3.  Formal greetings are used
to greet people that one
needs to show great
respect to.
 For example, one would
use formal greetings with
a stranger, a person in a
position of authority (i.e.
police officer, teacher), or
someone who is older
than the speaker.

4.  Informal greetings are
used to greet people
that one does not need
to be as formal with.
 For example, one would
use informal greetings
with a friend, a close
family
member, someone that
one has known for a
long time, etc.
