CAD ASSIGNMENT 2 SPREADS

The project created 322 studio and two-bedroom loft apartments within the original office modular layout of the historic building. The units are arranged around two lightwells while preserving the existing corridors and doors. The building's bold International Corporate style facade features the original uniquely designed aluminum casement windows and sleek silver aluminum panels. A rooftop pool and glassy gymnasium were added to offer tenants special gathering spaces with spectacular views. The noted architectural firm of Wurdeman and Becket originally designed the half million square foot building in the 1930s, which was the largest office building in Los Angeles until 1949.

Baldasso Cortese Case Study | East Melbourne Residence
Away from public view, this project is an exercise in modernism that embodies the hidden character experienced within Melbourne’s inner city.
Drawing from Eastern philosophies of being at one with nature, we aimed to create a secluded home with a strong connection to its garden.
Service areas such as garage, laundry, water tanks and storage are buried below ground to make land available for private open space. Behind boundary walls, the living zones of the new extension are defined by a black frame with sliding glass panels blurring the boundary between the
garden and the living space within. Further containment of the site was created by wrapping the garden with a high fence and screen trees to create a secure and private open setting. The interiors have a restrained palette of natural materials to enhance the connection with nature.
The defining mass of the building sits as an elevated screened container, positioned to conceal the view of adjacent buildings beyond and protect the urban sanctuary within.
The Bay Bridge
The Bay bridge was built in 1936 to connect San Francisco to Oakland. It has main parts including the west span, YBI transition buildings, east span, and Oakland touchdown. When built, it cost $77 million and used 450,000 cubic yards of concrete, 250,000 gallons of paint, and the towers on the west span are 519 feet tall. It was constructed using 450,000 cubic yards of concrete, 200 million pounds of structural steel, and 200,000 gallons of paint.

The project involved restoring the front and rear facades as well as the light well. Scaffolding was erected on both sides to provide access for the restoration work. Bagnall & Sons managed the removal and replacement of pigeon netting on the building as part of the project.

Beeda had lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and called Utica, New York and the surrounding area home earlier in life. He is survived by his partner of 24 years, Judi Cross, and their extended family, which included three children, four grandchildren, and a sister. Beeda enjoyed traveling, hiking in Yosemite National Park, and visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame.
7 Design Principles
