TASK 1 Read this version of the Red Riding Hood
using Jon Scieszka as a scaffold
The True Story of Red Riding Hood inspired by Jon Scieszka
Everybody knows the story of that annoying little
brat Red Riding Hood.
Or at least they think they do. But I’ll let you in on a
little secret. Nobody knows the real story, because nobody has
ever heard my side of the story.
I’m the wolf. Alexander T. Wolf. You can call me Al. I don’t
know how this whole Big Bad Wolf thing got started, but it’s all
wrong. The real story is about a robbery, a mobile phone and a
lovely old friend of mine who was the real victim!
Way back in Once Upon a Time one bright morning
I heard a terrible argument coming from one of the family
houses on the edge of the woods, I could just see the face of a
young girl through the kitchen window, shouting at someone
else in the house.
“But it’s not fair, all my friends have got one, I want
one and I am going to get it and you cant stop me!”
That insolent child was shouting very disrespectfully, I decided
it was not any of my business, and moved swiftly away. I
carried on wandering through my local woodland, admiring
the spring bluebells and collecting litter that some
inconsiderate people had dropped in the woods – I do like to
help my community!
A while later whilst I was wandering, I overheard two
voices, one of them quite familiar. “I told you, she’s loaded, she
has money hidden all over her house, I will get it.”
“If you want the 12 model, it’s gonna cost you, £950
is my cheapest deal, I’ve only got one left, if you want it, meet
me at the end of this path in an hour and I’ll have it unlocked for
you.”
“£950! I can get you £800 and some jewellery you
can sell. How does that sound?”
“Deal!”
Hmm, this did not sound too good to me, where
would a young girl get £800 and jewellery to sell?
So of course, being an upstanding member of the
community, I decided to investigate, and wandered a little closer
– there hiding her face under a huge red cloak was that naughty
brat I’d heard shouting earlier talking to Jack Woodcutter, the
young man who I’ve heard sells stolen mobile phones. My
suspicions were aroused, but back to litter picking I went.
And you know what? Not ten minutes later that little
brat was wandering through my patch again, hiding her face
under a red cloak and sauntering along the path that lead to my
dear old friends house. This did not look good to me, I tried to
get closer, to spy. What was she was carrying in the little basket
she clutched under her arm?
Tuesday 16th June 2020
“Good to see you, young lady and how are you
this fine morning?
“That’s none of your business, get out of my
way and off this path.” she pulled her hood even closer,
covering her face even more, she clearly did not want to
be recognised, a little suspicious don’t you think?
“Ah, I see you are travelling along the path to
Gran-Grans, she is a very good friend of mine are you
visiting her today?”
“Just get out of my way and clear off.” as he
shouted this, she pulled her basket closer to her, but
knocked it against her hip. I managed to see the contents
as the basket tipped onto the floor – pliers, a hammer, a
small bag and what looked like crowbar – all items that
someone planning a break-in would have!
This could only mean ONE thing, that offensive
little brat was planning to rob my friend Gran-gran. Oh no,
not when I’m around, I had to act quickly…
Quick as a flash I dashed through the woods,
leaving the girl to continue on the path, I had to get to the
house before her, but disaster struck; I was caught in
brambles. Eventually I got through and made my way to
Gran-Grans, but too late.
In the distance, I saw, moving through back window
that she had prised open, the legs and feet of the hooded thief.
How was I going to stop her? My poor Gran-gran was
about to be robbed!
With all my strength I sprinted to the house, flew
through the door and was faced with: GRAN-GRAN TIED TO A
CHAIR.
Suddenly the cloaked thief rushed past me; clutching a
wad of money and a diamond necklace!
“Noooo”
I knew where she was going, and I knew exactly what
she was going to get!
Would those darn officers listen to me?
Would they find that treacherous little child in
possession of a phone her mother didn’t want her to have?
Would they see Jack Woodcutter leaving the woods?
No, they wouldn’t, they weren't going to listen to me, it
was easy to blame me!
But I know the truth and you do too. Oh, please help
me and sign a petition for my release, and catch the true criminal.
TASK 2
Write the differences between the original and altered version of
the two Red Riding Hood versions
Plan to create your own Red Riding Hood version
Original paragraphs or
events
Changes in the altered version
Red Riding hood sets off to
visit Granny
She meets a wolf in the
woods
The wolf gets to Granny’s
house, eats her and
disguises himself as her
Red riding hood realises
when she questions the
wolf, its not her Granny
The woodcutter kills the
wolf
If you are confident with your own plan for Jack and the Beanstalk or Red Riding Hood, go ahead and write your own version of one of
the stories, remember to use paragraphing and develop your sentence structure.
ENJOY being creative!
Don’t upload yes, there will be some revising and editing of you work before you upload

  • 2. TASK 1 Read this version of the Red Riding Hood using Jon Scieszka as a scaffold The True Story of Red Riding Hood inspired by Jon Scieszka Everybody knows the story of that annoying little brat Red Riding Hood. Or at least they think they do. But I’ll let you in on a little secret. Nobody knows the real story, because nobody has ever heard my side of the story. I’m the wolf. Alexander T. Wolf. You can call me Al. I don’t know how this whole Big Bad Wolf thing got started, but it’s all wrong. The real story is about a robbery, a mobile phone and a lovely old friend of mine who was the real victim! Way back in Once Upon a Time one bright morning I heard a terrible argument coming from one of the family houses on the edge of the woods, I could just see the face of a young girl through the kitchen window, shouting at someone else in the house. “But it’s not fair, all my friends have got one, I want one and I am going to get it and you cant stop me!” That insolent child was shouting very disrespectfully, I decided it was not any of my business, and moved swiftly away. I carried on wandering through my local woodland, admiring the spring bluebells and collecting litter that some inconsiderate people had dropped in the woods – I do like to help my community! A while later whilst I was wandering, I overheard two voices, one of them quite familiar. “I told you, she’s loaded, she has money hidden all over her house, I will get it.” “If you want the 12 model, it’s gonna cost you, £950 is my cheapest deal, I’ve only got one left, if you want it, meet me at the end of this path in an hour and I’ll have it unlocked for you.” “£950! I can get you £800 and some jewellery you can sell. How does that sound?” “Deal!” Hmm, this did not sound too good to me, where would a young girl get £800 and jewellery to sell? So of course, being an upstanding member of the community, I decided to investigate, and wandered a little closer – there hiding her face under a huge red cloak was that naughty brat I’d heard shouting earlier talking to Jack Woodcutter, the young man who I’ve heard sells stolen mobile phones. My suspicions were aroused, but back to litter picking I went. And you know what? Not ten minutes later that little brat was wandering through my patch again, hiding her face under a red cloak and sauntering along the path that lead to my dear old friends house. This did not look good to me, I tried to get closer, to spy. What was she was carrying in the little basket she clutched under her arm? Tuesday 16th June 2020
  • 3. “Good to see you, young lady and how are you this fine morning? “That’s none of your business, get out of my way and off this path.” she pulled her hood even closer, covering her face even more, she clearly did not want to be recognised, a little suspicious don’t you think? “Ah, I see you are travelling along the path to Gran-Grans, she is a very good friend of mine are you visiting her today?” “Just get out of my way and clear off.” as he shouted this, she pulled her basket closer to her, but knocked it against her hip. I managed to see the contents as the basket tipped onto the floor – pliers, a hammer, a small bag and what looked like crowbar – all items that someone planning a break-in would have! This could only mean ONE thing, that offensive little brat was planning to rob my friend Gran-gran. Oh no, not when I’m around, I had to act quickly… Quick as a flash I dashed through the woods, leaving the girl to continue on the path, I had to get to the house before her, but disaster struck; I was caught in brambles. Eventually I got through and made my way to Gran-Grans, but too late. In the distance, I saw, moving through back window that she had prised open, the legs and feet of the hooded thief. How was I going to stop her? My poor Gran-gran was about to be robbed! With all my strength I sprinted to the house, flew through the door and was faced with: GRAN-GRAN TIED TO A CHAIR. Suddenly the cloaked thief rushed past me; clutching a wad of money and a diamond necklace! “Noooo” I knew where she was going, and I knew exactly what she was going to get! Would those darn officers listen to me? Would they find that treacherous little child in possession of a phone her mother didn’t want her to have? Would they see Jack Woodcutter leaving the woods? No, they wouldn’t, they weren't going to listen to me, it was easy to blame me! But I know the truth and you do too. Oh, please help me and sign a petition for my release, and catch the true criminal. TASK 2 Write the differences between the original and altered version of the two Red Riding Hood versions
  • 4. Plan to create your own Red Riding Hood version Original paragraphs or events Changes in the altered version Red Riding hood sets off to visit Granny She meets a wolf in the woods The wolf gets to Granny’s house, eats her and disguises himself as her Red riding hood realises when she questions the wolf, its not her Granny The woodcutter kills the wolf If you are confident with your own plan for Jack and the Beanstalk or Red Riding Hood, go ahead and write your own version of one of the stories, remember to use paragraphing and develop your sentence structure. ENJOY being creative! Don’t upload yes, there will be some revising and editing of you work before you upload
