  2. Foster Adoption Training Techniques Tips & Methodologies Lessons Learned
  3. Learn the Environment What is the Environment like now? How many users? Special Templates, Features any other Custom Development or is it OOTB? Why is the Environment the way that it is? Businesses Culture including who Manages the Farm, who creates sites etc. and SharePoint User Adoption? Where do they want it to be? Upgrading in the near future? Increased User Adoption? Rolling Out Sites? Governance creation/changes? Learn the Business Processes What is the Business’ main function? What are the main Business Processes? What Business Processes are they presently leveraging SharePoint for currently? What Business Processes do they want to leverage SharePoint for? Are there any other potential Business Process areas that SharePoint can be leveraged to improve? If so, how?
  4. The W’s & H Who will you be training? What will you be teaching them? Where will the trainings occur? (Classroom, Office, Online etc.) When will you be training? (On-demand, Limited Time, etc.) Why are you training?( Increase User Adoption, Improved Knowledgebase, Rolling Out) How will it be delivered? (In-person, online, video, handouts)

Developing Training Materials Training Plan (The What, Why & How) Internal reviews Gain feedback from the main client POC/s on any changes Keep track of Versions Consider people’s dislikes about training and try to avoid them (i.e. lecturing for hours without a hands on portion; handing out a bunch of papers that the attendee might misplace or lose) Presentations should be take-aways/user desk guides
  6. Audience Polling Ask your customer who your audience will be and how wide the skill/knowledge base may be Speak with your peers to ensure you haven’t overlooked anything Talk with your audience about what they would like to focus on Adapt the curriculum to address recurring questions/issues Always ask for feedback so you can improve your product Collect, store, and monitor responses to show your progress Leave time at the end of presentations to discuss peoples opinions while it is still fresh in their minds Cover your bases As the expert, feel free to advocate to your customer the benefits of covering the pro’s as well as the con’s of each topic Remember to cover topics that may be disliked – especially if you deem them important
  7. Survey Forms Always ask to see pre-existing survey forms to ensure you follow any formatting protocols Tailor the form to meet your specific needs and goals Remember to record and store your forms electronically (both template and feedbacks if possible) Direct Feedback Always ensure your Customer is involved in any feedback correspondence Record any verbal feedback you received via a recap email to that individual Once you have a system to store feedback, compile it regularly and share it with your customer Peer or Management Review When possible, gain approval from your peers and management to gain their buy-in Use these reviews as dry runs to sharpen up on your presentation as well as your delivery Ensure your audience has a clear understanding of your topic(s) after you finish When necessary, deliver any feedback to your customer so they can give final approval

Create Roadmap Timeframe Curriculum Metrics Locate Easy Wins Impact Potential Low Level of Effort ID Advocates Look for Allies Waylay Concerns Execute Training Plan Start with basic training Adapt to feedback Show pro’s & cons Plan for advanced training Offer Support ID SME’s Establish proper channels for problem solving Be mindful of scope creep

Public Speaking Training Public Speaking can be enhanced through: Community College courses Publications and articles Organizations such as Toastmasters ‘Keep Calm and Practice On’ Practice makes perfect Review slides in your free time (especially Notes sections of slides where more information should be placed) Ask coworkers for extra peer review sessions to help you sharpen up Show up early to allow for setup and testing your equipment Always have a backup plan in place if technology should ever fail Change It Up Always be willing to accept changes from the customer unless otherwise directed by your Project Manager (avoid frustration) Utilize what you have – Track Changes and/or Versioning If you have a partner, review which slides each of you will cover – switch it up once you start to get comfortable Try to change up your presentation methodologies – videos, pictures, audio, interactive portions, etc.
