Space 134 Workshop #2 - Summary
The workshop provided information and received feedback on the Space 134 Freeway Cap project. Approximately 96 people attended. Participants provided feedback through an interactive workshop and survey. Key results were that 76% supported the project and the top requested amenities were walking trails, a farmers market, and a children's play area. The feedback will help inform the next phase of the project.

- 2. 1 INTRODUCTION This is asummary of Space 134 Workshop #2, which was held on Saturday, September 26th, 2015. The event took place from 10AM to 12:30PM at R.D. White Elementary School. The purpose of the event was to provide information and receive feedback on the Space 134 Freeway Cap project. Admittance and food were free and the event was open to the public. A mural truck, graffiti removal truck, and pop-up park made the event fun for people of all ages. In total, approximately 96 people attended. During the event, participants signed in and received handouts describing the project and the event agenda. Alan Loomis, Deputy Director for Urban Design & Mobility, presented a brief overview and update of project status. After the presentation, participants provided feedback about the project’s conceptual design, mobility alternatives, funding, and operation through an interactive workshop and survey. The results are included on the following pages. The feedback from this event will ultimately be used to inform the next phase of the Space 134 Freeway Cap project. - 3. 2 THE WORKSHOP SESSIONS • Design all spaces considering ADA accessibility (ramps, special needs areas, soft ground materials) • Encourage community ownership and pride • Create monumental spaces / landmarks (“The Bean”) • Have an amphitheater for larger events (fireworks shows) • Allow for outdoor movies (Hollywood Forever) • Design spaces that are responsive to the edges (quieter near the residential) • Some people want parking, some do not • Concern about uses that bring lots of people; consider an arts auditorium center instead of a convention center • Consider all demographics (skate parks, climbing wall/extreme sports, reading area/quiet place, tourist center) • Use reclaimed water and solar panels, limit the design of “green” spaces to be sensitive to the California drought • Include some water features • Minimize construction time and encourage phasing • Minimize noise during construction process • No loss of existing housing • Safety: have police substation near the sports fields, safe walking trails, safe crossings • Fire suppression in the tunnel below • General support for rapid transit and mobility hub • BRT/LRT on Glenoaks, some support and some oppose • Some prefer station closer to Glendale Ave to support local residents • Concern if the Glendale Ave exit will disappear • Consider connections to the Verdugo Wash, regional retail destinations, Burbank Airport, other rail lines, and east-west destinations • Consider including a street car • Encourage active transportation • Ensure safety for all users of the road • Concern that other City resources will be impacted if outside sources become unavailable • Concern about increased taxes and assessments • Concern if the City is considering a bond measure for funding • Consider having a large retailer in Space 134 to help with costs GENERAL CONCEPTUAL DESIGN COMMENTS GENERAL MOBILITY COMMENTS GENERAL FUNDING AND OPERATION COMMENTS
