The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

13. Maya: Hi Kieran! How was your cycling trip?
Kieran: Great, Maya. Thanks for the bike - a pity yours was too small,
but your dad said your brother never rides his, so I had that.
Maya: Good! Who went with you? Did Paul go?
Kieran: His bike was broken so Theo came instead and brought his
cousin, Max..
Maya: How far did you go?
Kieran: We stayed by the lake - we couldn't get all the way to the
forest. But we had a great view of the mountains!
14. Maya: So did you remember everything you needed?
Kieran: We'd got lots of water - that was important. But my mobile wasn't
working so i couldn't phone anyone. And I left the chocolate you gave me at
home!
Maya: Oh no! Was the guesthouse that you stayed in expensive?
Kieran: Well, a single room was £22.50, but because we shared it was only
£13.75, plus breakfast - it came to £16.25 each.
Maya: Great. Are you going cycling again soon?
Kieran: Just for a short ride. I'm not around on Monday, so I'll go on Tuesday
- I don't start college until Wednesday.
Maya: Lucky you!

Everest and a famous climber.
•Check any new words in a

63. Rebecca Stevens was the first woman to climb Mount Everest. Before she went up the highest mountain in the
world, she was a journalist and lived in a small flat in south London.
In 1993, Rebecca left her job and her family and travelled to Asia with some other climbers. She found that
life on Everest is hard. 'You must carry everything on your back,' she explained, so you can only take things that
you will need. You can't wash on the mountain, and in the end I didn't even take a toothbrush. I am usually a
clean person but there is no water, only snow. Water is very heavy so you only take enough to drink!'
When Rebecca reached the top of Mount Everest on May 17 1993, it was the best moment of her life. Suddenly
she became famous.
Now she has written a book about the trip and people often ask her to talk about it. She has a new job too, on a
