Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

• We will mostly be using natural lighting throughout our
film this is because it gives the most realistic looking
effect on screen which is what we want for our film to fit
into the drama genre as the main feature of a drama is it
covers everyday struggles and the natural lighting will
make it look as though the film is realistic.
3. High-Contrast Lighting
• High lighting will be used in our film will be used in our
hospital scenes as it creates a strong contrast between
bright light and shadows with an in-between grey scale
this will be good to create the intense lighting that will
help create suspense.
4. Top Lighting
• Top lighting is where the source is placed above the
subject.
• We will be using top lighting for the shot where we see
Toby in hospital to create a operation room atmosphere.
This will work well as we want to be able to create
tension and with and the use of high- contrast will do so.
5. Diegetic sound
• Diegetic sound is sound that can be heard by the
characters within a scene/ sound part of the imaginary
world.
• We will be using this throughout our film to create the
realism that we what to portray. For example in our film
we will be hearing a radio playing which will be diegetic
sound as the character will also hear it.
6. Non-Diegetic sound
• This is sound that the characters cannot hear and is not
part of the imaginary world of the story.
• The way we are going to be using non-diegetic sound
through music which we are going to add at the
beginning of the short film.
7. Sound effects
• Which is sounds that are added to a film during the post-
production stage.
• We will be using this to emphasize certain noises that we
want the audience to hear clearly for example when we
hear the crash.
