This document provides information about a master class on the interactive multimedia application "Across Cultures" that introduces students to the cultures of Britain and Russia. It discusses how modern teachers use multimedia tools and how students today are digital natives. It also outlines some of the superstitions and traditions related to luck and fortune in Britain, such as Friday the 13th being unlucky, black cats bringing good luck, and ways to avoid or undo bad luck like not opening umbrellas indoors or throwing spilled salt over your shoulder.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

18. Friday the 13th is unlucky in
Britain because it comes after 12
– a very lucky number. A lot of
buildings don’t have
13th floor and some aeroplanes
don’t have seats with number 13!
Black cats in Britain bring good
luck. Maybe because of it cats
are the most popular pets in
British families.
To see a black cat means good luck
in Britain. In some countries like
Russia cats bring bad luck.
19. Wait in queues. British people get very
angry when people ‘jump’ queues!
Always say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’
when you ask for and receive things.
Don’t ask personal questions like ‘How much money
do you earn?’ or ‘How old are you?”
Don’t open your umbrella when you come
to visit your British friends because British
people believe that it brings bad luck.
20. A broken mirror brings you bad luck for seven years. Take it out of
the house and don’t look at it.
Touching wood doesn’t bring good luck but it stops bad luck. British
people do it when they talk about good things. For example you
say, “I’m doing well today, touch wood”.
A rabbit’s foot brings good luck
but it’s not very lucky for the
rabbit!
British people believe that spilling salt can bring
them bad luck. To stop the bad luck, they usually
throw some of it over their left shoulder and
sometimes make a wish.
