Thanksgiving Day
Objectives: to widen pupils knowledgeabout traditions and customs in
foreign countries
to develop speaking skills
to reveal feeling of love and respectto our Motherland
equipment: pictures of the symbols of the holiday, flash cards, tree,
leaves made of paper
Procedure
1. Introduction
T. Dear teachers, pupils and guests, you are welcome to our
party.
We have gathered to celebrate one beautiful holiday. Itis a
very special day in America. Today people can tell '' Thank you''
2. for everything they havein their lives.
Will you help me to introduce the theme of our party?
( Pupils receive a cards with the letters. They have to composethe phrase:
''Thanksgiving
Day'' and put it on the blackboard)
T. You are right. We are going to celebrate Thanksgiving Day today
And whatcelebration goes without family dinner? Now you must
help me to decorate festive table.
( Pupils choosethe thing which should be on the festivetable , name them and
explain why .)
T. Thanksgiving traditions are someof the oldest traditions in American
life. They haven'tchanged through the years. Every lastThursday in
November all the family get together to sharespecial meal and give
thanks to the Lord for their family, friends, home and food.

G.(girl)1-Do you know how itall began?
G.2- No, I don't. But I d'like to know.
G.1- Don't worry . It's nota problem. Let's travel in time and find out
someinformation about Thanksgiving Day.
G.2- Wow. That's interesting. But how can we do it?
G.1- Do you see this sheep? Itis magic. It's something between
the Time Machine and the Lamp of Alladin .Let's rub this sheep
and go in December 1621.
4. (The pilgrims appear)
G.1- Look at these people. They look so tired.
G.2- Let's ask them who they are and what happened to them.
G.1- Who are you? What happened to you?
Pilgrim1- We are Pilgrims. We went to Americafrom Plymouth,
England, in September, 1620.
Pilgrim2- We wanted to separate fromthe Church of England.
Pilgrim3- We had a long travel, a lot of people and sailors died
from illnesses. After a difficult time in the see our sheep
''Mayflower''came to land. We landed at Plymouth Rock
in December, 1620.
Pilgrim4- Our firstwinter in the New World was difficult. We had
come too late to grow many crops. We had no food
and many people died.
G.1- But how did you manage to survive?
Pilgrim1- The Native American Indians helped us a lot.
Pilgrim2- By the way, herethey are coming . Meet them. Ask them
to tell you abouttheir traditions. They are very friendly.
G.2- Pleased to meet you. Indians, tell us about your tribes and
traditions.
Indian1- Our tribelives in small earth houses. We eat only grass,
nuts and fruit.
Indian2- And our tribe lives in wooden houses. Weare fishermen.
5. Indian1- Welive happily with nature and each other.
Indian2- Webelieve in many gods and our gods live in trees,
stones,water and fire. They help us in hunting, farming
and fishing.
Indian1- Wehave a very interesting tradition in our tribe. Itis
Smoking of a peace pipe together with people we don't
know. Itmeans friendship and peace. So, let's smoke
and our little Indians will dancefor you.

very thanksfuland decided to celebrate.
Pilgrim2- We prepared the dinner of turkey, corn, beans and
melons.
6. Pilgrim3- We invited the Indians and they broughtfish, deer and
corn.
Pilgrim4- For three days wegave thanks for aur good harvestand
happy year.
G.2- I think, it's time for us to come back home.
G.1- You are right. It's a pity, but we have to go. Let's sumup
everything we know aboutThanksgiving Day.
