Crowdfunding involves pooling money and resources from a large number of people through the internet to support a particular cause, business, or project. There are four main types of crowdfunding: donation, lending, reward, and equity. Successful crowdfunding campaigns create engaging video content, actively engage with backers, gain early funders, and reach about 40% of their funding goal. Addressing fraud and properly planning costs and calls to action can also contribute to a successful crowdfunding campaign.

What does your choice of technology say about your values? How can choices about technology help build community? Sometimes decisions about Internet technologies seem small, but these small choices add up. Building a strong, resilient, and accessible Internet in Canada requires us all to understand how our decisions affect the larger Internet ecosystem and what we can do to ensure that our decisions are in line with our values.
Using data from the .CA Internet Factbook gathered from audits of 400 Canadian non-profit organizations conducted by Framework, and examples from the Internet and domain name industry, this session will address some key decisions about Internet technology and how non-profit executives can make choices that respect their mission, values and the needs of their clients.

Preferred Stock: Preferred stocks are sometime referred to as hybrid securities, because it contains elements of both debit security and equity security. Preferred stock confers ownership rights to security holder that is why it is equity instrument

"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.

- At it’s essence, crowdfunding is using the Internet to take a little bit of money, from a lot of people, to fund a business, idea or a cause
- A key understanding of all of these (or a team member that specializes in at least one) is essential to having a successful crowdfunding campaign. LEGAL – Need to have your idea and intellectual property protected. Moreover, legislation is still being finalized by the SEC, so legal expertise is essential. FINANCE – Need to know how much money you actually need, why, and where it’s going to go MARKETING – Defined as a “clear concise message to a targeted group of individuals.” Need both for successful crowdfunding SOCIAL MEDIA – Becomes one of your main means of executing your business strategy. And today, we are lucky to have a presenter that exhibits, practices and really owns all of these qualities
