Psaroudakis: Family and Football – The Psaroudakis Success StoryPsaroudakis
Psaroudakis, a name that resonates with football fans around the globe, is a testament to the powerful synergy between familial support and individual passion. Born on March 10, 1992, in the historic city of Heraklion, Crete, Psaroudakis’ journey to international football stardom is a compelling narrative of dedication, perseverance, and unwavering family support. His story not only highlights his athletic prowess but also underscores the crucial role his family played in shaping his career and character.
Psaroudakis’ early life in Heraklion was deeply influenced by a supportive and nurturing family environment. His father, a former semi-professional footballer, recognized Psaroudakis’ potential from an early age. Acting as his first coach, his father’s guidance was instrumental in igniting Psaroudakis’ passion for football. This paternal influence instilled in him a strong work ethic and fundamental skills that would become the foundation of his future success. His mother, a dedicated homemaker, provided a stable and nurturing environment, ensuring that Psaroudakis could pursue his dreams without any hindrances.
From a young age, Psaroudakis showed an innate talent for football. Growing up in Heraklion, he spent countless hours playing football in local parks and streets with friends and family. His natural ability was evident even in these informal settings, and his enthusiasm for the game was infectious. By the age of five, Psaroudakis had joined a local youth football club, where his skills began to flourish. His father’s role as his first coach during these formative years was crucial, as he emphasized not only technical skills but also the importance of discipline and teamwork.
The transition from playing in local parks to joining a structured football environment marked a significant step in Psaroudakis’ journey. At the age of ten, he joined the youth academy of OFI Crete, one of Greece’s most esteemed football clubs. This move marked the beginning of a more rigorous and professional approach to his training. The academy environment was demanding, focusing on honing technical abilities and instilling values of sportsmanship and dedication. Psaroudakis’ dedication to his craft was evident as he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a standout player in the youth teams.
The support of Psaroudakis’ family was unwavering during this critical period. His father continued to be a source of guidance and mentorship, while his mother ensured that he had everything he needed to succeed. Their collective efforts created a balanced environment where Psaroudakis could focus entirely on his development as a footballer. This familial support was not just about providing the basics; it was about creating an environment where Psaroudakis felt encouraged and motivated to pursue his dreams relentlessly.
As Psaroudakis transitioned from the youth academy to professional football, the challenges became more significant.

That Belgian squad had 10 players over 30 and the maximum average age of any Euro Cup 2024 team at the competition. A group-stage exit and just one goal at the World Cup put Belgium on course for a restructure.

Coach Domenico Tedesco has managed a tactical shakeup and a regular exit for some of the oldest players. Experienced bests remain, not least the 37-year-old Jan Vertonghen in defense, the 32-year-old De Bruyne himself in midfield, and 31-year-old Romelu Lukaku up visible.
Still, younger actors like De Bruyne’s Manchester City partner Jeremy Doku bring fresh vitality to the team. Euro Cup Germany Qualifying unbeaten with just four goals allowed from eight games was a welcome sign of accomplishment back on track under Tedesco.
The only other squad in Group E besides Belgium to UEFA Euro 2024 qualify unbeaten, Romania was awestruck by winning a group that also checked Switzerland and Israel. Still, Euro 2024 will test a squad sorely lacking in top-level skill.
Euro 2024: Belgium's Transition from Golden Generation to New Hope
Tottenham guardian Vlad Dragusin is the only Euro Cup 2024 squad member singing regularly for one of Europe’s top clubs this flavor. He even played only nine Premier League games since adoption in January. Goalkeeper Horatiu Moldovan is a stoppage at Atletico Madrid.

34. Netball – a tough season with some close matches Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 33
35. Close v TCC girls with a mixed Canbury Team Lost 6-7 on a Golden Goal. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 34
36. An unbalanced match v HSW Canbury could only score the one goal as they were completely shut out by the athletic and match sharp Year 8 A team. This was the first match where the girls at Canbury had actually played together… Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 35
37. 2 close matches in Tournament – but ended 3rd Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 36
38. Tournament Report Canbury Senior Netball Tournament 2010 This year we were blessed with good weather for netball. Unfortunately only 2 other schools took up the invitation to play in the tournament. However the competition was still fierce and lots of goals were scored. To make it a challenge all teams played each other twice and they also had to play several games back to back. This was quite a test for their fitness and highlighted the quality of netball skills. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 37
39. Tournament Report Each game was 15 mins, and Canbury were drawn to play the first two games back-to-back. Our first opponents were Hampton Court House. Their girls were well drilled and their two shooters were hungry for the ball and they proved to be very accurate with their shooting. With only a 2min break we had to face a second ‘fresh’ team from Thames Christian College. Similarly their GA and GS had a very high % of shots on target. Their team was very athletic and their training session with us earlier in the term was paying off as they had improved their understanding of the more advanced rules of the game. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 38
40. Tournament Report The Canbury squad was made up of girls from Yr 7 through to Yr 11. This was our main disadvantage as we do not train together. Never-the-less, everybody worked hard and we maintained possession of the ball well in the central part of the court. Our weakness was passing the ball in the shooting circle to get a more advantageous position to shoot from. This meant that the girls had to shoot from a long distance and their conversion rate fell. The speed of the opposition attack soon began to show as our defence in the circle depleted allowing the occasional free shot on goal. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 39
41. Despite our lack of goals and the success rate of the opposition, this did not have a defeating effect on our girls. They kept their heads up and in the ‘return’ matches we fought hard, showing greater netball skill and being more energy efficient with their movement around the court. This paid off and reduced the final score margins. With more girls in the lower half of the school, our squad should grow again next year.. The final positioning of the three teams was a reflection of the accuracy of the shooters. All teams played very well and the atmosphere throughout the competition was very positive. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 40 Tournament 1st HCH, 2nd TCC, 3rd Canbury
44. This term, won 1 lost 2… We would have liked to have played more – same story – not many other small schools seem to want to play matches – we miss Stowford College, but are pleased to have played HSW again. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 43
45. Senior matches – Yr 11 v TCC (A) lost 16-21 A game that was for the taking but Canbury seemed unable to convert possession into points. Sen v HSW B (A) won 28-10 Finally Canbury managed to hit the baskets – only a couple of days after the TCC defeat, it would seem that our Seniors finally got a feel for the rigid Sports Hall backboards. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 44 Player of the season: Dylan L
46. Jun v Rokeby (H) lost 14-16 Less close than the final score suggests, as Canbury failed to score points – again plenty of chances but an excellent and talented Rokeby team proved to be too much of a handful. In the end a late run of points from Kiya(who scored all but 12 of the Canbury total) but in the end this proved not to quite be good enough. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 45 Junior– Player of the season: Kiya 45
48. Table Tennis This year has seen a considerable rise in the standard of table-tennis at Canbury. As well as the annual fixture against Rokeby, won for the second year in succession, there have been several matches played against other schools. These schools have been considerably larger than ours and have a history of playing table-tennis at county and national levels. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 47
49. Table Tennis We have played Wilsons Grammar School twice, once in the Surrey Cup and once as a friendly. We lost the first match 6 sets to 2 and the second one played on the 24th March by just 11 – 9, with the last doubles pair having a match point which would have squared the match 10 all. We had a very similar game against Hampton School losing the match 6 – 4 with the final doubles lost 16-14 in the fifth game. We obviously need to develop a killer instinct, when we have the opportunity to win a match, and stop being so gracious to our opponents. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 48
50. Table Tennis We also played Ernest Bevin school in Tooting earlier in the year. Although we lost 8 –0, this is a school with a full time professional coach who have just reached the final three for the Finals of the English Schools Team Competition. Although these schools do not usually put out their strongest teams against us, the matches have provided ideal experience for us. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 49
51. Table Tennis James E, Turkay, Angus and Pouya have played regularly. James in particular has proved to be a really useful player, winning most of his recent matches, often ably assisted by Angus or Turkay in the doubles. Pouya has had an unlucky streak , losing several matches in extra points in the fifth game, but shows a determination which is bound to bring success in the long run. Dylan L, Will B, Mazighand Kamiaralso played in the recent match against Wilsons with Dylan succeeding in winning all his matches, as did James. It has also been good to see the interest in year 9 from Christo, Dong Juand Robert P as well as Mazigh. Hopefully they will successfully replace the year 11 players next year. Many thanks to Mr Williams for this report – and for his hard work organising the matches this winter. NB. Senior Inter House Tournament yet to be finished. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 50
53. Yr 11 match v TCC (A) lost We took a Year 11 team to play against an option group at Battersea – our lack of practise showed, but the majority came away thinking they ought to give badminton a chance. We also took the Juniors to Roehampton Leisure Centre at the end of the term – and will make more time for badminton next winter. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 52
55. Swimming Once again the high point of the Canbury Swimming calendar was the Inter House Gala – full details on next page. In the past we have managed to swim against Hampton Court House, and The Moat School – there is still a possibility that we might swim as part of a Sports Weekend with Moor House School, Oxted in the summer. The Gala was dominated by newcomer Alice F, an outstanding club swimmer – who despite having been unable to get to the pool for quite some time, rewrote most of the records Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 54
57. Swimming Dylan M in the 25m freestyle was the only individual who stopped Alice from taking a clean sweep of all the events – something that hasn’t happened for a while. The one swimmer who dominated this Gala in the past was Daniela Milroy who was unbeaten in every race for all 3 years 2001-2-3… although James Etchelles was until Alice the strongest swimmer of the past decade at Canbury. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 56
58. New Records then for Alice in 50m free style and 50m backstroke, and a new best by the Noble relay team. Using the ASA School’s Speed Swim Awards as a guide – it was good to see quite a few swimmers achieve Gold, Silver or Bronze for their hard work during the course of the winter. Mentions to Robert P and Simon A who gained Gold in 25m freestyle – joining Alice and Dylan of course. Swimming Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 57
59. Water Polo – won by Campbell All of the Campbell goals scored by Dylan M in the 3-1 win against Johnson and 4-1 victory over Noble. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 58
61. Top performer at the ISA Meetings James E who placed 10th at the London Area West Meet and 27th in the National Championships – full reports in Cross Country section of Canbury website Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 60
62. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 61 ISA West Meet Most encouraging was the size of the team that we took to Sherfield School – I certainly hope we can fill a minibus again next year. The standard of runners at the meeting is very high but I think it is important that Canbury runners are exposed to such quality.
63. Inter House Competition - Seniors William B (Noble House) again proved that on the Isabella run he is simply a class apart. This year he went under 14 minutes, leaving James E (Johnson) over 1½ minutes behind. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 62
64. Last year’s Junior Winner, Matthew S (Noble) was held off by Angus also Noble – and himself winner of the Junior event a few years back. Senior Girls event won by last year’s Junior Champion - Katherine (Johnson). Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 63
65. Juniors Boys race won by guest from The Moat School who came with a handful of very good runners – as they had been unable to make the Canbury Invitation Cross Country Meetings in December. Owen (Noble) was 1st for Canbury ahead of Braden (Campbell) and then another Noble runner – Yago. Junior Girls race won for Noble House by Yasmeen – who was also 5th Canbury runner home. Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 64 Inter House Competition - Juniors
66. Despite having so many well placed runners at the front of the races – it was Campbell – by a very narrow margin who won the Inter-House Competition – proving that it is important to get as many runners as you can to finish. Inter House winners - Campbell Canbury Sports reports Spring 2010 65
