What they done

• The martyrs swore an illegal oath on the bible in
order to earn more money to feed their families and
to survive from dying of starvation.

• The group had secret meetings in their houses so that
 they could plot their rebellion.

• They protested on their rights to be able to have a fair
 wage.
What happened?
• Once the government had found out the
  Tolpuddle Martyrs' plans, they had
  them arrested.

• After they were arrested they were sent
to court where they were pleaded guilty.

• As their punishment, they were
transported on a brutal battleship to
  Australia.

• Only very few survived the cruel
sentence, many die on the journey, but
many also die in the menacing slavery
  in Australia.

The Martyrs Legacy
• During imprisonment George
  Loveless had inscribed the words,
"We raise the watchword, liberty. We
  will, we will be free!"

• These words serve as an inspiration to
people who fight against injustice and
  oppression.

• They formed a trade union and are
one of the first people who protested
  for their rights.

• This is the Legacy of The Tolpuddle
  Martyrs.
