Scale 16x: Terraform all the Things
Many companies continue to manaully create and manage their cloud infrastructure via web consoles. Documenting these procedures is challenging, especially since the interfaces are always evolving. Reviewing the changes is also difficult, and it often involves having a coworker watching over your shoulder. Rolling back a bad change requires deleting your current work and attemtping to manually re-create the old infrastructure from memory. Scaling or deploying the infrastructure to new environments also often involves manually re-creating it.
Hashicorp's Terraform allows for the management of infrastructure as code. While a growing number of groups have started to utilize this tool, most are only just beginning to scratch the surface of its potential. Yes, Terraform can be used to create and manage resources in AWS and other cloud providers. However, thanks to an ever growing number of providers, it can manage resources in many other popular cloud services. At Yelp, we use Terraform to manage our AWS resources, DNS records in NS1, CDN configuration in Fastly and Cloudflare, and our charts and dashboards in SignalFx.
This setup provides us with the ability to maintain our infrastructure as code in a version control system that can be put through standard code review flows. If we discover an issue, we can revert to an older, working commit and restore our infrastructure to that point in time. Documentation can include code snippets that can be easily copied/pasted in an error free manner. Finally, resources managed by one Terraform provider can benefit from and utilize information from resources managed by another provider. This means that launching a new AWS EC2 instance can automatically update the necessary DNS records in NS1, and then create a dashboard filled with customized charts designed to monitor the instance.

Extreme Programming and Test Driven Development in particular are practices that are aiming at supporting development effort by making it easier to introduce change. That said, sometimes those tools can become a problem of its own when applied in the wrong way or for the wrong context. Understanding software cost forces is a very important skill of successful teams and something that helps understand how to apply XP and TDD in different contexts.
Symfony without the framework

Burn down the silos! Helping dev and ops gel on high availability websites
HA websites are where the rubber meets the road - at 200km/h. Traditional separation of dev and ops just doesn't cut it.
Everything is related to everything. Code relies on performant and resilient infrastructure, but highly performant infrastructure will only get a poorly written application so far. Worse still, root cause analysis in HA sites will more often than not identify problems that don't clearly belong to either devs or ops.
The two options are collaborate or die.
This talk will introduce 3 core principles for improving collaboration between operations and development teams: consistency, repeatability, and visibility. These principles will be investigated with real world case studies and associated technologies audience members can start using now. In particular, there will be a focus on:
- fast provisioning of test environments with configuration management
- reliable and repeatable automated deployments
- application and infrastructure visibility with statistics collection, logging, and visualisation

This PowerShell script removes a user from groups in the CORP and AUSTIN domains, disables the user account in both domains, moves the user to the disabled accounts OU in CORP and the terms OU in AUSTIN, and logs any errors to a text file. It authenticates with credentials for each domain, gets group memberships, removes the user from all groups except domain users, disables and moves the user account, and handles errors throughout.

Quantum Computing and its security implications

It provided a single support model but fell short in management, automation, orchestration, and flexibility. Hyper-converged infrastructure tightly integrated storage similar to how virtualization integrated servers, allowing simpler and denser infrastructure. However, both converged and hyper-converged infrastructure only made infrastructure marginally easier and did not support the goal of treating computing resources like utilities. True cloud-native applications that are serverless, containerized, and code-focused will require software-defined infrastructure to fully realize the fourth computing paradigm.

It offers a single hub for teamwork through Microsoft Teams that allows for chat, calls, meetings and access to Office apps. Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
