3. Background
• The project named as ‘ TO CARRY OUT MAINTENANCE AND
FIND OUT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE STEAM POWER
PLANT’ a path is chosen to implement our innovative ideas to form
this project.
• The basic concept which is emerged out from the project is to handle the
power plant with safety.
• The another purpose behind the project is to understand the whole
operating and working operation of the power plant.

5. Introduction
• Steam Power plant Specification
• Inspection Of the Components
• Condition of the power plant
• Task completed

7. Working
• Water coming from the inlet water tank is directly supplied to the boiler
through feed pump.
• Economizer is provided next to the boiler to increase the temperature of the
inlet water.
• Water is converted into the steam in the boiler then it is supplied to the
turbine through steam pipe.
• Nozzle is provided at inlet of the turbine to convert the pressure energy of
the steam into kinetic energy.
7
8. Working
• Turbine uses the kinetic energy and convert it into the mechanical
energy and further it is converted into the electrical energy as per the
application.
• Steam from the turbine is supplied to the condenser to convert steam
into the liquid state by using cooling water coming from the condenser
tank.
• A water softener is provided before the inlet water tank for the filtration
process.

19. Water-tube Boilers
• In a water-tube boiler, the water is inside
the tubes and combustion gases pass
around the outside of the tubes.
• The advantages of a water-tube boiler are
a lower unit weight-per-pound of steam
generated, less time required to raise
steam pressure, a greater flexibility for
responding to load changes, and a greater
ability to operate at high rates of steam
generation
19
20. Water-tube Boilers
Advantages
• Are available in sizes far greater than a fire-
tube design , up to several million pounds-
per-hour of steam
• Are able to handle higher pressures up to
5,000 psig
• Recover faster than their fire-tube cousin
• Have the ability to reach very high
temperatures
Disadvantages
• High initial capital cost
• Cleaning is more difficult due to the design
• No commonality between tubes
• Physical size may be an issue
20
21. Steam Turbines
• Steam turbine is a single stage De Laval type turbine steam. From the
boiler is expanded down to the existing backpressure in a nozzle. The
resulting high velocity steam jet enter one side of the bucket and exits on
the other side. Due to the change in the directions of the steam jet, a change
in the momentum and hence a tangential force due to the steam jet imparts
a torque on the wheel and to the output.
21
22. Condenser
• A condenser is a device used to
condense a substance from its gaseous
to its liquid state by cooling it.
• vacuum is created due to steam /
condensate volume difference.
• vacuum is maintained by constant cool
water circulation through the tubes.
