1. Introduction.
Whoever said money can’t buy happiness simply
didn’t know where to go shopping.
Bo Derek
- Hello, girls and boys! Nice to meet you. How are you today? Hope you’re fine
and ready to work. Let’s start. The theme of our lesson “ Shop Till You Drop”.
And I’d like to start with the best quotation about shopping I’ve ever heard :
“ Whoever said money can’t buy happiness simply didn’t know where to go
shopping.”
- What sayings or proverbs do you know about shops or shopping?
- So, I want to invite you to the wonderful world of shopping. Today we’ll discover
the most fascinating shopping centers and places. We’ll learn how to shop in
different countries and buy a lot of wonderful souvenirs for you and your friends.
So, let’s start travelling around the world.
( watch a short video of our planet)
- Oh! Sorry! I’ve almost forgotten about one very important thing. We can’t travel
without a good guide book. I’ve got one but it’s not perfect. The words are mixed
up and it’s hard to understand where to go and what places to visit. But I hope
you’ll help me to complete this book.
2. Vocabulary practice.
- Let’ watch a video and name the first shopping city.
( watch a video about Paris )
- Let’s complete our guide book with the words connected to Paris. Find this words
and tell some items or facts you know connected to them.
( shopper’s paradise, delightful shops, Bonaparte and Jacob Street,
Galleries Lafayette, the Mara’s big bank accounts, big sales, the chance, pocket
and taste )
- At first we’ll enter a French shop to get involved into the atmosphere of the real
French shopping.
( a dialogue in the French boutique . In French )
- You’ve said that there are a lot of different shops in Paris. Let’s name them and
say what one can get there. Look at the example and do it in a chain.
Example: - Look, Ann. This is a baker’s what can we buy there?
-We can buy some bread at the baker’s.
3. Listening.
- You know that some people had already gone shopping. Let’s listen to their
conversation and match their names to the shops they’ve visited already.
Paula Sports Heaven
Sally Designer Fashion
Martina The Book Worm
Fred Perfume Paradise
Ann The Shoe Warehouse
Bill Jewel Personality
The Coffee Bean
- We know that French women like buying very interesting and colorful things. Two
ladies have bought a lot of presents. But they won’t give them to you until you
guess what they are.
- Look at the screen and try to remember all of them. Each of you receives an
envelope with a list of adjectives on it and a present in it. Your task is to describe
your present. If you do it correct and your classmates guess what it is, you can
open the envelope.
Example: it is a beautiful, heavy, rectangular, blue, leather object. We usually sit
in it. ( it’s a sofa)
- Let’s travel to another country. Watch the video and name the city.
( watch the video of London )
- Let’s complete our guide book.
( doormat, celebrated, Charles Harrod, survive, 300 departments, Green Men,
heart and soul, busy months, motto, British quality )
- To make our visit to London more interesting< let’s watch a short dialogue in the
shopping center in London.
( dialogue in London shop )
4. Grammar practice
- You know that the goods we buy are not the same. Some of them are more
beautiful, some are less comfortable, some are less comfortable. Some are nice,
the others are worse and even the worst in the world.
- We usually use different degrees of comparison to talk about different things.
let’s remind how we form them.
- -look at the screen, open the brackets and put the adjectives in the right grammar
form.
That was _____(bad) shop of all
Your car is_________(expensive) mine.
This shop sells _________( good ) chocolates in the city.
What is___________( dig ) department store in your city?
The red dress is ________( attractive ) the blue dress.
My earrings are ________( cheap ) of all.
5. Reading.
- There are some other big shops in Britain. Let’s read about one of them. You
have one minute to open the brackets. Then read and answer the questions.
1. What does Mark and Spencer sell?
2. Whom is it run by?
3. What is the motto of the shop?
- Imagine that you have lost your suitcase in the airport of London. Where would
you go? What would you do?
- We’ll work in two groups. You’ll receive a picture of the suitcase and some stuff
in it. Write the letter to the Lost Property Office.
- The last but not the least city we are going to is….. let’s watch a video and name
the country.
( watch the video of Kyiv )
- Let’s complete our guide book.
( picturesque, adore, charming atmosphere, Central Department Store,
Bessarabian Square, Besarabian Market, the range of goods, impressive
atmosphere )
6. Speaking. Pair work.
- Imagine that you are at the Bessarabian Market. You want to buy something.
We’ll work in pairs. Make up the short dialogues according to the pictures you;ll
receive.
7. Summing up.
- Let’s remind what we have done today.
- What city would you like to go shopping to and why?
- What activities were the most interesting for you today?
- What activities were the most useful for you today?
