According to a 2009 report from the Health and Social Care Information Centre, there has been an overall decrease in drug use reported by 11-15 year olds in England since 2001. Cannabis was the most widely used drug among this age group in 2008, though its use has also decreased over time. Pupils who had truanted or been excluded from school were more likely to report regular drug use than those who had not. The report also presented statistics on drug misuse outcomes for those under age 16, such as hospital admissions for mental health or behavioral disorders due to drugs and admissions for drug poisonings.

The survey questioned 7,296 pupils aged 11 to 15 from 246 schools in England about their drug use. Only 0.2% of pupils reported taking the fictional drug "Semeron", supporting the view that most pupils do not exaggerate drug use in surveys. The results also showed rates of cannabis and Class A drug use in the last year, drugs used by age, frequency of drug use, effects of truancy on Class A drug use, being offered drugs, sources of drug education, and receiving drug education that year.

Dr. Stacey Sigmon and her colleagues at the University of Vermont have developed a new interim treatment for opioid addiction that can help patients awaiting comprehensive treatment. The interim treatment involves dispensing buprenorphine, a medication approved for opioid addiction treatment, through an electronic dispenser that provides a single daily dose. A 12-week trial showed this interim treatment helped waitlisted opioid dependent participants experience abstinence from illicit drug use while awaiting intensive care treatment.

In 2016/17, around 8.5% of adults aged 16-59 had taken an illicit drug in the last year. The percentage of school pupils reporting ever taking drugs increased from 15% in 2014 to 24% in 2016, with older pupils more likely to have taken drugs.

FY 2010 Annual Report-Tobacco Prevention and Control Program
The Tobacco Prevention and Control Program protects Utah citizens from tobacco and promotes smoking cessation. Some key accomplishments in 2010 include:
1) Nearly 11,000 Utahns used cessation services funded by TPCP and quit rates increased.
2) Youth smoking rates declined to less than half the national average.
3) Secondhand smoke exposure dropped as more workplaces, housing, and vehicles adopted smoke-free policies.
4) Outreach improved to low-income and minority groups with higher smoking rates.

EU Youth’s Attitudes to Drugs
A survey of over 12,000 15-24 year olds across the EU found that three quarters had never used cannabis, though 57% thought it was easy to obtain within 24 hours. 5% had used new psychoactive substances, mostly gotten from friends. Youth cited the internet and peers as top information sources on drugs. Over 90% saw regular cocaine or ecstasy use as highly risky to health. Over half thought cannabis and alcohol regular use also very risky. Over 90% wanted heroin, cocaine and ecstasy to remain banned.
