The document describes the design of an online orientation for adult learners in SUNY Empire State College's RN to BSN nursing program. It provides an overview of the nursing program, which began in 2008 and currently has 860 students ranging from age 20 to 70. The orientation was developed to introduce newly enrolled nursing students to online learning and available supports. Project stakeholders including the dean, support staff, intern, and faculty were involved in gathering and selecting orientation content. The orientation features engaging activities and ease of navigation for students. Challenges included information being scattered and determining what content to include.
"This Place is Awesome!": Service, Planning and Program at the Center for Sci...Kelly Barrick
This presentation describes the planning and services of a hybrid library and Yale IT enterprise. Presented with Themba Flowers, Co-Director of the Center for Science and Social Science Information, Yale University at the 2013 Nercomp Conference.
This presentation was provided by Keren Stiles and Caroline Barratt of The Open University, during Session Six of the NISO training series "Assessment Practices and Metrics in a 21st Century Pandemic," held on October 23, 2020.
Open Educational Resources: Impact, Evidence & NarrativeOER Hub
This session critically evaluates attempts that have been made to support communication and collaboration through ‘mapping’ OER focussing on The Open Learning Network (OLnet) Evidence Hub which used the concept of ‘Contested Collective Intelligence’ and The UNESCO OER Mapping Project which set out some quite specific protocols for metadata.
There will be a demonstration of the new Evidence Hub being developed as part of the OER Research Hub (OERRH) project. This hub is designed to overcome some of the issues that manifested themselves in these earlier projects, a range of different data sources, the importance of data visualization, and account for how different types of evidence might be flexibly accommodated.
There will be an opportunity for delegates to discuss the idea of ‘mapping’ the OER evidence base and what the OER community might want from such services.

Aoide covers a new method in browsing materials that helps users to explore other similar materials. By creating a separate interface, Aoide focuses specifically on the explore and information visualization component. Also, users who uses this system will be able to collect different sorts of data and can make decisions that the MLibrary interface does not offer. This includes the ability to compare similar genre of artists or album in relationship to other artists by genre. Users will also be able to save browsing history for future use. This is designed, because users often compare and contrast information before making the ultimate decision to check out an item. Therefore, browsing history is a major component in our design. Furthermore, the ultimate objective is for users to build their own browsing history that invites them to come back, therefore increasing a higher use of the MLibrary. We entered this design into the iDesign competition for the University of Michigan.

After attending The Flooring Show on 1st-3rd September 2013), we looked back through our Case Studies to pick out the most exciting (flooring) projects to date.
For a lot of our clients, flooring is not their first thought when it comes to injecting creativity and colour into their space, but the stand-out projects are ones which use bright colours, unusual shapes, or contrasting materials to delineate specific areas.
We hope that next year we can update this presentation with a lot more exciting images.

C. G. O’Kelly Library’s OK Scholar’s Institute
Mae Rodney, Winston Salem State University
C. G. O’Kelly Library has a rich collection of print and electronic resources but traditional library output measures – questions asked, use of databases – declined despite an increase in instruction sessions offered.
The Internet gave patrons immediate fulfillment of their search requests; cutting and pasting information was effortless; so the Internet became students’ primary research tool. Informal assessments of students’ written papers confirmed the habit of cutting and pasting and not citing sources. Faculty members complained more about the quality of students’ final papers. To counter students’ reliance on the Internet, many faculty members’ assignments directed students not to use any Internet resources. This did not correct the problem! Faculty members remained unhappy with the quality of students’ papers.
Librarians wanted to teach students information literacy skills to help them locate, evaluate and use information. To achieve that goal, faculty members required more information about library services and collections along with techniques to develop quality library assignments.
A request was made for Title III funds to sponsor annual workshops for five years to help faculty members develop techniques to create assignments that require students to locate, use and evaluate library resources to complete their written assignments.
The O’K Fellows experience is positively impacting library services – the contact between students and librarians has increased by over 100 percent and the number of electronic searches completed rose by 300 percent during 2007-08. Instruction sessions offered in Fall 2008 already equal the total number for the entire 2006-07 academic year. Faculty members are recommending the institute to other faculty members.

How the University of Maryland Implemented a Campus-Wide IT Accessibility Plan3Play Media
In 2015, the University of Maryland created a 3-year IT Accessibility Plan focused on improving and (re)designing on-campus technologies. Specifically, they focused on web accessibility, course (re)design, multimedia development, eLearning tools, and assistive technology tools. This plan was created and implemented by the university's Division of IT, with recommendations from the campus' IT Accessibility Committee, a group comprised of individuals from across campus.
In this webinar, Ana Palla-Kane (IT Accessibility Specialist) and Susan Johnston (Instructional Designer) will dive into the design and implementation of their IT accessibility plan, providing an inside look into the university’s own strategies and structure. They will discuss the specific steps taken by the Division of IT in designing and implementing the plan, as well as provide insight into first-year successes and challenges.
Topics will include:
How to design an IT accessibility plan
Steps in implementing an IT accessibility plan
Successes and challenges faced after the first year implementing a campus-wide IT accessibility plan
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
