Singapore faced several challenges as a newly independent state that are common to other newly independent nations. It had limited natural resources and a small land area. It also had to deal with issues of developing the economy, ensuring stability, and building a common identity and unity among its diverse racial groups. Singapore overcame these challenges through pragmatic policies focused on meeting citizens' basic needs, maintaining independence, promoting racial harmony, and developing the economy despite its constraints.

Scott Harrison founded the non-profit charity:water after seeing the harsh living conditions and lack of clean water in Liberia. Jacqueline Novogratz started the Acumen Fund after becoming motivated to help the poor from seeing the impact of donations and their plight; the Acumen Fund invests in ventures that improve lives and pull people out of poverty. Both entrepreneurs faced challenges in giving up lucrative careers to start new social ventures to help communities in need.
Status quo will not solve our problems
There are more problems that we face today than before, following status quo or thinking that billionaires and their foundations will save us is simply a dream that has not been realized and will never be.
Poverty is a complex problems and will not be solved if we let the governments and the rich address it while we watch and send thoughts and prayers.
If status quo does not solve problems, perhaps we need to all try to do our part and look for solutions, try for our local community. It take effort and courage to bring about change.

Over 3 million people live on less than $2.50 a day, while the richest 20% of the world accounts for 75% of global income. Jake Harriman founded Nuru International in 2008 to fight extreme poverty after realizing it contributed to terrorism during his time in the Marines. Nuru addresses hunger, financial instability, disease and lack of education in rural Kenya and Ethiopia by equipping local communities with skills and resources.

With the media circus buzzing around Kony2012, Invisible Children, and the LRA – I created a (fairly) student-friendly powerpoint that objectively explains the background of Kony and the LRA. I am not getting into the hype surrounding supporters and opponents of Invisible Children, but have included them as well as other organizations at the end of the presentation to give students options regarding how to get involved.
No matter what people feel about Invisible Children, it’s obvious that they have created a successful awareness raising campaign. My students have had a lot of questions about the whole situation, so I created this powerpoint that I am now sharing with you.

As a teenager, experiences visiting slums in the Philippines and India inspired him to take action. Global Citizen is an advocacy organization that has attained over $37 million in commitments from world leaders to impact the lives of over 2.25 billion people by 2030. Evans was determined to make a difference and end extreme poverty after witnessing the harsh conditions many live in around the world as a teenager.

3. Design projects and activities for students to practice values. This could include community service learning, civil discourse, role playing ethical dilemmas, and analyzing events from different perspectives.

In these slides, we discuss how LinkedIn implements a powerful dynamic policy enforcement engine, called ViewShift, and integrates it within its data lake. We show the query engine architecture and how catalog implementations can automatically route table resolutions to compliance-enforcing SQL views. Such views have a set of very interesting properties: (1) They are auto-generated from declarative data annotations. (2) They respect user-level consent and preferences (3) They are context-aware, encoding a different set of transformations for different use cases (4) They are portable; while the SQL logic is only implemented in one SQL dialect, it is accessible in all engines.

Global Situational Awareness of A.I. and where its headed
You can see the future first in San Francisco.
Over the past year, the talk of the town has shifted from $10 billion compute clusters to $100 billion clusters to trillion-dollar clusters. Every six months another zero is added to the boardroom plans. Behind the scenes, there’s a fierce scramble to secure every power contract still available for the rest of the decade, every voltage transformer that can possibly be procured. American big business is gearing up to pour trillions of dollars into a long-unseen mobilization of American industrial might. By the end of the decade, American electricity production will have grown tens of percent; from the shale fields of Pennsylvania to the solar farms of Nevada, hundreds of millions of GPUs will hum.
The AGI race has begun. We are building machines that can think and reason. By 2025/26, these machines will outpace college graduates. By the end of the decade, they will be smarter than you or I; we will have superintelligence, in the true sense of the word. Along the way, national security forces not seen in half a century will be un-leashed, and before long, The Project will be on. If we’re lucky, we’ll be in an all-out race with the CCP; if we’re unlucky, an all-out war.
Everyone is now talking about AI, but few have the faintest glimmer of what is about to hit them. Nvidia analysts still think 2024 might be close to the peak. Mainstream pundits are stuck on the wilful blindness of “it’s just predicting the next word”. They see only hype and business-as-usual; at most they entertain another internet-scale technological change.
Before long, the world will wake up. But right now, there are perhaps a few hundred people, most of them in San Francisco and the AI labs, that have situational awareness. Through whatever peculiar forces of fate, I have found myself amongst them. A few years ago, these people were derided as crazy—but they trusted the trendlines, which allowed them to correctly predict the AI advances of the past few years. Whether these people are also right about the next few years remains to be seen. But these are very smart people—the smartest people I have ever met—and they are the ones building this technology. Perhaps they will be an odd footnote in history, or perhaps they will go down in history like Szilard and Oppenheimer and Teller. If they are seeing the future even close to correctly, we are in for a wild ride.
