The Non-Diagetic Sounds We Need:
 We also created a list of all of the non-diagetic sounds
that we would need to add effect to our overall opening
of our horror film. These consisted of:
 - Production company sound
 - Theme tune
 - Eerie music throughout
 - Heartbeat
 - Stepping into a park
How Will We Do This:
We will be using some of our own recordings and also free
sound effects from various software websites such as
www.freesound.org, to create both the Diagetic and Non-
Diagetic sounds. For example, we will record Anna saying
‘We All Fall Down’ as this would be a difficult sound to
acquire this from a free sound website. By doing this we
can ensure that we can use the correct sounds for our
 horror opening.
The Overall Effect Of Sound:
The use of all sounds in horror films and especially our
opening clip allows the audience to feel drawn into the
action and adds suspense and tension throughout. On the
other hand silence can also be very effective due to its
eerie atmosphere. Furthermore, sound contributes to the
mise en scene therefore without it, it would not reflect
 the true atmosphere.
Examples Of Sound Used in Horror:
Within every horror film there are
 both Diagetic and Non-Diagetic
sounds used, it is always in place
to add effect to the overall piece.
For example in the film 'The Ring'
a lot of the sound used is Non-
Diagetic which helps to create a
 strange exterior for the audience.
 Whereas in 'Paranormal Activity'
 there is mostly Diagetic sound
 used which allows the audience
to be part of the scene, feeling
 everything the characters feel. If
you look at a film like 'Sorority
Row' which uses both types of
sound, it is difficult to distinguish
which is which due to the reality
of the plot and the way the
 characters react.
