the first ever model t on October 1st, 1908. On this date, henry
did not realize how well business was going to be for him. From this date, until May 26, 1927
Henry ford produced over 15,000,000 model Ts, which was unheard of at the time. Because of
the method of creating these vehicles, called the assembly line that you see today, he was able to
ramp up production and sucess. The assembly line didn t start until 1913, when Henry soon

Many Americans believe that their health care system is the finest in North America, and probably

Unfortunately, only 3% of America s gargantuan healthcare expenditures goes toward preventive

Analysis Of The Half-Mammals Of Dixie, By George Singleton
South Carolina is too small for a republic and too large for an insane asylum, James Lewis
Petigru is a perfect quote to describe The Half Mammals of Dixie by George Singleton. We will
explore how much the characters in the story would make per year, try to determine their cost of
living and look at how the depressed southern economyplays a role on the rone of these stories.
Economicsand a time of depression had to play a big part in why Singleton chose to write these
stories the way he did so by going over the short stories Fossils and Bank of America we will get
a better understanding of how big the economic impact really was. Fossils by George Singleton
tells the story of a young boy named Compton and his father during the 1970 s. Compton was
attending a school that was going through the racial integration process. Compton s father was anti
racismand was trying to prevent a racist man in town, Mr. Dorne from keeping the news of the
outside world from the people of the town. Compton says, So my father maybe the only man in
town in favor of integration responded in the only way he knew how. He awoke me at midnight.
(Singleton, 20) Takes his son on a journey to fight racism in their small town attacking Mr.
Dorne who is a part of the KKK. Compton says, I tiptoed to what used to be a guest bedroom,
where he now slept, and of course didn t find him there (Singleton 34). Although it never says
exactly what his father s profession is in the story it does make several mentions to him tearing
down buildings so maybe he works construction but it would seem that his profession allows him
to own a three bedroom home, afford to take care of his son Compton and own a car all on his
own. Based on the research and the assumption that Compton s father was middle class he
probably made around ten thousand per year. Bank of America by George Singleton is about 4
childhood friends, who at the time of the story are all grown up and coming back to their childhood
treehouse to drink, hunt, fish and talk about their lives past and present. The main characters have a
vast employment span between them, Russel the carpenter, Dean the banker, Evan the English
professor and me, (Singleton, 139) Some of the

Deviance Regulation Theory Analysis
Deviance regulation theory seeks to explain why people choose to deviate from behavioural
norms in order to create definitive identities for themselves (Blanton 2003:115). The theory
states that people want to choose how they are viewed by people, by deciding in which way they
are different from others (Blanton 2003:115). Deviance regulation theorists believe that
differences in behaviour is what gives people their individuality (Blanton 2003:115). However,
people have the opportunity to choose specific ways in which way they would like to deviate
from these behavioural norms. Deviance regulation theorists believe that people decide to deviate
in ways that are positive and favourable as opposed to the ways that are viewed as negative (Blanton

The three types of commitment are said to be the cause of why people make deviant actions (Ulmer
2000:317). Whether people choose to behave counternormatively depends on how they interpret the
situation they are in (Ulmer 2000:317). Structural commitment has to do with the external factors,
which shape the actions of a person depending on the environment and the people involved (Ulmer
2000:318). Personal commitment has to do with internal factors, whether a person wants to follow
through with a certain action (Ulmer 2000:318). Moral commitment also involves internal factors;
however, these factors are not based on internal desire they are based on whether an action is
believed to be right or wrong (Ulmer 2000:318). Therefore, the threefold commitment theory states
that people choose to make deviant acts based on a combination of these three factors. I believe
deviance regulation theory can be improved using the threefold commitment theory. One of the
main problems with the deviance regulation theory is that it focuses on one aspect of deviance, thus
making it less generalizable. Deviance regulation theory can be compared to the personal
commitment aspect of the threefold commitment theory as it only focuses on internal factors. Such
as one s desire to commit a deviant act based on how it will positively impact them. Deviance
regulation theory focuses on the desire to establish an identity through committing deviant acts. I
believe deviance regulation theory only focuses on internal factors that influence deviant behaviour,
which is only one aspect of deviance. Whereas the threefold commitment theory focuses on both
internal and external influences of deviance, making the theory more generalizable to more people
and contexts. Another problem with the deviance regulation theory is that it views deviant
behaviour as a choice based on one s

Objectives and Synopsis
The Arley Merchandise Corporation represents an example of a corporate issuer attempting to
realize a higher price for its common shares by offering potential investors a money back guarantee.
In this instance, the guarantee takes the form of a European put option (called a Right in the case)
which is exercisable two years from the date of issue.
In some ways, the case represents an example of the design of a security to overcome information
asymmetries in the capital markets. Arley s management has projected a highly confident picture to

The unit proposed for sale in the Arley financing then can be characterized as the sale of a share of
common stock plus a two year European put option with a strike price of $8 or, alternatively,
through put call parity, as the sale of a two year zero coupon note with face value $8 plus a two
year European call option on common stock with an exercise price of $8. Thus, the value of the
unit can be broken down in two ways: tC
Market value of the unit
= Market value of stock + market value of put option
= Market value of zero coupon bond + market value of call option
No
Applying the Black Scholes model with a two year riskless rate of 11% per annum, an initial
stock price of $6.50, and a volatility of 40% (as indicated in the assignment question), yields
values of the put and call options of $1.44 and $1.45, respectively.1 Exhibit 4 shows historical
volatility data for comparable firms. The instructor can engage the students in a discussion of
how to use this information in the analysis. The Appendix to this teaching note contains a
discussion of these comparables and sensitivity analysis. However, Black Scholes is not
necessarily applicable because of default risk associated with this particular put option. That is,
put option holders will wish to exercise their right to receive cash at precisely the time that Arley
s stock is low, which is also when the firm will least be able to fund the $8

Religion In The Great Gatsby
A composer s text reveals the values and perspectives, reflecting the altering contexts of society.
F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby divulges the unscrupulous 1920s, comprising of the
hedonistic and materialistic society of America. Correspondingly, Elizabeth Barrett Browning s

mediums explore the notion of religion, either prominently or vaguely utilising a variety of literacy
and poetic techniques.
The lack of religion is evident in The Great Gatsby, befitting to the Fitzgerald s 1920s American

Week Five Reflection ACC/421 Week Five Reflection The concept of time value of money is
accounting is the relationship between time and money (Kieso, Wygandt, amp; Warfield, 2007).
The common expression is that money today is worth more than the assurance of money received
tomorrow. The reason for this saying is the investment opportunities and borrowing options.
Understanding how to compare present and future values of moneyand learning how to use the

A company can use the present value concept to determine the value of a property today that is
expected to earn the minimum of the projected future cash flow or the amount of money that needs
to be invested today to reach a desired future sum. Investors who are interested in acquiring
businesses would use the present value of money concept. Probably the main example of how the
present value of money is applied in accounting is: a company wants to accumulate $100,000 in five
years and they know there is an 8% interest that is compounded annually. A company would take
that information and the present value of money concept to determine the amount of money they
need to invest today. Applications of Future Values of Money Computing the future valueof money
allows accountants to calculate compound interest. The future value of money is used to determine
the rate of return at a specific time at a particular interest rate. Companies use it to make financial
decisions involving money held for deposit, comparing interest applied to loans or receivables, or
investments. Accountants can calculate future values using a single sum today or with periodic
payment. Examples of periodic payments include rents or any payment that requires constant
payments generally of the same amount. Accountants can also use future value to determine the
amount of money, interest, and periodic payments required

The Worker Management Techniques Essay
Film History In the Silent Era:
The Worker Management Techniques and Capitalist Vertical Integration
Within Hollywood
The film industry would have never taken the direction it did without the incorporation of certain
worker management techniques and capitalist vertical integration pioneered by the founders of
Hollywood. The methods of operation that Hollywood established in the realms of production,
manufacturing, exhibition and distribution of film has shaped the face of the industry to how we

The Trust attempted to control the industry by charging rental fees for cameras and projectors,
and by inflating the cost of film. These tactics proved to be unsuccessful with the swift and
adverse emergence of Hollywood producers, unsatisfied with the conditions by which they were
forced to operate beneath the Trust. Many of these independent figures founded the companies we
are so accustomed to presently. Adolph Zukor founded Paramount, William Fox founded 20th
Century Fox, Carl Laemmle founded Universal, and Marcus Loew founded what would
eventually be known as Metro Goldwyn Mayer. The warm temperature and year round sunlight of
the west coast was very beneficial for the new studios. This along with low land costs and no real
established union allowed producers to focus more on the content of their output. These studios
along with others were quick to brand their individual products and began to make innovations in
the medium of film as an art form. Actual plays, novels and magazine content became incorporated
into the development of stronger and more interesting plots. 1 These studios were producing
complex stories for their films in order to make them longer and of superior quality to the Trust s

The Movie The Legend
This movie is about Chris Kyle, who is a dedicated Navy SEAL sniper. He is referred to as The
Legend because he is one of the greatest, deadliest snipers and has killed dozens of people.
American Sniper really shows the effect war has on a person and how Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder changed his life. Throughout his four tours in war, Chris was exposed to actual and
threatened death. Which is one of the requirements to have PTSD. A lot of those situations
where he experienced the actual or threatened death were people he cared about deeply, which
definitely impacted him. Not only that, but he had killed dozens of people as well so he
witnessed it all in person and had a direct experience. The four categories of symptoms for PTSD
are intrusion, avoidance, negative cognitions/mood, and arousal/reactivity. He clearly displayed
symptoms in each of these four categories especially when he would return home to his family.
There was a scene where Chris was sitting in a chair staring at a TV that was not on but there were
sounds of constant gun shots and a helicopter. He was having an auditory hallucination, which falls
under the category of intrusion. Another symptom Chris presented was avoidance. When his wife,
Taya, asked him what he wanted to do that day, he did not want to leave the house. This was
probably because he was avoiding any situation which could remind him of the traumatic events he
had experienced. Although, that was not the only thing he avoided. Each time

Of Being Earnest In Oscar Wilde s The Importance Of Being...
Being earnest is impossible in Oscar Wilde s play The Importance of Being Earnest. Earnestness is
more often equated with sincerity. Sincerity or earnestness is not only displayed in the title but it is
the main theme of Wilde s work and using satire, the playwright shows the hypocrisy of the morally
upstanding, and the inability of the upper and middle class of Victorian England to be earnest.
When one thinks of the Victorian English period, the word prudish might come to mind. According
to Victorian era.org, the Victorian erais often thought of as a time when society and its rules were
rigid and strict, and the values of the period ranged from honesty and a sense of duty to hard
work and sexual propriety. In comparing the Victorian Era with The Importance of Being Earnest
written in a religious England, we can see how Oscar Wilde s work regarding the insincerity of its
characters came to be considered satirical. The main character John Jack Worthington is the best
example of the Victorian sense of morality. Jack has a strong sense of duty towards his ward
Cecily, his home and his servants, yet morally he is a reprehensible character. In creating his
fictitious brother Ernest, Jack is able to make visits to the city in Ernest s place and lead a double
life while his own persona s respectability remains intact. When Algernon learns that Jack is

Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee...
Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and
neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the
community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own
experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this
capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the
training of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a
vision for the program and helped it grow.
While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply.
Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to
community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most
essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone
involved, and not merely the needs of a few.
Catholic School Leadership
The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook
in my early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson
or as leader of the Word Study program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it

Rape Culture And Rape Myths
As kids we were taught about stranger danger; we were taught to protect ourselves from
strangers and as we got older, females were told to protect themselves from getting raped. In this
paper, I will discuss how living in a rape culture affects women and men, how does rape myths
affect society and how we can change the negative effects of living in a rapeculture and rape myths.
In order to understand this, we must first define what rape is.
Rape is unwanted sexual attentions or actions that are directed to a person. Rape can happen to
anyone but it is most common to happen women. Rape happens to women around the ages of 16
24 and it is considered to be at the greatest risk of sexual assault (Aronowitz, Lambert, Davidoff
2012). Also 1 in 5 American women survive rape or attempted rape (Maxwell 2014) and 1 in six
men are abused before they reach the age of 18 (Maxwell 2014). Lastly, the victim is most likely
to know or be related to their attacker (Aronwitz, Lambert, Davidoff 2012). As we can see from
the data above, rape can happen to anyone, not just women. Though because everyone has this
misconception that rape is only for women and that women wanted to be raped has created rape
myths. Rape myths originate from a rape culture. A society only becomes a rape culture when rape
is prevalent and in which sexual violence against women is normalized and excused in the media
and popular culture ( Rape Culture, n.d.). The United States is a rape culture because of

Story and enjoyed the footage, pictures, and interviews of everyone involved in the Loving v.
Virginia case. The documentary addressed the issue of interracial marriagein Virginia in 1967. The
married partners, Richard and Mildred, were woken up in the middle of the night and were
criminally charged for being in the state of Virginia and being married. Richard was a white male,
Mildred was a African Americanand Native American, and that was the problem that they faced at
that point in history. During this time, it was illegal to be of... Show more content on

It got across to us that the two people involved with each other and married are just as normal as
any straight, white, and married couple. The problem people had, and probably still do have, is
that they do not see them as normal people. They are different because of their race, sexuality, class
status, etcetera . The human face and cost is lost in the their eyes. The photos at the end showed
how they were not different from a couple that was made up of two white or two black people.
They were courageous and inspiring people in history and that is what they will be remembered
for. Mildred and Richard Loving made it possible for people of two different races to get
married in their case that made it to the Supreme Court. My reflections after viewing this film,
moved towards thinking about our current situation of not allowing people of the LGBT
community get married. The opinions and bigotry that are still instilled in our society. For those
that say that we have moved past our prejudiced views as a society in the United States; I would
say that they are wrong. The Loving story was significant in so many ways towards moving our
world into a better place for all. The education and consciousness of accepting all people will be
key in future of struggle for equality in this country and around the

Epigrams in Ancient Greece
Cultura clГЎsica occidental e Historia antigua
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ninguna conclusiГіn sГіlida.

  • 4. Musical Analysis Of Beauty And The Beast In the realm of entertainment, Disney leads the way with creativity, bringing to life fairytales and stories that only the most imaginative child could come up with. Children of all ages, teenagers, and adults leave the theater of a Disney movie inspired, empowered, and entranced by the magic and wonder brought about. Beginning in 2010 with Alice in Wonderland (Devoe n.pag), Disney has now resolved to produce live action remakes of everybody s favorites, including Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and most recently, Beauty and the Beast. The original Beauty and the Beast was an all time favorite when it came out in 1991 (IMDb n.pag), and now those same children, as adults, experience the nostalgia brought about by the 2017 live action version. • 5. The Symbols Of Kwanzaa And African-American Culture Kwanzaa History Kwanzaa, a seven day holiday that celebrates African American heritage. Dr. Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa to help African Americans remember their roots and to foster unity during a time of incredible racial strife. It s been observed from December 26 to January 1 every year since 1966. Karenga, a controversial figure in the black power movement, openly opposed Christian beliefs and originally declared that Kwanzaa should be an anti Christmas of sorts. The name Kwanzaa is derived from matunda ya kwanza, a Swahili phrase for first fruits, is based on traditional African harvest festivals, combining customs from several different cultures. Each of the seven days represents one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa, or nguzo saba. There are also seven symbols of Kwanzaa, which celebrants display prominently in their homes throughout the holiday. The colors of Kwanzaa are red, black and green the colors of the Pan African flag, which symbolizes unity among African people all over the world. Black represents the people, red their blood and green the earth and the future. Kwanzaa is, of course, a festive time; it has all the feasting and celebrating you d expect from a weeklong holiday, but it s also an occasion for reflection, conversation, contemplation and camaraderie. And although it s a relatively young holiday, it has its fair share of very specific, detailed traditions. (Cooper, A. (2011, July 25). Kwanzaa: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Status Symbols Social class is best described as a large group of people close to one another in property, power, and prestige. (227) These three things effect our lives more than anyone gives them credit for. They also mainly go hand in hand with one another. Property is exactly what you think it is. It is the house you own, the land you have but it is also the jewelry you have, your bank accounts. When you add up the value of someones propter and subtract their debts you are left with what is called wealth. (227) With that being said sometimes wealth and income are confused, wealth is the value of the things you own while income is your flow of money, and they can differ greatly at times. According to Burke, until about the early 15th century, all Italian iconography of Adam and Eve expulsions were fully clothed or with covered genitalia. Afterwards, Adam and Evewere shown to be fully naked post expulsion from the Garden as seen in Masaccio s infamous Expulsion from Paradise (1423). Burke s ultimate observation on Adam and Eve s portrayal of nakedness after being expelled from Eden is that it serves a purpose beyond the fall of man. An array of various classical texts, Vitruvius On Architecture (c. 15th), Diodorus Library of History (Latin: 1450) and Lucretius s De Rerum Natura (Bracciolini: 1417) which described early human development as naked, wretched and animalistic supports an argument for symbolic... Man s nakedness (i.e. Adam and Eve) symbolically represents his essential state (On Literary Polish 1462), the ability to rise and fall (Oration of the Dignity of Mankind 1486), to create civilization (On Discovery 1499), to rise from bestial conditions, the potential to be clothed, to create dwellings, to craft (Book of Craftsman 1400), to be the first achiever in the entire course of human history. According to Burke, it serves a functional purpose to portray such nakedness, since it visually identifies the couple Adam and Eve from other historical figures in the cycles of uomini famosi during the Quattrocento as well as speaks to the continual potential of man to clothe himself, naturally leading to other human ... • 9. Analysis Of The Poem Caged Bird By Maya Angelou The poem Caged Bird by Maya Angelou tells the story of two birds: one bird has the luxury of freedom and the second bird lives its life caged and maltreated by an unknown tyrant. Maya Angelou wrote this poem during the Civil Rights Era, the period when black activists in the 1950 s and 1960 s fought for desegregation of African Americans. This poem parallels the oppression that African Americans were fighting during this time period. In Caged Bird , Angelou builds a strong contrast that shows the historical context of discrimination and segregation through the use of mood, symbolism, and theme. The mood of Caged Bird changes drastically from stanza to stanza. Angelou s specific diction choices help to reflect the change from being positive to negative with some elements of hope involved. The parts of the poem involving the free bird provide the reader with a feeling of self government. In contrast, the mood associated with the caged bird is confinment. Despite the negative mood tied to the caged bird there are still elements of hope woven into these stanzas. The first stanza of the poem introduce the free bird. Angelou uses words such as leaps . . . and floats (Line 1 3) in description of this character s movements. These actions relate directly to moving without restrictions. The words leaped and floats are contradicted immediately in the second stanza as Angelou brings the caged bird into the picture. Angelou uses diction that complements confinement ... • 11. The Mental Consequences Of Drafting Soldiers The military trains soldiers to be mentally and physically unbreakable, but the emotional baggage they carried expose them to mental and physical risks. Soldiers that are draft run a higher risk of developing mental disorders because the emotional and physical stress they experience contributes to their mental instability. In The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien shows the mental consequences of drafting soldiers, who struggle to reconcile their emotional state, and fail to maintain their sanity. Drafted soldiers have no choice but to fight, so they come in mentally vulnerable. Once they are involved in warfare, they become susceptible to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Soldiers are trained in military bases, where they learn the craft of warfare before being sent to combat. They are prepared physically and mentally, but nothing compares to the real situations in battle. In The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien says It was my fourth day [...] I felt a moist sickness rise up in my throat. I sat down beside the pigpen, closed my eyes, put my head between knees, (O Brien, 214). This quote demonstrates how O Brien is unable to deal with death, even though he was prepared to confront it. O Brien mental state starts to deteriorate and he seems to have an emotional breakdown. For example, The young soldier stood off by himself at the center of the field [...] the boy s face was impossible to make out. The filth seemed to erase identities, (O Brien, 156). • 17. Character Analysis Of King Kong King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout. Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog, they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it. The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex character. At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and destroys, but later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as himself usually does not display. As Greek language and lifestyle swept through Egypt and West Asia, and major cultural hubs like Alexandria came to prominence, the Greek way of life had a profound effect on these distant lands, just as their own exotic customs and histories similarly affected Greek thought and culture. This, along with the changing political climate in these regions, led to a period of immense advancement in philosophical and religious discourse that would forever change the course of history and pave the way for the birth of Christianity. A process of cloning can be completed on a wide range of biological materials, including genes, tissues, cells and entire organisms (Genetics Generation, 2015). The first ever demonstration of artificial embryo twinning was accomplished on a sea urchin by Hans Adolf Eduard Driesch in 1885 (Oppenheimer, 2016), yet the most significant cloning example was attained in 1996, where Dolly the sheep , the first mammal clone was created by somatic cell nuclear transfer by Ian Wilmut and Keith Campbell (University of Utah, 2016). In 2002, the Council of Australian Governments agreed to ban human cloning and other unacceptable practices and regulate research involving excess assisted reproductive technology embryos. Cloning was banned in response to community concerns, including ethicality of the uses of human embryos. Changes to this legislation came into effect in 2007, to allow therapeutic cloning due to the increase in research from other countries (National Health Medical Research Council Australian Government, 2015). However, in contrast to humans, animals have always been legally allowed to be cloned unethically and sold for their meat, as long as the meat complies with the food safety conditions and regulations of the world (Kelly L., 2005). In the UK, dividends are paid by UK quoted companies semi annually and are taxed depending on an individual`s income (Arnold, 2008 GOV.UK, 2015). According to the Financial Times (2015) however, a dividendpayment to shareholders is not an obligation, in fact a business`s board of directors are able to opt whether they desire to make a dividend payment or not, depending mostly on the health of the business. If so, the dividend payment to shareholders is made from a firm`s accumulated profits or reserves pots, with the anticipation that the firm can cover this withdrawal of monetary funds by injecting further cash quickly and efficiently into the firm or shareholders may receive dividends in forms of shares, in this situation, a firm is unlikely to lose much as shareholders would be likely to reinvest into the firm. Conversely, if a firm`s board of directors opt the opposing decision, not to make a dividend payment, this is likely to be due to a firm supporting an insufficient cash flow or the monetary fund s being identified as needed urgently for more meaningful purposes, such as reducing debt (The Financial Times, 2015). The American health care system ranked last out of 10 other developed countries systems, including Australia, Germany, Canada, France, Sweden, New Zealand, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, in a survey by the Commonwealth Fund in 2014 (Hellmann). Countries received ranks according to several factors, like access to a physician or quality of care (Hellmann). Also, preventative care can help a patient avoid the top 9 out of the 10 leading causes of death in America (Fox and Shaw 1). In fact, proper and recommended preventive care services could save an estimated 100,000 American lives (Fox and Shaw 1). Unfortunately, only 3% of America s gargantuan healthcare expenditures goes toward preventive care while America spends a ridiculous 75% of those expenditures treating preventable diseases ( Health Reform ). The necessity of preventive care is obvious, which is why the ACA mandated that, by 2018, all health insurance plans include coverage for preventive care services (Riggin 31). Currently, the ACA requires a large amount of health insurance plans to cover preventive services without charging a deductible or copay (Fox and Shaw 1). Additionally, individuals who became eligible and enrolled in Medicaid because of the ACA expansion will have access to a large selection of preventive services, and will not pay copays or deductibles for certain services deemed essential (Fox and Shaw 2). • 31. Analysis Of The Half-Mammals Of Dixie, By George Singleton South Carolina is too small for a republic and too large for an insane asylum, James Lewis Petigru is a perfect quote to describe The Half Mammals of Dixie by George Singleton. We will explore how much the characters in the story would make per year, try to determine their cost of living and look at how the depressed southern economyplays a role on the rone of these stories. Economicsand a time of depression had to play a big part in why Singleton chose to write these stories the way he did so by going over the short stories Fossils and Bank of America we will get a better understanding of how big the economic impact really was. Fossils by George Singleton tells the story of a young boy named Compton and his father during the 1970 s. Compton was attending a school that was going through the racial integration process. Compton s father was anti racismand was trying to prevent a racist man in town, Mr. Dorne from keeping the news of the outside world from the people of the town. Compton says, So my father maybe the only man in town in favor of integration responded in the only way he knew how. He awoke me at midnight. (Singleton, 20) Takes his son on a journey to fight racism in their small town attacking Mr. Dorne who is a part of the KKK. Compton says, I tiptoed to what used to be a guest bedroom, where he now slept, and of course didn t find him there (Singleton 34). Although it never says exactly what his father s profession is in the story it does make several mentions to him tearing down buildings so maybe he works construction but it would seem that his profession allows him to own a three bedroom home, afford to take care of his son Compton and own a car all on his own. Based on the research and the assumption that Compton s father was middle class he probably made around ten thousand per year. Bank of America by George Singleton is about 4 childhood friends, who at the time of the story are all grown up and coming back to their childhood treehouse to drink, hunt, fish and talk about their lives past and present. The main characters have a vast employment span between them, Russel the carpenter, Dean the banker, Evan the English professor and me, (Singleton, 139) Some of the ... • 32. Deviance Regulation Theory Analysis Deviance regulation theory seeks to explain why people choose to deviate from behavioural norms in order to create definitive identities for themselves (Blanton 2003:115). The theory states that people want to choose how they are viewed by people, by deciding in which way they are different from others (Blanton 2003:115). Deviance regulation theorists believe that differences in behaviour is what gives people their individuality (Blanton 2003:115). However, people have the opportunity to choose specific ways in which way they would like to deviate from these behavioural norms. Deviance regulation theorists believe that people decide to deviate in ways that are positive and favourable as opposed to the ways that are viewed as negative (Blanton ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three types of commitment are said to be the cause of why people make deviant actions (Ulmer 2000:317). Whether people choose to behave counternormatively depends on how they interpret the situation they are in (Ulmer 2000:317). Structural commitment has to do with the external factors, which shape the actions of a person depending on the environment and the people involved (Ulmer 2000:318). Personal commitment has to do with internal factors, whether a person wants to follow through with a certain action (Ulmer 2000:318). Moral commitment also involves internal factors; however, these factors are not based on internal desire they are based on whether an action is believed to be right or wrong (Ulmer 2000:318). Therefore, the threefold commitment theory states that people choose to make deviant acts based on a combination of these three factors. I believe deviance regulation theory can be improved using the threefold commitment theory. One of the main problems with the deviance regulation theory is that it focuses on one aspect of deviance, thus making it less generalizable. Deviance regulation theory can be compared to the personal commitment aspect of the threefold commitment theory as it only focuses on internal factors. Such as one s desire to commit a deviant act based on how it will positively impact them. Deviance regulation theory focuses on the desire to establish an identity through committing deviant acts. I believe deviance regulation theory only focuses on internal factors that influence deviant behaviour, which is only one aspect of deviance. Whereas the threefold commitment theory focuses on both internal and external influences of deviance, making the theory more generalizable to more people and contexts. Another problem with the deviance regulation theory is that it views deviant behaviour as a choice based on one s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

JANUARY 29, 2004 TEACHING NOTE op yo Arley Merchandise Corporation Objectives and Synopsis The Arley Merchandise Corporation represents an example of a corporate issuer attempting to realize a higher price for its common shares by offering potential investors a money back guarantee. In this instance, the guarantee takes the form of a European put option (called a Right in the case) which is exercisable two years from the date of issue. Thus, the value of the unit can be broken down in two ways: tC Market value of the unit = Market value of stock + market value of put option = Market value of zero coupon bond + market value of call option No Applying the Black Scholes model with a two year riskless rate of 11% per annum, an initial stock price of $6.50, and a volatility of 40% (as indicated in the assignment question), yields values of the put and call options of $1.44 and $1.45, respectively.1 Exhibit 4 shows historical volatility data for comparable firms. The instructor can engage the students in a discussion of how to use this information in the analysis. The Appendix to this teaching note contains a discussion of these comparables and sensitivity analysis. However, Black Scholes is not necessarily applicable because of default risk associated with this particular put option. That is, put option holders will wish to exercise their right to receive cash at precisely the time that Arley s stock is low, which is also when the firm will least be able to fund the $8

Investors who are interested in acquiring businesses would use the present value of money concept. Probably the main example of how the present value of money is applied in accounting is: a company wants to accumulate $100,000 in five years and they know there is an 8% interest that is compounded annually. A company would take that information and the present value of money concept to determine the amount of money they need to invest today. He is referred to as The Legend because he is one of the greatest, deadliest snipers and has killed dozens of people. American Sniper really shows the effect war has on a person and how Post Traumatic Stress Disorder changed his life. Throughout his four tours in war, Chris was exposed to actual and threatened death. Which is one of the requirements to have PTSD. A lot of those situations where he experienced the actual or threatened death were people he cared about deeply, which definitely impacted him. Not only that, but he had killed dozens of people as well so he witnessed it all in person and had a direct experience. The four categories of symptoms for PTSD are intrusion, avoidance, negative cognitions/mood, and arousal/reactivity. He clearly displayed symptoms in each of these four categories especially when he would return home to his family. There was a scene where Chris was sitting in a chair staring at a TV that was not on but there were sounds of constant gun shots and a helicopter. He was having an auditory hallucination, which falls under the category of intrusion. Another symptom Chris presented was avoidance. When his wife, Taya, asked him what he wanted to do that day, he did not want to leave the house. This was probably because he was avoiding any situation which could remind him of the traumatic events he had experienced. Although, that was not the only thing he avoided. Each time ... Earnestness is more often equated with sincerity. Sincerity or earnestness is not only displayed in the title but it is the main theme of Wilde s work and using satire, the playwright shows the hypocrisy of the morally upstanding, and the inability of the upper and middle class of Victorian England to be earnest. When one thinks of the Victorian English period, the word prudish might come to mind. According to Victorian era.org, the Victorian erais often thought of as a time when society and its rules were rigid and strict, and the values of the period ranged from honesty and a sense of duty to hard work and sexual propriety. In comparing the Victorian Era with The Importance of Being Earnest written in a religious England, we can see how Oscar Wilde s work regarding the insincerity of its characters came to be considered satirical. The main character John Jack Worthington is the best example of the Victorian sense of morality. Jack has a strong sense of duty towards his ward Cecily, his home and his servants, yet morally he is a reprehensible character. In creating his fictitious brother Ernest, Jack is able to make visits to the city in Ernest s place and lead a double life while his own persona s respectability remains intact. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the program and helped it grow. While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply. Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone involved, and not merely the needs of a few. Catholic School Leadership The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in my early years as a Catholic school teacher. Rape Culture And Rape Myths As kids we were taught about stranger danger; we were taught to protect ourselves from strangers and as we got older, females were told to protect themselves from getting raped. In this paper, I will discuss how living in a rape culture affects women and men, how does rape myths affect society and how we can change the negative effects of living in a rapeculture and rape myths. In order to understand this, we must first define what rape is. Rape is unwanted sexual attentions or actions that are directed to a person. Rape can happen to anyone but it is most common to happen women. Rape happens to women around the ages of 16 24 and it is considered to be at the greatest risk of sexual assault (Aronowitz, Lambert, Davidoff 2012). Also 1 in 5 American women survive rape or attempted rape (Maxwell 2014) and 1 in six men are abused before they reach the age of 18 (Maxwell 2014). Lastly, the victim is most likely to know or be related to their attacker (Aronwitz, Lambert, Davidoff 2012). As we can see from the data above, rape can happen to anyone, not just women. Though because everyone has this misconception that rape is only for women and that women wanted to be raped has created rape myths. Rape myths originate from a rape culture. A society only becomes a rape culture when rape is prevalent and in which sexual violence against women is normalized and excused in the media and popular culture ( Rape Culture, n.d.).
