Opechancanough was the proud chief of warriors who led a ten year war against Europeans to fight for the freedom of his people before they retreated, hurting his culture's pride and status. He died with dignity and purpose. Squanto was taken from his village to Europe against his will and tried to be sold as a slave before being bought by friars who taught him Christianity. When he returned home, he found his entire village dead or gone, yet he still helped and acknowledged the English ways despite how badly they treated him, showing his patience and respect. Red Shoes attempted to help the French and Europeans while also struggling to create peace between them. After his murder, the foreigners honored
