The document provides information about STEM resources available from various government websites that can be integrated into K-12 curriculum. It begins with introductions and objectives for the presentation, which are to provide knowledge of educational offerings on government sites, give a vision for integrating the tools into current curriculum, and lower barriers to using cloud-based teaching tools. Several websites are then reviewed that contain free STEM resources for virtual field trips, labs, videos, and other materials. Ideas are shared for discussing how to integrate these sites into classroom lessons.
Creation, Transformation, Dissemination and Preservation: Advocating for Scho...NASIG
As the fight for research grants intensifies and the pot of money decreases, librarians need to ensure that the topic of scholarly communication remains on the forefront, regardless of funding. Affording researchers avenues to widely share and publish their work to make it widely available should be a mission both in the library and at the highest levels of the institution. How can libraries make an impact? In this presentation two librarians, a consortia officer and vendor, will discuss how consortia have and continue to play a primary role in advocating for dissemination of information and scholarly communication. Additionally, they will discuss other tools that libraries/researchers can use as a method of collaboration, whether regional or international, and why it is essential for libraries to become part of the solution before they are left out in the cold. Please come prepared to discuss how your library is making an impact on this topic.
Anne McKee
Program Officer for Resource Sharing, Greater Western Library Alliance
McKee received her M.L.S. from Indiana University, Bloomington and has had a very diverse career in librarianship. She has been an academic librarian, a sales rep for two subscription agencies and now a consortium officer for the past 13 years. A former President of NASIG, McKee is on the Serials Review Editorial Board, 3 publisher/vendor library advisory boards and strives to balance a busy career with an even busier family including a husband, 1 high schooler, 1 middle schooler, 2 dogs while being a first year newbie [and admittedly a rather bewildered] club volleyball mom: all this including wearing orthodontia! McKee is probably the only person you’ll meet with both an undergrad AND MLS in Library Science.

Research Networking to Enhance Multi-institutional Expertise Discovery and Co...Holly Falk-Krzesinski
Poster presented at the VIVO Conference 2014. Innovative interdisciplinary and multi-institutional portals to stimulate networking and collaboration across institutional and national boundaries. Research networking is facilitated through web-based expertise profiling systems—research networking tools (RN tools)—that aggregate research and scholarly information about faculty members and investigators to enable the rapid discovery and recommendation of experts to address new or existing research challenges and to facilitate new interdisciplinary collaborations. While most RN tool implementations focus on harvesting and displaying expertise from a single institution and across traditional academic organizational structures, this session will examine the flexibility of Elsevier’s Experts Portal to deliver innovative multi-institutional, cross-sector, and international semantic expertise portals in partnership with universities and other research institutions. These multi-institutional expertise portals are a key to stimulating networking and collaboration across typical research silos.

NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory Education, Public Engagement & Communication...Kim Arcand
The overarching goal of Chandra's multi-faceted education, public engagement and communications program (aka Education and Public Outreach, or EPO) is to provide open access and multiple opportunities to learn about the cutting-edge science results. Chandra EPO develops educational products and activities that share discoveries about the high-energy Universe in context with some of the largest questions being asked in physical sciences today. Our efforts are targeted at diverse audi-ences, engaging the imaginations of students, teachers and other audiences, and increasing learning opportunities. The starting point for all Chandra EPO is utilizing established working relationships with scientists. Once our products and activities are developed with expert input, we partner with or-ganizations such as the National Science Olympiad, the 4-H, the NASA Museum Alliance and the American Library Association, among others, to leverage external distribution networks for national impact. Enabling and sustaining a network of “volunpeers” empowered to organize science education events in their communities further strengthens the reach of educational science materials. We summa-rize a sample of our synthesized suite of programs in informal and formal education that communicate the compelling topics that the high-energy Universe can reveal, as well as provide an overview of the guiding research and specific evaluation results.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Editor's Notes
Whether you like the idea or not our student’s learning styles are changing with the advent of new technology. There is a greater reliance of collaboration, as seen in texting, and an increased desire to work in a digital environment. This makes a teacher’s professional life challenging since few have workable backgrounds in digital collaboration, and Districts have limited fiscal resources to supply the training. This is why web conferencing is a tool that can help teacher, district and student be competitive. Used widely by government agencies providing educational outreach, web conferencing tools are also being used by museums for virtual fieldtrips, and between colleagues for professional development. If you are interested in a review of the largest web conferencing companies, please see me after this presentation and I will give you a link to a powerpoint I created on the subject. As for the other topic here – the greatest challenge to integrating technology is not the resources by their ease of use and the ability to do simple searches. Some of the government agencies have taken this to heart and provided easy to find resources – other, not so much. But for the curriculum director and teacher there is also another site that provides reviewed sites geared to education - http://www.teachersfirst.com/update.cfm The next step is Wikis and Blogs – social media is a factor that we can either be afraid of in the classroom or embrace. Its new, a bit scary for some, and time consuming to learn and consider for projects. But as a formative assessment outlet – these can not be best. Especially since the major players all have educational divisions which isolate students from the general population, giving a secure environment for classroom integration. If you are interested in this subject I have a powerpoint developed by a colleagues that may help provide insight into the tools.
FREE makes it easier to find teaching and learning resources from the federal government. More than 1,500 federally supported teaching and learning resources are included from dozens of federal agencies. New sites are added regularly. FREE was conceived in 1997 by a federal working group in response to a memo from the President . The site was launched a year later. It was redesigned and relaunched for the first time in November 2006. Use the pictures on this site as links to programs found on FREE.
The content for Science.gov is contributed by participating agencies committed to serving the information needs of the science-attentive citizen, including science professionals, students and teachers, and the business community. Many of these agencies are members of CENDI , which provides administrative support and coordination for Science.gov. Science.gov and the Science.gov Alliance were formed in response to the April 2001 workshop , "Strengthening the Public Information Infrastructure for Science." The Web page search function is provided by the U.S. Geological Survey ( USGS ), and the "Explore Selected Science Websites by Topic" portion of the site is maintained by the CENDI Secretariat. The Science.gov Website is hosted by the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) , located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which also supplies the site's " deep Web search " capability.
NASA’s journeys into air and space have deepened humankind’s understanding of the universe, advanced technology breakthroughs, enhanced air travel safety and security, and expanded the frontiers of scientific research. These accomplishments share a common genesis: education. As the United States begins the second century of flight, the Nation must maintain its commitment to excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education to ensure that the next generation of Americans can accept the full measure of their roles and responsibilities in shaping the future. NASA will continue the Agency’s tradition of investing in the Nation’s education programs and supporting the country’s educators who play a key role in preparing, inspiring, exciting, encouraging, and nurturing the young minds of today who will be the workforce of tomorrow. In 2006 and beyond, NASA will continue to pursue three major education goals: -- Strengthening NASA and the Nation's future workforce -- Attracting and retaining students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, disciplines -- Engaging Americans in NASA's mission
The America COMPETES Act (P.L. 110-69) gives NOAA broad authority for educational activities. Stemming from this statute and other program-specific education mandates, the NOAA education community works collaboratively to advance the priorities outlined in NOAA's Education Strategic Plan and meet NOAA's Education Mission: "To advance environmental literacy and promote a diverse workforce in ocean, coastal, Great Lakes, weather, and climate sciences, encouraging stewardship and increasing informed decision making for the nation." This strategic direction is leveraged by the many cross-cutting education programs and initiatives (highlighted below) across NOAA.
