The document proposes a project to establish a mechanized compost harvesting operation from dumpsites and landfills to provide livelihood opportunities for scavenger communities. It involves purchasing land currently used as a dumpsite to set up compost sifting equipment and produce compost for seedling production. This would help meet the large target of 3 million seedlings for reforestation programs while creating jobs and income streams from compost sales. However, the main challenge is acquiring the land, as local funding agencies cannot support land purchases. Outside funding is needed to purchase the property.
Grant application to prototype concept: How could 30 scavenger families in one dumpsite create 15,000 jobs, a livelihood to 150 school communities, 105 million pesos potential income to farmers after 3 years and, 525 million pesos projected income after 5 years, and every succeeding years thereafter?
In Tanzania, Community Forests International has worked to plant over 1.5 million trees for fruit, timber and conservation to date. CFI has built solar energy micro-grids and rainwater harvesting systems for entire small island communities, developed new regenerative agricultural techniques, and innovated new low-carbon household technologies.
These successes have coalesced with the launch of the of the world’s first Rural Innovation Campus on Pemba Island, Zanzibar.
The Rural Innovation Campus model has proven successful in promoting positive change abroad, and Community Forests International believes that by replicating the approach in New Brunswick it may serve as a catalyst for the creation of much needed regenerative solutions here at home as well.
This design brief describes the vision for creating a Rural Innovation Campus in rural New Brunswick, Canada.

Valuation of Environment: A Study on Willingness to Pay for Improved Solid Wa...inventionjournals
ABSTRACT : Economic valuation of environment is not an easy but controversial task. Because putting a price tag on environment seems to be impossible. But economists are busy valuing everything in terms of money. From economic point of view valuation studies are much more required now days to find out the priorities of the people. Similarly this study has tried to find out how much value people put on a clean environment in terms of their willingness to pay for improved waste management. This study uses a contingent valuation method to estimate the willingness to pay of the households living in the township of Paradip Port Trust, Odisha. It also uses a multiple linear regression model to find out the factors which influence the willingness to pay of the households. The study reveals that almost 63% of the households are willing to pay which establishes a good quantum of expected revenue from the public in the form of a fee or tax.
There is an increased global
awareness that a modern
economy cannot reach its full
potential without nurturing the
innovation of its entrepreneurs,
and that realization enhances
the prospects for venture capital.
I am very passionate about using investment strategies combined with leveraging political and
corporate support to create radical social transformation and new markets in the developing world.
Since past year I have been compiling a set of ideas that IF implemented with the right
partnerships - can turnaround the fate of any developing country.
Please note that in this document we take the example of Pakistan. However the thesis underlying
the suggestions embedded in this document holds true in the author's opinion for other
developing countries/regions as well. Some of the ideas listed here are inspired from my work of
consulting governments and large corporations across LatAm and China. In my years of being an
investor in the U.S venture capital industry, I have had the privilege to meet entrepreneurs, Venture
Capitalists, innovation thought leaders etc. from 50+ countries (Germany, UK, Israel, India,
Singapore,Turkey, France, China, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Iran, etc. etc.). I can safely conclude that the
secret recipe to the success of U.S. economy and military might lies, to a major credit, in the
thought leadership and effective capital market of venture capital. Most smart countries I have
worked with have figured out tailored cross border investment strategies to be involved in the U.S
innovation ecosystem. Developing countries can learn from some these examples and replicate to
achieve great outcomes
We are a cooperative of climate and environmental services! Our high food productivity is a consequence of nature's regeneration inside our crops. Plante Chuva (Plant Rain) is a cooperative for climatic and environmental regeneration, based on syntropic agricultural production, family farming, the promotion of machinery and other modern technologies, and the holding and verticalization of the productive arrangement.
It means that we are an agricultural cooperative with many sectors and many families involved, which instead of producing in a conventional way, produces from organized planting and systematic management of trees in the agricultural area (food production). With this type of cultivation, it is possible to make it rain, recover the rivers and cool the climate, make the soil more fertile through the deposit of organic matter in the place, and harvest more food than conventional agriculture, which will consequently be free of pesticides.
We are looking for your support to pilot Plante Chuva, validate it, and take off to "plant rain" all over Brazil, and worldwide.

Micro RNA genes and their likely influence in rice (Oryza sativa L.) dynamic ...Open Access Research Paper
Micro RNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs molecules having approximately 18-25 nucleotides, they are present in both plants and animals genomes. MiRNAs have diverse spatial expression patterns and regulate various developmental metabolisms, stress responses and other physiological processes. The dynamic gene expression playing major roles in phenotypic differences in organisms are believed to be controlled by miRNAs. Mutations in regions of regulatory factors, such as miRNA genes or transcription factors (TF) necessitated by dynamic environmental factors or pathogen infections, have tremendous effects on structure and expression of genes. The resultant novel gene products presents potential explanations for constant evolving desirable traits that have long been bred using conventional means, biotechnology or genetic engineering. Rice grain quality, yield, disease tolerance, climate-resilience and palatability properties are not exceptional to miRN Asmutations effects. There are new insights courtesy of high-throughput sequencing and improved proteomic techniques that organisms’ complexity and adaptations are highly contributed by miRNAs containing regulatory networks. This article aims to expound on how rice miRNAs could be driving evolution of traits and highlight the latest miRNA research progress. Moreover, the review accentuates miRNAs grey areas to be addressed and gives recommendations for further studies.
Diabetes is a rapidly and serious health problem in Pakistan. This chronic condition is associated with serious long-term complications, including higher risk of heart disease and stroke. Aggressive treatment of hypertension and hyperlipideamia can result in a substantial reduction in cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes 1. Consequently pharmacist-led diabetes cardiovascular risk (DCVR) clinics have been established in both primary and secondary care sites in NHS Lothian during the past five years. An audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery at the clinics was conducted in order to evaluate practice and to standardize the pharmacists’ documentation of outcomes. Pharmaceutical care issues (PCI) and patient details were collected both prospectively and retrospectively from three DCVR clinics. The PCI`s were categorized according to a triangularised system consisting of multiple categories. These were ‘checks’, ‘changes’ (‘change in drug therapy process’ and ‘change in drug therapy’), ‘drug therapy problems’ and ‘quality assurance descriptors’ (‘timer perspective’ and ‘degree of change’). A verified medication assessment tool (MAT) for patients with chronic cardiovascular disease was applied to the patients from one of the clinics. The tool was used to quantify PCI`s and pharmacist actions that were centered on implementing or enforcing clinical guideline standards. A database was developed to be used as an assessment tool and to standardize the documentation of achievement of outcomes. Feedback on the audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery and the database was received from the DCVR clinic pharmacist at a focus group meeting.
"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.

Global Development Challenge
Lack of skills, assets and education trap scavenger
communities in extreme poverty. But, there are ways to
make a difference to improve both their lives as well as of
those in other poor communities. Not through total
philanthropy or charity, but through initiatives and
community collaboration that over time, will evolved
into business opportunities and rural livelihood.
Harvesting the rich mineral organic compost soil resource
found in dumpsites and landfill areas is one indigenous local
community initiative that would deliver economic, social &
environmental prosperity. And, an opportunity to promote
new market, new industries, and discover new models of
value creation for business in society.
The following is a concept proposal, when turned into a
business model will become a potential tool instrumental to
answer most of the SDG and may enhance government
programs and policies on DRR-CCA and Mitigation projects.
11. Already we have tried manual compost
harvesting and show positive result to
augment income of scavengers in
dumpsites and landfill communities.
- At Php30.00 per sack for a 50 kg. raw
compost, surely generates income. A
family can sift 10 sacks for an entire day
operation.
- Additional Php10.00 for loading and
unloading. Monetary incentive in the
delivery.
- Another Php10.00 for every sack sold is
set aside as capital build-up of members.
- The challenges of waste management
presents a clear opportunity to improve
the economy, increase social welfare,
promotes natural capital and strengthen
ecosystem services for poverty reduction.
12. Practical Actions and
Innovative Solutions:
- Manual sifters, cheap,
effective and economical.
- Refurbished old tires for
compost bins, beauty and
durability.
- Old refrigerator casings for
compost bins, abundant and
practical.
- Potting of compost soil mix
at Php1.00 per seedling pot.
Another innovative solution
to augment income.

Traditional practice by local government seedling

comes from large corporations with technology to supply

depriving local livelihood opportunities.
Although it promotes local livelihood, but it does not
usually practice community collaboration. Livelihood
formation is given to selected groups and sharing of
opportunities is limited to members only. Traditional
practice of the Department of Natural Resources
reforestation projects.
We only have one existing school nursery implementing
social mobilization scheme. Through shared value of the
convergence initiative network, nursery operations has
no overhead cost and seedlings produced can be given
free for dissemination. Success through collective impact
allows social mobilization scheme to survive to date.
However, sustainability is dependent on continued
support of partners and scaling up initiative is difficult to
replicate. Converting scheme into business approach is
the way forward for sustainable future.

Our primordial obstacle to garner local government support
especially on infrastructure interventions and equipment
procurement is our lack of equity, land. Local funding agencies could
not extend grant for lot purchase.
This one great obstacle is preventing us to move forward and to
receive local assistance.
Should outside funders help us acquire our city dumpsite
property which is presently offered for sale by the lot owners,
definitely, we could catalyze more collaboration and partnership with
other local government agencies in accomplishing at least 3
sustainable developmental challenges.
Poverty is the greatest challenge to achieve development and we
address the same through the sector it represent. We will make the
poorest among the poorest sector of society silent change makers &
actors in development.
We will work to make scavengers’ communities heroes for
change. We intend to formulate a business enterprise with them as
stakeholder-entrepreneurs. We aim to formulate a business model
for them to become shareholders and investors. We aim to grant
them the freedom to own and have ownership on real properties
and assets. We aim to improve their lives through business and
services for the environment.
We will make them champions for agricultural growth and
environmental development. And, they will be instruments in
environmental institutionalism strategies.
20. May we attached Pledges of Commitment of important personalities driven to undertake programs & activities to
implementing the project. Though it's addressed to another organization application for proposal (we didn't qualify) but the
same intention remain strong. We could accelerate implementation should outside source considers extending assistance to
purchase this private property our local funding agencies and financial institution could not accommodate.
21. Challenges as for June 2015:
1. Department of Labor & Employment (DOLE), a national government funding agency, requires contract with lot
owner of Barangay Combado Dumpsite as requisite for assistance in procurement of sifting machine, tools &
materials. But plans of excavating compost deposit is not favorable to lot owner. Although lot owner suggest of
selling the property.
2. There are no local funding source that could extend financial assistance for the purchase of real property or buy the
property utilized by the city government as dumpsite.
3. Seeking probable outside funding source through grant calls for project proposal applications. Hope to find partners
to invest in the purchase of lot presently utilized by city government as dumpsite. And,
4. Continue to send project application proposals whenever there is an opportunity.
5. Requisites for a winning proposal…. Common goal…Define governance…Define clear impacts from business and
social and/or environmental perspective…Determine intermediary organization
Editor's Notes
Ultra-poor in cities & urban centers (scavengers communities) has the potential to become actors for agricultural growth and development.
3. Introducing mechanize harvesting concept proposal, with shedder plus backhoe and rotary sifter trummell…
Cycle of practical actions for biodegradable potential. Augment income, livelihood, minimize volume in landfill. Enriching soil fertility back into our farms and gardens…market potential/demand.
2. Harvesting compost by digging manually. Show pictures of manual sifting, max income..sacking, delivery to other communities for final vermin composting… And to community schools strengthening environmental education.
Individuals, Communities, Agricultural Entrepreneurs venturing in organic fertilizer production are prospective outlets. Using our compost as raw material for vermin culture is profitable. Sold at Php50.00 per bag of 50kg raw compost will yield 20kg vermin-cast. At Php5.00 per kg., a potential gross income of 100% over investment. Sharing of opportunities.
2. Individuals, communities, organizations can market vermin product to 2 & 3.
Strengthening existing resources and gather local institutions for greater collaboration.
Performance-Based approach to foster sustainable finance. Finding other donor organizations as marketing outlet for the seedlings. It could be in a form of farmers loan assistance.
Performance-Based approach to foster sustainable finance. Finding other donor organizations as marketing outlet for the seedlings. It could be in a form of farmers loan assistance.
Finding innovative ways for social mobilization scheme to work scaling up into community livelihood.
Equity in the form of real property is the greatest challenge we have today. How could we invite foreign support for the purchase of lot presently utilized as landfill site by our city government. Excavating the abundant compost will link activities that would promote economic progress for the locality.
Local collaboration is one difficult task. Aligning programs with local governments and agencies is really one daunting task. We have started above personalities that could trigger greater local multi-sector partnership but it is not enough to stir sincere commitment. Outside partnership is essential to achieve stronger collaboration.
