The Journey of Embracing Change in the Classroomradiant3
To embark on a journey of change, one must not fear change but embrace it. Such is the mindset or internal monologue of an educator if they are to move along with societal change that invariably will affect how children are to learn or be taught in schools today. This session will trace the journey of how the presenter went on a journey to bring about change in the classroom guided by her belief and perception of what education should be about. It aims to share stories of how technology has influenced people's life with specific focus on education and the use of collaborative tools or technology such as Skype, Google Hangout, Wikispace, Frog VLE, Slideshare Movie Maker and Youtube as well as participation in online global projects.

The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.
What you will learn during the webinar:
- For beginners: discover PowSyBl's functionalities through a quick general presentation and the notebook, without needing any expert coding skills;
- For advanced developers: master the skills to efficiently apply PowSyBl functionalities to your real-world scenarios.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

A tale of scale & speed: How the US Navy is enabling software delivery from l...sonjaschweigert1
Rapid and secure feature delivery is a goal across every application team and every branch of the DoD. The Navy’s DevSecOps platform, Party Barge, has achieved:
- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images
PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

CHARACTER FOR LIFE
“Education is a lifelong journey. For that journey to be
meaningful, we need both passion and character. Passion
to discover more, to keep improving, to find great pleasure
in mastering something after putting in effort. Good
character is required to apply our learning
positively, for ourselves and for society. It is
not good enough to know a lot; we want to teach children to
apply their knowledge responsibly, with integrity and
compassion, to improve their own lives and others’ too.” -

His involvement in the industry began in 1989, where Laurence embarked on career in event designing after graduating. With more than 10 years of experience in his belt, he founded Avivar Audience Communications in 2001 and has taken these experiences to new heights by canvassing valuable opportunities for the team in many major national level events, which include Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Events (Announcement Ceremony, 1-Year Countdown, Mascot Launch, 99-Days Countdown and Sports Presentation), National Stadium Closing Ceremony, WaterFest Singapore, Play Singapore, Adventure Singapore, Enterprise 50 Awards, Total Defence Awards, HSBC Wakeboard World Cup, SCAPE* Launch Parade, The Cathay 75th Anniversary Celebrations, LoudFest and NTUC U-Run, to name a few.Beyond the works within the company, Laurence has also undertaken many notable projects over and above his busy schedule and these include being the choreographer for NDP 2008’s Bay Show, the production manager for Sleepless Town the Musical, and The Full Monty Musical, and using his design experience to be a judge for the National Commonwealth Product Design Competition in 2006-2008. With 20-years of experience in events at helm, Laurence has been able to provide sound advice and creative solutions for a myriad of events.
His passion for Power Boat Racing started when he was in the Navy (Naval Diving Unit) where he was involved in driving various fast crafts during active service. From young, his parents have always encouraged him to enjoy sports and he has strong afinity for water & boats. He started wakeboarding professionally and eventually became a Wakeboard coach with the Singapore Waterski & Wakeboard Federation where part of his role was to drive fast Speed Boats. Eventually, he advanced to driving speedboats for leisure. He was also actively organizing water-related sporting activities for the Singapore Sports Council as well as for corporate companies. In 2008, he was appointed the lead choreographer for NDP 2008, Sea-Display where he invited 2 Power Boat racers from Malaysia to perform, and that first encounter with Power Boat racing.
As there was no Power Boat Team in Singapore yet, his only way to pursue his passion for Power Boat Racing was to race privately in Malaysia. He worked very hard to improve himself and within a short period of time, managed to climb up the ranks among the Malaysian racers. In 2009, the State of Selangor hired him to race for them professionally in the Malaysian National F3000 (Formula 3) circuit. In August 2011, the Singapore Power Boat Association approached him to start a National Team (Team Singapore). His patriotism made him quit Team Selangor immediately to return home to race for his country for free.
November 2011: He was over taking the race leader from Abu Dhabi for the first position before his boat was involved in an accident. His boat was badly damaged and he suffered a sprained back, dislocated 3 spinal disc, a swollen skull, and 6 days of mild amnesia.
The Co-Curricular Activities System serves as a platform at which students can develop their character and build up resilient traits, which would not be achievable through classroom rote learning.
