Essay- How Computers Benefit Businesses
The business world of the 21st century is becoming more demanding and challenging as
operations grew bigger and more complex with projects that need to be done in smaller time
frames. There is very little room for even slight errors and mistakes; as such errors can cost
businessmen millions of dollars. Therefore, reliable workforces are much needed to get projects
done quickly as well as efficiently. This is why computeraided tasks are becoming an increasingly
popular trend nowadays.
The first generation of computers dates back to as early as the 1940 s. The computers of that time
however proved to be a hassle just to run and maintain it to be of any use to businesses of the
times. It was very huge, extremely sluggish and slow but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Errors only occur if data or instructions itself that are being keyed into the computer contains error.
This is very important for companies to avoid problems, because a slight error can be costly as
mentioned earlier. A good example is when an accountant is doing hefty financial calculations, if
there s even a slight mistake in the calculation; the whole account needs to be recalculated, which
will take a lot of time. With the help of computers, such problems do not exist.
Computers have the ability to store data in its storage media. This means previous transactions,
client database and other form of business related information can be stored electronically inside
a computer for future reference. This is very useful as it replaces the obsolete method of keeping
records in files and papers inside cabinets, in a more secure manner where these data can be
protected with a password. Not only that, computers have the ability to search for specific file,
record or other form of information using the integrated search tool. This process is much faster
compared to the process of searching for files in cabinets manually, saving invaluable time.
Modern computers are very reliable and have low failure rate. Long gone are the days of expensive
maintenance costs and unreliable computers. This is because every electronic component in the
computer system have

The Influence Of The Parthenon On The Acropolis
The Parthenon and Erechtheum on the Acropolis Athens was a city state in Greece that had the
Parthenon and Erechtheum temples built on an acropolis. Both temples played significant roles in
Greek history, due to their dedication to Athena, the Goddess of war and wisdom. The historical
and architectural aspects of the Parthenonwere significant in displaying scenes of Greek history,
such as the Birth of the Goddess Athena, and the battle that ensued between her and Poseidon. The
Erechtheum was believed to be built in the area where the competition between Athena and
Poseidon took place; it had great significant value, much like other Greek temples. The Parthenon

The Erechtheum is not harmonious and is asymmetrical due to it being intended to see from a
distance. The structure is from the Ionic Order due to its capital with volutes, a continuous frieze
and the base where the shaft rests. This is the location where the competition between Athena and
Poseidon was held because there is a marker of Athena s olive tree. The judge of the completion was
King Cecrops, who was half serpent, half human. In the competition, Poseidon gave the Athens
saltwater, used for preservation. Athena gave them an Olive Tree which held more significant value
to them, thus Athena won the battle which led to Poseidon s violent acts that made Zeus interfere.
The significant aspect of the Erechtheum was that it was the place where the competition was held
and where Athena ultimately won control over Athens. This structure included the Porch of
Maidens which had relaxed female figures acting as columns with Doric capitals over their heads.
It also included Poseidon s trident mark, and a shrine housing a wooden image of Athena. The
Erechtheum also has the ruins of an Archaic Temple. This structure s relationship to Athena would
be that it is located where Athena grew the Olive tree that led to her

Example Of Service Oriented Architecture
Many businesses may decide to integrate Service Oriented Architecture with legacy systems to
standardize systems across the organization. An organization s reliance on legacy systems may
limit their ability to adopt SOA on a large scale. There are ways of mitigating the transition legacy
systems to service orientation. Legacy systems become costly and affect efficiency throughout
organizations. They lack the flexibility needed to perform modifications. Ideally, a legacy system
would be compatible with other systems across the company in a standardized fashion, therefore a
Service Oriented Architecture is needed. By failing to act, an organization not only faces the risk of
technical obsolescence, but also a dwindling supply... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Time constraint and running out of funds may be avoided by utilizing a bottom up method if
necessary, or even combining this with a top down approach. A true analysis of the needs of the
organization needs to be assessed and working closely with designers is a necessity. Instead of
letting an obsolete legacy system hinder upgrade attempts, consider re engineering it. Companies
may also find success in completing the migrations and transition in phases instead of trying to
complete the entire project at once.

Gay Adoption Should Be Legal
Gay adoption is a touchy subject to a lot of people. Even though gay adoption became legal in all
50 states on June 26, 2017 everyone still seems to have an opinion on the matter and a lot of the
opinions lean toward not allowing gay couples to adopt. There are so many children in the foster
care system that need loving and stable homes so why not let gaycouples give that to them? There
is a lot of evidence to show that gay couples can be just as good at parenting as a straight couple.
Maybe even better due to them being committed and better motivated because they chose to be
parents. No child should be denied parents that will give them a loving and stable home just as no
couple should be denied a child due to their sexual preference.... Show more content on

Not a single study has found a difference (between children of gay and straight parents) that you
can construe as harmful. (Dan Gilgoff, 2005) While the debate continues on whether or not to
allow gay couples to adopt, the numbers of children with gay parents keeps increasing. Children
with gay parents thrive and continue to do just as well as children in straight homes. However,
critics disagree and feel that children living in gay homes are at risk of having an unhappy life.
Gregory Rogers, a writer living in South Africa, believes that children in gay homes will have
issues that include the instability of homosexual relationships, evidence of widespread pedophilia
within the gay community, and the possible psychological and social problems associated with
children reared in homes without a mother and a father. Rogers believes it is wrong to trust
homosexual couples with the fragile and impressionable development of children.(2013) Even
though a lot of people feel the same way that Rogers does, that does not mean that it is true.
Statistics have shown that children that are raised by gay parents do just as good as children raised
by straight parents. Kerry Hosking, a psychology and metaphysics student said It is not possible to
discriminate against prospective (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender) parents, without also
showing utter disrespect for the thousands of kids who need them so

Total Control In The Handmaid s Tale
Have you ever stopped to think, How would my life change if someone was in total control of it?
How do you think it would change? Do you think it would be difficult living this way? Would
people adapt to the environment? What do you think would happen if nobody was in control of
their own lives, if we at the mercy of someone else. What if our lives were a prison to our
society? In the The Handmaids Tale this is what happens. People are forced out of their daily
lives and brought into new ones. Of fred, the main protagonist, is trapped in Gilead as a
handmaid. She is considered a two legged womb and only valued for her potential as a surrogate
mother. The town of Gilead shows male dominance and women only for reproduction.... Show more

Of fred talked about how she could never be like her and how she didn t have half the courage
she did. Moria was a declared lesbian; this went against all foundations of Gilead Childbearing. I
think if Of fred didn t have Moria for support, not in person but in mind, then she wouldn t have
made it as far as she did. Makes me feel safer now that Moria s here (Pg. 70) After many times
with the Commander trying to get Of fred pregnant, Serena Joy the commander s wife secretly
set up meets with the chauffeur, Nick. Of fred already knew who he was because he was her
signal if it was all right to go to the commander s office for a discreet meeting. Nick and Of fred
continue their meetings secretly without anyone knowing. Eventually this affair becomes more
than just sexual pleasure, but emotional pleasure too. I think Of fred felt bad for having
feelings for another man other than Luke, but she was lonely. Loneliness can cause many
problems, depression and sometimes as far as suicide, which some people did do. The outcome
of this story is unknown. Its kind of like our lives, we don t know what is going to happen. Our
future is in Gods hands. Who knows what s going to happen? This is actually a scary thought. It
sounds dumb, but I learned a lot from this book. I learned that your life can change at the drop of
a hat, nothing is always the same. I wouldn t have ever thought it was possible for an all women
society, but it is. I

Usefulness And Effectiveness Of The Employee Voice
Literature Review
This Literature Review will discuss the usefulness and effectiveness of the employee voice, the use
of engagement surveys, what employee engagement is, and examine the links between and the
affect of the psychological contract, and its similarities to motivation, and to what impact do line
managers have on engagement overall, which relates to the research objectives for this report.
As defined by Daniels (2010) a combination of commitment to the organisation and its values and a
willingness to help out colleagues (organisational citizenship). It goes beyond job satisfaction and is
not simply motivation. Engagement is something the employee has to offer, it cannot be required
as part of the employment contract. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are listened to and the employees see that their opinions count and make a difference.
Employees speak out and challenge management where appropriate. A strong sense of listening
and of responsiveness permeates the organisation, enabled by effective communication Gennard
at el (2014) p.329. Although Marchington (2010) argues traditionally, voice has been used
primarily in relation to union based and broader forms of participation, rather than direct
employee involvement, because this was seen as the principal way in which workers could gain
influence at work However the CIPD suggest that there are some benefits to directly
communication with staff and allowing for an employee voice. Employee voice is the means by
which employees communicate their views on employment and organisational issues to their
employers CIPD (2016). Marchington (2010) also claims more recently, analysis has shifted to
examine non union models of indirect voice. Overall the employee voice has influence as
suggested by the CIPD ( 2016) It s also seen as a central pillar of employee engagement. It is
difficult to assess in any useful way the level of employee engagement without systematically
consulting the employees themselves (Gennard at el 2014 p.317) As an attempt to address
engagement amongst employees, according to XpertHR (2016) Employers can use engagement
surveys to measure levels of engagement, which can help them to identify

Standardized Testing Benefits
Imagine if you or a friend had a talent for art, music, or foreign languages, but the school you
attend cut back on the time spent focusing on these multiple subjects and decided to focus on more
important subjects. Standardized test scores show the academic standing of an individual student
and are used to compare that student to others across the U.S. This can create an immense amount
of pressure on students to do well. Standardized tests focus on the core subjects of math and
reading, with a smaller emphasis on science and writing. If the tests only focus on four main
subjects than how can they measure other important traits or skills? We all have so many talents
beyond the core subjects that do not show up on a test. Standardized tests... Show more content on

Schools across the country are offered different course rigors, allowing some students to be
more prepared for tests such as the SAT and ACT. The SAT and ACT are standardized tests that
high school students are required to take to get into college. According to College Board, a
private nonprofit corporation that owns the SAT, the test is designed to, measure the essential
ingredients for college and career readiness and success. The ACT test is designed to measure
college and career readiness as well. College Board also recommends students take challenging
courses in order to do well on the test. According to College Board an AP class gives you the
academic skills you need in college. If students are able to take AP courses, they have a higher
probability of performing better on these tests compared to students who have not taken AP
courses ( The College Board ). An example of this unfair advantage is between Indian Hill High
School and Cincinnati Public Schools. Indian Hill High School offers a total of 27 different AP
courses to their students ( Academics ). At Cincinnati Public Schools, there are only 13 different
AP courses offered to high school students ( AP Blended ). Indian Hill High School offers 17
more AP classes compared to Cincinnati Public Schools. The number of AP course offered to
students at Indian Hill provides an unfair advantage compared to Cincinnati Public, to do well
on both the SAT and ACT and learn the academic skills needed to get into college ( Academics ).
Both schools released their average composite ACT scores, and while Cincinnati Public Schools
had an average composite score of 22 on the ACT ( AP Blended ), Indian Hill s ACT composite

Today s Exhausted Superkids Analysis
In Frank Bruni s editorial, Today s Exhausted Superkids, he talks about the lack of sleep present
in many high school and college students. He attributes this loss in sleep to a variety of factors;
although he seems to place the blame mainly on education. He blames the stress of getting good
grades on the widespread lack of sleep. Throughout his article, Bruni used many studies and other
writings to support his points. My opinion on Bruni s editorial is that it was ineffective in getting
the main point across. I agree with many of the points that Mr. Bruni brought up, but I feel that the
information he used and the way he wrote the editorial were uneffective. He did use actual facts in
some spots, though I feel they were used at the wrong parts throughout the editorial. His main
arguments were very unorganized. The evidence used by Bruni in his editorial was not very
effective at getting his point across. Most of the evidence that he used throughout his paper were
theories; theories are not always true however. In his editorial, he placed a study about the lack of
sleep present in high schools directly above a study about the small amount of sleep that the
average college student gets each night, making the two different studies seem correlated.
Throughout the course of the paper, Bruni... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

why sleep is important for those students. I felt that he should have focused on one of those two
subjects to write about, instead of trying to talk about both. Trying to discuss both caused his ideas

Connectivity And Coverage Of Wsns Are Based On Upon A Lot...
The research efforts that addressed for the connectivity and coverage issues in WSNs are based on
upon a lot of theories and assumptions. The basic concepts of connectivity and coverage are
essential for understanding this issue. In this section, we describe the notions of connectivity and
coverage, the category of sensor nodes, sensing models and communication models.
A.Connectivity and coverage
We consider a WSN in which the sensor nodes have both sensing ability and short distance wireless
communication ability. The objective of the deployment of the WSN is to keep the FoI under strict
surveillance/collect data and then forward the obtained information to a designated gateway/data
sink. Hence, coverage and connectivity are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, we consider this connected WSN as 1 connected. Depends on the different connectivity
/failure resilience requirement, the stronger types of connectivity need to be considered, i.e., k
connectivity. Based on the definition of connectivity in the graph theory, which is it asks for the
minimum number of elements (nodes or edges) that need to be removed to disconnect the
remaining nodes from each other , k connectivity means that the network can keep its
connectivity by removing at most k 1 nodes from itself. In this case, a network with k
connectivity and k 1 has much better fault tolerance/resilience than a network with only 1
connectivity. Since the nodes in a WSN could be failed randomly which are caused by battery
depletion or wireless interference, preserving the k connectivity is critical for WSN and could
extend the life time of a WSN. Li et al. [6] provided a good survey on connectivity and coverage in
WSNs.
Besides the connectivity, the concept of coverage is another fundamental need to be understood
for designing a WSN based system. The coverage is always considered as a measurable metric to
evaluate the level of the monitoring for a specific FoI. Based on specified requirements of different
applications, the

A Brief Look at Bioethanol Essay
In transport sector, bioethanol is considered a main alternative fuel and there is significant
increase in production from 17 to 86 billion litres over the period 2000 2011 [1]. There is an
expectation to exceed over 125 billion litres by 2020 [1, 2]. Normally ethanol is blended with
petrol with several percentages, either low 5% (E5), 10% (E10) or high 85% (E85) [1].
Production Methods: There are several technologies in producing bioethanol depending on raw
materials, which can be from annual crops (wheat, maize, sugar beet, and potato), herbaceous
perennials (miscanthus, switchgrass and reed canary grass), woody perennials (short rotation
coppice and pine) or residues and wastes (forest Residues, straw and organic municipal waste) [3].

After 2009 each scenario shows different amount of emissions reduction. By using 10% of
biofuel the first and second scenarios present maximum emission reduction of 2.54 % and 4.1%
respectively in 2020. Third and fourth scenarios achieving 6% emissions reduction with 23.8%
and 14.6% of market share. [4] Another study conducted by journal of Applied Energy shows
well to wheel analysis of energy produced from different types of biofuel and their impact on
greenhouse gases emissions. As shown in figure 2, ethanol has lower carbon emissions compared
to gasoline and diesel. Specifically ethanol is made of sugar beet or wood has significantly lower
gCO2 equevlent/km than petrol fuels, while wheat ethanol produces greater emissions since
fertilisers are used in its production process. [3] Other Considerations: In addition to emissions
saving, knocking resistance in gasoline engine is another main advantage of bioethanol since it has
a higher octane rating [1]. However, there are other main issues that should be considered such as:
1.Land availability: specifying the location of these lands, the current usage and the net energy gain
(NEG) per unit area. Furthermore, the consequences of using these lands on food production and
water [5]. 2.Emissions reduction percentage: bioethanol emissions percentage reduction is strongly

keeping your skin dry and clean; and ensuring no extra moisture seeps within the skin. Topical anti
fungal creams are also used to help monitor the affected area, until the disease is no longer evident.
Being that this disease is contagious, there are many risk factors that come into play. Complications
include restriction from physical contact such as: sports, sharing clothing, bed sheets, and sharing
any form of utensils. Those with a weak immune system may find it rather difficult to fight off what

Analysis Of Our Town
Play Analysis #3 1. Our Town begins with the stage manager welcoming the audience and
introducing the town, Grover s Corner, and the characters that live there. He shows the audience
important places within the town and he knows what will occur because he discusses how
characters will die. Joe Crowell, a newsboy delivers the paper to Doc Gibbs and Howie Newsome
delivers milk. Both the Webb and Gibbs call their children down for breakfast and then head out to
school. Mrs. Gibbs and Mrs. Webb string beans together and discuss selling her grandmothers
furniture and her dreams of traveling to Paris but her husbands hesitance. The audience is then
given more geographical and political information... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Back at the wedding both Emily and George have a bit of a breakdown and fear growing old and
aren t prepared to go through with the wedding. Both calmed down and proceeded with the
marriage with the stage manager as the clergyman. The two then run off down the aisle after
being married. Nine years later Emily passed away while giving birth to their second child. The
scene is of her funeral in a cemetery outside of town. Within the nine years many others have
passed away including Mrs. Gibbs, Mrs. Soames, Simon Stimson, and Wallace Webb. Emily
joins the other spirits who sit in the cemetery watching the others. She goes back to relive part of
her life but the others warn her not to. She continues on and goes back to the morning of her
12th birthday. The memory proves painful for her, and she finds life was simply beautiful. She
returns to the cemetery and says the living don t understand. They discuss how the living don t
understand how precious life is while they are alive. She watches as George cries over her grave
and the stage manager bids the audience farewell. Our Town was done very differently than the
other plays I have read and I thought it was interesting. I liked that the stage manager broke the
fourth wall multiple times and spoke to the audience, creating more interaction with them and
keeping people entertained and drawn in. They also placed actors in the audience for a scene. I

Taking a Look at Sports Psychology
Don t think of a pink elephant. Come on don t let the picture creep into your mind. Stop thinking of
that... Pink Elephant (Gardner). It has been proven that putting a don t or a not into a statement can
cause the brain to have difficulties in interpreting the statement. In sports, players tend to tell
themselves not to do something. In soccer, a goalie might tell him/herself to not let the other team
score a goal, and then the team does. Or in tennis, players tell themselves not to serve the ball into
the net, and then they do just that. Sometimes they tell themselves to do something, and that athlete
might end up doing the unthinkable. With three seconds left in the game, a basketball player might
take the three point shot and win the game, even though they have never been able to make that
shot before. These types of scenario tend to happen all the time. Psychology, or the mental game in
sports, is so important it can completely change the outcome of the game.
Sports Psychology has become more and more influential in understanding how to play the game.
Serious athletes are now training their mind just as much as they train their body. They have found
that to be a champion, it now takes more than just being fit and having talent. As the pressure to
succeed continues to increase, athletes continually add both physical and emotional stress to their
bodies. Mental toughness, or the ability to perform at one s optimal level regardless of their
circumstances, is a

My Heart Leaps Up By William Wordsworth Analysis
Simple little things sometimes speak louder than big and complicated words. Many poems were
written about love and gratitude to nature, but William Wordsworth s My Heart Leaps Up is one
of a kind. Simple by its structure and word choice, behind these nine lines of beautify written poem
is hidden deep and complex message. The poem is about lovethat makes a heart escape from the
chest and bounce up to the sky. The speakernot just loves nature; he can t imagine his life without
it. He is a grown man, but deeply in heart he saved the child s curiosity, light, and innocence. The
child is a father of a man confirms the idea that adults are grown old children who haven t lost

He would rather die than spend a minute without of it. His love to nature is passionate,
unstoppable, and memorable. Nevertheless, it is quiet and intimate, but it doesn t make it any less.
The speaker doesn t use loud and pathos words to show his adoration to nature because he knows
that true love is in details. The main detail to which his heart and mind tends is a rainbow. At first
sight, for regular people, the rainbow is nothing more than just a phenomenon of nature.
However, for William Wordsworth the rainbow emphasizes perfection of the nature and
everything created. The seven colors of rainbow show the diversity in life. Moreover, it has the
beginning and end which can be seen from the perspective of completeness. The rainbow for the
author brings the light and happiness. The same as the rainbow appears after storm, the positive
and bright life always comes after dark times. The rainbow is a big colorful upside on smile that
sky sends to the people, and the speaker is overwhelmed and blessed by its beauty. The last line
shows how the speaker is devoted to the

How Did The Causes Of China Lead To Economic Success
With a gross domestic product (GDP) calculated at the equivalent of $11.06 trillion and an average
growth rate of 1.84 percent, China has the potential to surpass the United States economy by the
year 2030 (citation 1). China s rapid GDP growth is caused mainly by state investment, high
exportation, and successes with e commerce (citation 2). However, Chinawas not always a country
eager to open its doors to economic opportunity. Instead, the government strove to maintain self
dependency and to limit influence from other countries. Through the decades of isolation, many
countries attempted to gain trade relations with China. These attempts usually were unsuccessful. It

Zhao Kuangyin, the founder of the Bei Song region, obtained power by leading a sudden and
violent seizure of the former Northern Han Empire. Once the empire was nearly under Kuangyin s

under his temple name of Taizu (citation 4). Taizu maintained rule of the Song Dynastyuntil his

late brother s work of attempting to unify China by eliminating their enemies (citation 5). The
attempts were unsuccessful and, instead, the Bei Song Dynasty solely maintained peace. The
emperors following Taizong allowed the bureaucracy to slowly disintegrate, allowing enemy forces

Moral Reasoning And Moral Judgments
Over the last decades, research in moral psychology was dominated by the role of reasoning in
making moral judgments (Kohlberg, 1969; Turiel, 1983), while a more recent research emphasizes
the role of automatic emotional processes (Blair, 1995; Haidt, 2001; Pizzaro Salovey, 2002).
Therefore, there has been a great tension to whether intuitions or reasons play critical role in
making moral judgments. Haidt (2001) argues moral reasoning involves a conscious process, which
means that the process is slower, effortful, deliberate, and controllable, while moral intuition
process occurs unconsciously and thus, the process is faster, automatic and effortlessly. Thereby,
Haidt (2001) contends reasoning still play a role in moral judgments, nevertheless, it is most likely
as a post hoc attempt to justify one s intuition driven moral judgments. However, there are still some
studies maintaining reasons as the master in making moral judgments (Kohlberg, Levine, Hewer,
1983; Kuhn, 1991). Kuhn (1991) describes people still follow their reasoning to make judgments
even though it might contradicts with their initial intuitions. Greene, Sommerville, Nystrom,
Darley, and Cohen (2001) propose dual process theory in order to consolidate these two approaches.
They explain that both reasons and intuitions run in parallel or mutually competitive roles in
making moral judgments. They further describe that intuitions or known as automatic emotional
responses drive deontological judgments, while

Obligations, Reasons, And The Will By Ruth Chang Essay
In Commitments, Reasons, and the Will, Ruth Chang argues that there are special reasons for
actions produced within committed relationships which do not arise in other relationships, and that
the commitment itself gives these reasons their normative force (75). In contrast, in Autonomy and
the Authority of Personal Commitments: From Internal Coherence to Social Normativity Joel
Anderson objects that views which emphasize volitions fail to adequately explain the normative
failure of one who acts contrary to their commitments (94). First, this paper will explicate Chang s
argument for voluntarist reasons, and, second, it will examine Anderson s objection and his social
normativity proposal. I will argue that Chang fails to establish why volitional reasons are necessary
to explain the normativity of commitments, and, furthermore, that Anderson s account is more
plausible.
Chang regards commitments as exercises of our normative powers, whereby we will reasons into
existence for ourselves (75). She focuses on commitments made to friends, family, and romantic
partners, and those made to oneself in terms of projects. These differ from other types of
commitments, such as promises, since the obligation to keep a promise exists only because promises
invite others to develop expectations (76). The commitments Chang discusses create internal
obligations rather than moral obligations because, according to her, they need not cause
expectations in others (although they often

What Is The Theme In Psalm 23
The heart is the greatest weapon any warrior holds because when it is connected to God it makes
one undefeatable. David, who had a heart for God, would create some of the most beautiful
symbolic themes in his psalms by combining his faith and love of the Lord with everyday settings
that he was familiar with during his time. The symbolic theme of Psalm 23identifies Davidas both a
shepherd and sheep by creating a peaceful mood through the tranquil settings.
Theme
Although this psalm is often recited at funerals or solemn occasions, the original theme that
David established in Psalm 23 is faith and assurance in the Lord. This is determined by the very
first line of this poem David allows the reader to see himself as a servant of the Lord and not the
great King of Israel, The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing (Psalm 23:1 NIV). As David
continues Psalm 23 , he starts building on the assurance of putting his full trust into God. The use
of the words made and lead explains that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His metaphorical use of saying that the Lord is a shepherd, while considering himself a sheep is
very ironic because he is combining his past life experience with the theme and settings of this
psalm. David describes the detailed work a shepherd must do to provide security and disciple
his flock by saying the Lord s rod and staff comfort me (Psalm 23:4 NIV). As a shepherd David
understood the importance of finding his lost sheep, because without the protection of their
shepherd they would have to face the world alone. David carefully reflects this into the mood of
Psalm 23 , so the reader can gain an understanding of how God will not let His sheep stray too far.
David allows the reader to gain a true sense of feeling protected and guided because he states that
God s hands will guide them

with the release of the motion picture that idea became a reality. But not even Lucas knew what a

most enraptured with his work would clamber for every scrap we could get are hands on. It was

there are no billboards in the Presidio, where Lucasfilm is headquartered. The Page Owners

They then went to Google Maps and the roads by street level looking for appropriate locations.

What Contract Law Is Concerned With A Contract
Formative Assessment Essentially, what contract law is concerned with is whether there is a
contract in the first place. A contract is formed when there is a meeting of minds. There needs to
be an offer and an acceptance , with the mirror principle applied one must mirror the other
precisely , otherwise there is no contract. It is also important to be able to determine between
offers and invitation to treat. Offer and acceptance need to be communicated, and with offer, there
needs to be an intention to create legal relations. When dealing with the case we were presented
with to advise Francis, we must firstly determine where there is a valid contract. We are
determining which party has a contract and is in breach of it with Harry.... Show more content on

However, the postal rule only applies to acceptance, hence, Harry would not be able to claim
Francis is in breach of contract. The risk of the postal rule falls on the offer. Another way how
Harry might want to use the postal rule for his benefit would be to argue his invitation to treat
was an offer, and the letter Francis posted was an acceptance. If in fact this was the case, which,
as discussed is not, the postal rule would apply, if the acceptance mirrored the offer. However, if
we tried to use this, somewhat fallacious reasoning, there is still no contract. If Harrry s reply
was an offer, than when Francis replied with a lower demand, it cannot be regarded as
acceptance, as it does not mirror the offer. This would be a counter offer , which will be
discussed in greater detail later on. Back to the postal rule, it would not apply and Harry again
does not have a case. This is because the offer and acceptance don t mirror each other, as he
attempted to deliver 20 cases instead of 15, but as was discussed, Harry would not have a strong
case, if he tried to claim his invitation to treat was an offer. Now we could proceed in clarifying
Francis the contractual relationship Harry has with Indra. There is a contract it is clearly stated
that Harry accepts an offer from Indra to supply all the cases he has, and at what price. The offer
and acceptance are communicated and mirror

Cultural Diversity and the Impossibility of a True Melting Pot
The core standards of America are founded, in principle, on the basis of its diversity and equality
among citizens. Begin ning with its Declaration of Independence, the United States distinguished
itself from other modern nation states by establishing a country of men who were different but
equal. Yet, despite the unifying images America projects within and beyond its borders
, the idea
behind E Pluribus Unum does not resound as one might assume it would.
E Pluribus Unum was originally intended to be both a representation of the union of the thirteen

E Pluribus Unum may show the United States to be a country formed of many different cultures,
and it may suggest the equality of all people, but even today many people, especially those of non
European ancestry, are often looked upon as secondary or non citizens and are placed in a socially
subservient position.
Since September 11, 2001, various communities within the United States seemed to be uniting for a
time, despite the differences that typically undermine the original intentions behind E Pluribus
Unum. Especially in places such as New York City, which is known world wide as a mecca of
diversity within its tightly confined parameters, people have been embracing each other as people
rather than as members of cultures other than their own. But there has been a backlash as well, an
increase in violent types of discrimination and prejudice in and near communities of Americans
whose descent is Middle Eastern. Many non Middle Eastern Americans blame all people who
appear Middle Eastern as culpable for what happened on September 11. So the attention paid to
culture, now, is based on the differences between Middle Eastern cultures and non Middle Eastern
cultures in America.

Go Set A Watchman Compare And Contrast
Harper Lee is the author of a very beloved book known as To Kill a Mockingbird. This book
resonates with us because it brings issues into the light that, at the time, were difficult to discuss.
To Kill a Mockingbird, is incredibly different from her other book newer novel Go Set a
Watchman. She originally wrote Go Set a Watchman, and then it was her publisher that told her
the story would have a greater impact if set from a younger Scout s perspective. How the publisher
was able to see the potential that the story had, I find to be fascinating. Personally, I did not enjoy
Go Set a Watchman like I did To Kill a Mockingbird. I feel that this is partly due to the order of
how we read the books. It is the same scenario as it was when we read the novelfirst then watched

us to read. Even though it was difficult to finish, I found that seeing a new side to Atticus was

Poet and author J.R.R. Tolkien is held by many as one of the greats within English literature. He

He left an everlasting impact on the world of literature by using his great understanding of

career. A man of higher intellect than most was Tolkien, which is what contributed to making
him an amazing writer and poet. On January 3, 1892 John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born to

The development of every person is the journey from childhood to adulthood through the
challenging period of adolescence. This period leads to a great transformation of the human
body which also has a great effect on the psychological state of a person. Such transformation of
a unique intersex person is discovered by Jeffrey Eugenides in his novel Middlesex that became a
bestseller and won a Pulitzer Prize. The author fills the novel with numerous autobiographic
details, whereas the work traces the story of a biological male who was raised as a girluntil the truth
is revealed in the period of adolescence. I also have found a variety of moments that resonate with
my feelings and experiences of adolescence during puberty that was still far from the hell
Calliope faces. The example of the transformation illustrated by Eugenides in Middlesex can be
viewed as a change that any person goes through, but that is much more radical in its effect. The
main character is introduced in the following first lines of the novel; I was born twice: first, as a
baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage
boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974 (Eugenides 8). The
rebirth of the main character that is performed in adolescent age is one of the most crucial themes
of the novel. Until the age of fourteen, Calliope was a girl, and despite how she faced her
differences from the rest of the girls, she did not suggest

The Need to Redress German Dependence on Russia for its...
How would energy diversification away from Russia change the behaviour of Germany to its
Eastern European Partners?
Germany is by a long distance the largest consumer of energy in Europe it is especially reliant on
foreign sources of energy in the form of fossil fuels. Germany is the seventh largest consumer of
energy in the world, (EIA 2013) and because Germany has an insufficient amount of local oil and
gas reserves to fuel its economy it imports most if not all of its gas and oil needs. Germany s
central position and size on the European continent ensures that Germany s relationship with its
neighbours is affected to a large degree by this dependence as Oil remains the most significant
although declining energy source in Germany, accounting for 32% in 2010. (IEA 2012 p.6) Oil is
imported to the country through its pipeline infrastructure and ports. Imports mainly come from
Russia, Norway, the United Kingdom and Holland. Germany is also a huge consumer of Natural
Gas imported from Russia, and Norway through various gas pipeline infrastructures. Because, of
Germany s European Membership and thus its European Energy Community membership its
Energy system is deeply interwoven with its European Allies and from outside this framework also
with Russia. Germany s reliance on the latter for a significant portion of its energy needs is a
worrying situation for its European allies, most specifically in the Eastern European Countries of
Poland and Lithuania. The newly built Nord

How Did Intelligentsia Play In Russian Society
Zhivago s children were the last Russian intelligentsia because the intelligentsia quickly became
absorbed by party conformism and bureaucratic materialism. The Russian intelligentsia failed to
bridge the gap between the pre revolutionary intelligentsia s ethos and mores and was hindered by
the communist experiment. Thus, the Russian intelligentsia did not transform Soviet society along
Marxist Leninist thought because intellectual discovery inherently contradicts the Soviet ideology.
Zubok s claims the intelligentsia transformed Soviet society in light of political liberalization and
cultural relaxation. However, Soviet society was transformed as Soviet citizens became
increasingly disillusioned with the communist experiment. Out of the... Show more content on

The role of the intelligentsia was clear, the expertise and knowledge of intelligentsia would cure
Soviet party and societal ills. As a whole, Soviet society wanted to move on from their Stalinist past,
however, the way in which Soviet society transformed was not state sponsored; instead Soviet
citizens were allowed to think for themselves. The Russian intelligentsia did not want to dismantle
Soviet ideology; instead the intelligentsia was searching for meaningful roles and moral values to
replace the unshakeable truths that had embodied Soviet society during the reign of Stalin. The
Russian intelligentsia wanted to create more ethical and aesthetic norms within the Soviet society.
Of those meaningful roles came self expression and individualism. In their attempt to reform the
communist experiment, the intelligentsia slowly dismantled the Soviet system through their social
networks, which were based on mutual trust and skepticism towards the official culture and
bureaucracy, assertion of civic norms, such as human rights, and greater autonomy in the judgment
of aesthetic norms. The Russian intelligentsia wanted to develop and publish their ideas in order to
further spread knowledge and thus, transform Soviet society from its Stalinist past. However, their
ideas were never grounded in anything substantial because their ideas inherently challenged the

Lady Catherine De Bourgh s Visit To The Bennet
Lady Catherine de Bourgh had visited the Bennets, and through her actions had clearly suggested
their inferiority towards her. Her true intentions of her visit, however was to instruct Elizabeth not
to enter an engagement with Darcy. Lady de Bourgh believed the Bennets to be a bad connection
and bring her family utter shame and public scrutiny, if a matrimony were to happen between
Elizabeth and Darcy. Elizabeth, not concerned with Lady de Bourgh s rank, did not grant her what
she wanted and had all the intent on accepting Darcy, if he were to propose. Lady Catherine de
Bourgh confronted Elizabeth and encouraged her not to engage with Darcy, claiming it will bring
shame and disappointment to him and his family. Elizabeth, however, responded

The Role Of A Monster In A Hero s Journey
What is a Monster? Monster: A monster is a character used in fiction to demonstrate any evil
idea or be the one to provoke a reason for adventure in a Hero s Journey. Without the monster,
there wouldn t be a hero or a story to tell. A hero s journey begins with a call to adventure. A hero
s journey is the expedition a main character, usually the hero, sets out to take in response to an
issue, representing a certain group or civilization. This twelve stage process can be seen in
many books. However, the first step wouldn t even exist if there wasn t a problem or an act of
unrighteousness that occurred. Who might have caused a problem so that a future hero could
solve it? The answer is most likely a monster. This idea backs up the opinion that heroes exist
because of monsters. If there was no issue or dilemma in a story, there d be no point and therefore,
no hero. No one seeks to watch or hear a story only abut a hero s life. There has to be an issue to
solve and whether or not the hero is able to do so.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the film, Bill and his Deadly Viper Assassination Squad have murdered the
guests at The Bride s wedding. He gives the viewers a rather vague reason on why he murdered
The Bride. The quote, No Kiddo at this moment, this is me at my most masochist shows that he
is the type of monster who finds joy in receiving pain (by killing The Bride). The Bride replies
with, Bill, I m pregnant. It s your baby before she is shot in the head. Without this incredibly
traumatic experience, there d be no reason behind The Bride s killing spree. Although, murder is a
monster like characteristic, The Bride does it in favor of her thought to be dead, unborn daughter.

A Research Project On Project Management Essay
Introduction
Working in the industry I do I have found myself in the position of either initiating or
participating the process improvement projects. I feel that project management is a very broad
term for any type of project that a company, or individual, uses to implement a change or
improvement to a product or service. With this definition, I concluded that one of biggest projects
I ever managed was when I was approached and began participating in a Greenbelt (PMP) project
for a process that I utilize daily basis. The intention of this project was to eliminate email
correspondence and create a more streamlined form of communication from engineering to
manufacturing in regards to change orders. As the bill of materials specialist for the configuration
management team and having 8+ years experience in the field I was the first point of contact when
it came to improvements or ideas.
Mission Statement
To begin a project a mission statement must be identified. A mission statement states the purpose of
a project its general direction and aims. (Leading Project Teams). A mission statement should be
clear and concise in nature and should establish the intention of the projects outcome. In this project
the mission statement, as mentioned above, was to ultimately to eliminate or reduce email
correspondence between departments. The mission statement indicated the project team
responsible for completing this project and the stakeholders who were responsible for the review

Adoption And Abortion In The Film Cider House Rules
In the film Cider House Rules, the doctor offers two taboo services, one that is legal and the
other that is not. The movie takes place around the early 1940 s when abortion was still illegal.
Dr. Larch is a physician that offers women the choice of adoption or abortion for babies they have
decided they are unable to keep. In many ways, adoption and abortionmight seem like complete
counterparts, however, they do have a few similarities that allow them to coexist. They are each an
alternative to becoming a parent. Whichever the womanchooses, she will not be pushed into
raising a child before she is ready. Each of these allows the woman to continue to follow her
career and educational goals. These goals women have in mind won t have to be put on hold to
raise a child. Both of these choices are an emotional processes that can be challenging. While these
choices may be somewhat different, neither is an easy choiceto make. Homer Wells, who is the
main character, is faced with many moral dilemmas as his life develops. Homer is an orphan
who was born at the orphanage and Dr. Larch takes him under his wing as a young boy. Dr.
Larch teaches Homer to be a doctor and perform deliveries, among various other procedures. As
Homer becomes a mature physician, he makes the decision not perform abortions because he feels
it is unethical. He considers every life to be precious, and is grateful that his mother made the
decision to leave him at the orphanage instead of aborting him. I feel

Fluoride Water System
Understanding Fluoride Water Systems
Summary: The article highlights that there are certain water systems which use advanced
technology to get rid of harmful contaminants from water like fluoride. This is useful to attain pure
drinking water.
One of the main contaminants that are found in water is fluoride. One should know that the greater
amount of consumption of fluoride can be hazardous to health, so one has to keep in check the
consumption pattern. If you want to get rid of this from your drinking water, then you should install
a water filter that will remove the fluoride, and give you pure drinking water, that is safe from
harmful chemicals and contaminants.
The question that you should ask yourself before purchasing a water filter to ... Show more content

You can purchase an ion exchange based filter that will remove fluoride unlike simple distillation
or chlorine purification process. Again, you can also buy filters which make use of AquaMetix, a
new proprietary filtration technology which removes almost 50 85% of fluoride.
Some companies sell their products claiming that regular carbon filters will remove fluoride, but
this is not entirely correct. Also, you should not be fooled by single multi media cartridge units
that contain a small amount of media in addition to carbon. A cartridge of 100% fluoride removal
media is needed to allow proper contact time for effective fluoride removal from the water.
The water system should remove chlorine, lead and mostly all other chemical and non chemical
contaminants, but at the same time should ensure that the essential minerals are not filtered out and
we get pure drinking water. Take time to find out the most suitable filter at your home or office for
healthy drinking water. You should not hasten in these matters, and find out the system that will
make obtaining fresh fluoride free water

Essay Flannery O Connor s Good Country People
Flannery O Connor s Good Country People
In Good Country People by Flannery O Connor, uses symbolism in the choice of names, almost to
the point of being ironic and humorous.
These names center around the personality and demeanor of the characters.
Hulga, once known as Joy, simply changed her name because it was the ugliest she could think
of. Mrs. Freeman s name is ironic because she is burdened by the land that she works, so is not
really free. Mrs. Hopewell?s name is also ironic, because she trys to provide hope, but is in fact
empty in her talk. Each one of these characters names, Hulga, Mrs. Freeman, and
Mrs. Hopewell, show the symbolism used by Flannery O Connor.

Mrs. Freeman is the tenet farmer for Mrs. Hopewell. Mrs. Freeman is very nosy and has a
fondness for the grotesque and secret infections. She has an attitude of trying to be someone she
is not, almost as if she is trying to be like Mrs. Hopewell. When Mrs. Hopewell stated to Mrs.
Freeman one of her many phrases ?that life was like that, Mrs. Freeman would say, ?I always
said so myself.? Nothing had been arrived at by anyone that had not first been arrived at by
herself.? Mrs. Freeman?s name could mean two things. One possible meaning is that a freed slave
was called a freeman, but
Mrs. Freeman is a white tenet farmer, so technically she is not free. This could show how Mrs.
Freeman would rather be a freed black slave, rather than a poor white farmer tied to the land. The
other meaning is that when people first came to America, many people would become indentured
servants, and then over time they would eventually get their freedom. These people were called
freeman. This meaning could show how Mrs. Freeman had a desire to be free and not work for
someone else. One day Mrs.
Hopewell had said to Mrs. Freeman, ?You know, you?re the wheel behind the wheel,? and winked,
Mrs. Freeman had said, ?I know it. I?ve always been quick.? This shows that perhaps Mrs.

Difference Between Contract Of Service And Service
For some people, there is no difference between a contract of service and a contract for services,
as long as they are employed. But, in essence, there is a difference between the two. A contract
of service is a contract whereby a person engaged in a service employer is engaged in a contract,
as well as a contract and the work of the employer to indicate that the work and contract for
services to be completed is defined as a contractual arrangement, person agrees to provide to
another person s employer or employee. The person providing the service is an independent
contractor. Independent self employed persons provide their skills, tools and human resources
independently, and do not work on the other person without supervision. It is said that a contract
for services has been signed. Contrary to a contract of service as a labor contract, the contract
for services is a commercial contract. The apparent distinction between the contract of service
and the contract for services : the self employed or the self employed person who provides or
provides the service fee or service fee is based on the contract for service. He is not a single person

Cupid s bow lips that I m well acquainted with but yet, never shared an innocent kiss of hello or

Symptoms And Effects Of Major Depression
Despite an increase in the percentage of people who acknowledge symptoms of depression in
2010 in comparison to the 1980 s, according to San Diego State University s Jean Twenge, there
is not an increase in the number of people willing to admit that they suffer from this mood disorder
(S.D. University, 2014). Consequently, it leaves one questioning how many of these individuals
are proceeding in regular life routines while allowing the disturbances of mood to escalate; thus,
increasing the symptoms and effects of major depression (Nevid, 2015, p. 504). According to
Nevid, the percentage of those remaining untreated is approximately fifty percent, with the
percentages being highest amongst Latinos and African Americans (Nevid, 2015). Additionally, it
is known that the recurrence of major depression, which is considered the most common type of
depressive disorder, characterized by a downcast disposition, an outlook of insignificance, and a
lack of interest to engage in normal activities, is highly likely (Nevid, 2015, p. 505). Moreover, this
form of depression is often accompanied by fatigue, sleep issues, changes in eating habits, anxiety,
guilt, irritability, concentration difficulties, bodily discomforts, and suicidal thoughts (Nevid, 2015,
p. 505). Consequently, having grasped an understanding of this form of depression, it is important
to recognize the various psychological causes that are believed to attribute to this emotional
disturbance. First, we can consider

Who Is Responsible For Gregor s Transformation
Grete s shifting feelings, actions, and thoughts toward Gregor makes her go through her own
transformation. This transformation which she goes through is a central theme in the story. Grete
goes from being a powerless child to a decision making women. Gregor s transformation leads to
his inevitable downfall (death) and Grete s transformation ends in the power and responsibility
which Gregor once held.
After Gregor s metamorphosis in the second chapter of the story, Grete is the only one who tries
to show any affection or care for Gregor during his time of nice and she really shows that she is
truly trying her best to understand and sympathize with what Gregor is going through. Gregor s
father is, however, still very violent towards Gregor because of his change, and Gregor s mother is
still frightened by his appearance. His mother won t even stand to see him. Grete is the only one
who tries and looks past Gregor s change, even though she is still obviously afraid of his new
appearance. She is also the only one to take responsibility for Gregor now that he can not care
for himself. She feeds him and tries to give him foods that he has a newfound interest in (Kafka

which foods he now likes to his sister. During the second chapter, Grete is not only the unofficial

The Alamo In Blood And Memory Summary
A Line in the Sand: The Alamo in Blood and Memory . Randy Roberts, James S. Olson. New
York: Simon and Schuster New York, January 22, 2001. 356.
Events in history are unchangeable, once they have happened there is no way of changing the past.
However, what can change is the perception of such events which in turns changes the sentiment.
When Randy Roberts and James S. Olson wrote A Line in the Sand: The Alamo in Blood and
Memory they changed the way the events of The Alamo could be viewed and thus exposing some
truth about the events that lead to what is known as the greatest battle in Texas independence history
. Some key ideas I kept in mind while reading this book and also writing this review include what

Randy Roberts graduated from Louisiana State University in 1978 and has been a distinguished
professor at Purdue for several years. Author of many books including Joe Louis: Hard Times
Man and A Team for America: The Army Navy Game that Rallied a Nation . His books are,
naturally, stories of important events in American history and the impact it had and continues to
have on the nation. James S. Olson, also a distinguished historian, graduated from Brigham
Young University with a BA in 1967 then went on to receive his PhD from New York University
in 1972. Olson also received a Pulitzer Prize nomination for his contribution to academics. He is
now a remarkable professor at Sam Houston University and has written acclaimed novels such as
The United States in the Twentieth Century. Vol. 1 and 2: America and co authored several novels
with Roberts. John Wayne: American and Where the Domino Fell: America and Vietnam are just
a few of many notable books they have worked on together. Roberts and Olson also tend to pull
information from several different sources such as other historians that have researched and
specialize on this topic and along with prominently known scholars close to them. This kind of
research can make their novels, such as, A Line in the Sand: The Alamo in Blood and Memory a
factual tell of events with new questions towards the events that pertain to the battle of the Alamo.
Generally speaking, I believe these two professors know exactly what happened in history during
this time and are very qualified to write a novel on this

Main Sources Of Cost Data
POSSIBLE SOURCES OF COST DATA
We are requested to assist the building with creating a method of construction cost data for client
throughout the pre contract. The task of data collection is a difficult procedure and can be include
to wide variations. Based upon our experience as quantity surveyors we chose to develop a cost data
collection method. Our define construction line items and quantities for relativity building types.
The method that provides the best opportunity for cost data collection was noted as the Bills of
Quantity method. This method appears to have advantages over the other methods but yet even
with the Bills of Quantity method some potential pitfalls exist.
A Bill of Quantity is basically a listing by trade of certain construction components that make up
the total project. The project may be a building. The Bill of Quantity documents quantities for
each element of the building type such as cubic meters of concrete foundations or square meters
of roofing material. Bill of Quantity is used frequently to assist in developing tenders or bids for
projects. The Bill of Quantity will be provided by the quantity surveyor. Once the quantity of
concrete footing is known a unit price to cover for material, labor and equipment is applied to
develop the cost of each line item or component. The total project is basically include of all the
individual line items.

  • 2. Essay- How Computers Benefit Businesses The business world of the 21st century is becoming more demanding and challenging as operations grew bigger and more complex with projects that need to be done in smaller time frames. There is very little room for even slight errors and mistakes; as such errors can cost businessmen millions of dollars. Therefore, reliable workforces are much needed to get projects done quickly as well as efficiently. This is why computeraided tasks are becoming an increasingly popular trend nowadays. The first generation of computers dates back to as early as the 1940 s. The computers of that time however proved to be a hassle just to run and maintain it to be of any use to businesses of the times. It was very huge, extremely sluggish and slow but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Errors only occur if data or instructions itself that are being keyed into the computer contains error. This is very important for companies to avoid problems, because a slight error can be costly as mentioned earlier. A good example is when an accountant is doing hefty financial calculations, if there s even a slight mistake in the calculation; the whole account needs to be recalculated, which will take a lot of time. With the help of computers, such problems do not exist. Computers have the ability to store data in its storage media. This means previous transactions, client database and other form of business related information can be stored electronically inside a computer for future reference. This is very useful as it replaces the obsolete method of keeping records in files and papers inside cabinets, in a more secure manner where these data can be protected with a password. Not only that, computers have the ability to search for specific file, record or other form of information using the integrated search tool. This process is much faster compared to the process of searching for files in cabinets manually, saving invaluable time. Modern computers are very reliable and have low failure rate. Long gone are the days of expensive maintenance costs and unreliable computers. This is because every electronic component in the computer system have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Influence Of The Parthenon On The Acropolis The Parthenon and Erechtheum on the Acropolis Athens was a city state in Greece that had the Parthenon and Erechtheum temples built on an acropolis. Both temples played significant roles in Greek history, due to their dedication to Athena, the Goddess of war and wisdom. The historical and architectural aspects of the Parthenonwere significant in displaying scenes of Greek history, such as the Birth of the Goddess Athena, and the battle that ensued between her and Poseidon. The Erechtheum was believed to be built in the area where the competition between Athena and Poseidon took place; it had great significant value, much like other Greek temples. The Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece was built to honor the Goddess Athena from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Erechtheum is not harmonious and is asymmetrical due to it being intended to see from a distance. The structure is from the Ionic Order due to its capital with volutes, a continuous frieze and the base where the shaft rests. This is the location where the competition between Athena and Poseidon was held because there is a marker of Athena s olive tree. The judge of the completion was King Cecrops, who was half serpent, half human. In the competition, Poseidon gave the Athens saltwater, used for preservation. Athena gave them an Olive Tree which held more significant value to them, thus Athena won the battle which led to Poseidon s violent acts that made Zeus interfere. The significant aspect of the Erechtheum was that it was the place where the competition was held and where Athena ultimately won control over Athens. This structure included the Porch of Maidens which had relaxed female figures acting as columns with Doric capitals over their heads. It also included Poseidon s trident mark, and a shrine housing a wooden image of Athena. The Erechtheum also has the ruins of an Archaic Temple. This structure s relationship to Athena would be that it is located where Athena grew the Olive tree that led to her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Example Of Service Oriented Architecture Many businesses may decide to integrate Service Oriented Architecture with legacy systems to standardize systems across the organization. An organization s reliance on legacy systems may limit their ability to adopt SOA on a large scale. There are ways of mitigating the transition legacy systems to service orientation. Legacy systems become costly and affect efficiency throughout organizations. They lack the flexibility needed to perform modifications. Ideally, a legacy system would be compatible with other systems across the company in a standardized fashion, therefore a Service Oriented Architecture is needed. By failing to act, an organization not only faces the risk of technical obsolescence, but also a dwindling supply... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Time constraint and running out of funds may be avoided by utilizing a bottom up method if necessary, or even combining this with a top down approach. A true analysis of the needs of the organization needs to be assessed and working closely with designers is a necessity. Instead of letting an obsolete legacy system hinder upgrade attempts, consider re engineering it. Companies may also find success in completing the migrations and transition in phases instead of trying to complete the entire project at once. References Erl, T. (2007). • 5. Gay Adoption Should Be Legal Gay adoption is a touchy subject to a lot of people. Even though gay adoption became legal in all 50 states on June 26, 2017 everyone still seems to have an opinion on the matter and a lot of the opinions lean toward not allowing gay couples to adopt. There are so many children in the foster care system that need loving and stable homes so why not let gaycouples give that to them? There is a lot of evidence to show that gay couples can be just as good at parenting as a straight couple. Maybe even better due to them being committed and better motivated because they chose to be parents. No child should be denied parents that will give them a loving and stable home just as no couple should be denied a child due to their sexual preference.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not a single study has found a difference (between children of gay and straight parents) that you can construe as harmful. (Dan Gilgoff, 2005) While the debate continues on whether or not to allow gay couples to adopt, the numbers of children with gay parents keeps increasing. Children with gay parents thrive and continue to do just as well as children in straight homes. However, critics disagree and feel that children living in gay homes are at risk of having an unhappy life. Gregory Rogers, a writer living in South Africa, believes that children in gay homes will have issues that include the instability of homosexual relationships, evidence of widespread pedophilia within the gay community, and the possible psychological and social problems associated with children reared in homes without a mother and a father. Rogers believes it is wrong to trust homosexual couples with the fragile and impressionable development of children.(2013) Even though a lot of people feel the same way that Rogers does, that does not mean that it is true. Statistics have shown that children that are raised by gay parents do just as good as children raised by straight parents. Kerry Hosking, a psychology and metaphysics student said It is not possible to discriminate against prospective (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender) parents, without also showing utter disrespect for the thousands of kids who need them so ... • 6. Total Control In The Handmaid s Tale Have you ever stopped to think, How would my life change if someone was in total control of it? How do you think it would change? Do you think it would be difficult living this way? Would people adapt to the environment? What do you think would happen if nobody was in control of their own lives, if we at the mercy of someone else. What if our lives were a prison to our society? In the The Handmaids Tale this is what happens. People are forced out of their daily lives and brought into new ones. Of fred, the main protagonist, is trapped in Gilead as a handmaid. She is considered a two legged womb and only valued for her potential as a surrogate mother. The town of Gilead shows male dominance and women only for reproduction.... Makes me feel safer now that Moria s here (Pg. 70) After many times with the Commander trying to get Of fred pregnant, Serena Joy the commander s wife secretly set up meets with the chauffeur, Nick. Of fred already knew who he was because he was her signal if it was all right to go to the commander s office for a discreet meeting. Nick and Of fred continue their meetings secretly without anyone knowing. Eventually this affair becomes more than just sexual pleasure, but emotional pleasure too. I think Of fred felt bad for having feelings for another man other than Luke, but she was lonely. Loneliness can cause many problems, depression and sometimes as far as suicide, which some people did do. The outcome of this story is unknown. Its kind of like our lives, we don t know what is going to happen. Our future is in Gods hands. Who knows what s going to happen? This is actually a scary thought. Although Marchington (2010) argues traditionally, voice has been used primarily in relation to union based and broader forms of participation, rather than direct employee involvement, because this was seen as the principal way in which workers could gain influence at work However the CIPD suggest that there are some benefits to directly communication with staff and allowing for an employee voice. Employee voice is the means by which employees communicate their views on employment and organisational issues to their employers CIPD (2016). Marchington (2010) also claims more recently, analysis has shifted to examine non union models of indirect voice. Overall the employee voice has influence as suggested by the CIPD ( 2016) It s also seen as a central pillar of employee engagement. It is difficult to assess in any useful way the level of employee engagement without systematically consulting the employees themselves (Gennard at el 2014 p.317) As an attempt to address engagement amongst employees, according to XpertHR (2016) Employers can use engagement surveys to measure levels of engagement, which can help them to identify ... Standardized Testing Benefits Imagine if you or a friend had a talent for art, music, or foreign languages, but the school you attend cut back on the time spent focusing on these multiple subjects and decided to focus on more important subjects. Standardized test scores show the academic standing of an individual student and are used to compare that student to others across the U.S. This can create an immense amount of pressure on students to do well. Standardized tests focus on the core subjects of math and reading, with a smaller emphasis on science and writing. He attributes this loss in sleep to a variety of factors; although he seems to place the blame mainly on education. He blames the stress of getting good grades on the widespread lack of sleep. Throughout his article, Bruni used many studies and other writings to support his points. My opinion on Bruni s editorial is that it was ineffective in getting the main point across. I agree with many of the points that Mr. Bruni brought up, but I feel that the information he used and the way he wrote the editorial were uneffective. He did use actual facts in some spots, though I feel they were used at the wrong parts throughout the editorial. His main arguments were very unorganized. The evidence used by Bruni in his editorial was not very effective at getting his point across. Most of the evidence that he used throughout his paper were theories; theories are not always true however. In his editorial, he placed a study about the lack of sleep present in high schools directly above a study about the small amount of sleep that the average college student gets each night, making the two different studies seem correlated. The research efforts that addressed for the connectivity and coverage issues in WSNs are based on upon a lot of theories and assumptions. The basic concepts of connectivity and coverage are essential for understanding this issue. In this section, we describe the notions of connectivity and coverage, the category of sensor nodes, sensing models and communication models. A.Connectivity and coverage We consider a WSN in which the sensor nodes have both sensing ability and short distance wireless communication ability. The objective of the deployment of the WSN is to keep the FoI under strict surveillance/collect data and then forward the obtained information to a designated gateway/data sink. Hence, coverage and connectivity are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, we consider this connected WSN as 1 connected. Depends on the different connectivity /failure resilience requirement, the stronger types of connectivity need to be considered, i.e., k connectivity. Based on the definition of connectivity in the graph theory, which is it asks for the minimum number of elements (nodes or edges) that need to be removed to disconnect the remaining nodes from each other , k connectivity means that the network can keep its connectivity by removing at most k 1 nodes from itself. In this case, a network with k connectivity and k 1 has much better fault tolerance/resilience than a network with only 1 connectivity. Since the nodes in a WSN could be failed randomly which are caused by battery depletion or wireless interference, preserving the k connectivity is critical for WSN and could extend the life time of a WSN. Li et al. [6] provided a good survey on connectivity and coverage in WSNs. Besides the connectivity, the concept of coverage is another fundamental need to be understood for designing a WSN based system. The coverage is always considered as a measurable metric to evaluate the level of the monitoring for a specific FoI. Based on specified requirements of different applications, the ... Production Methods: There are several technologies in producing bioethanol depending on raw materials, which can be from annual crops (wheat, maize, sugar beet, and potato), herbaceous perennials (miscanthus, switchgrass and reed canary grass), woody perennials (short rotation coppice and pine) or residues and wastes (forest Residues, straw and organic municipal waste) [3]. ... By using 10% of biofuel the first and second scenarios present maximum emission reduction of 2.54 % and 4.1% respectively in 2020. Third and fourth scenarios achieving 6% emissions reduction with 23.8% and 14.6% of market share. [4] Another study conducted by journal of Applied Energy shows well to wheel analysis of energy produced from different types of biofuel and their impact on greenhouse gases emissions. As shown in figure 2, ethanol has lower carbon emissions compared to gasoline and diesel. Specifically ethanol is made of sugar beet or wood has significantly lower gCO2 equevlent/km than petrol fuels, while wheat ethanol produces greater emissions since fertilisers are used in its production process. [3] Other Considerations: In addition to emissions saving, knocking resistance in gasoline engine is another main advantage of bioethanol since it has a higher octane rating [1]. However, there are other main issues that should be considered such as: 1.Land availability: specifying the location of these lands, the current usage and the net energy gain (NEG) per unit area. Furthermore, the consequences of using these lands on food production and water [5]. 2.Emissions reduction percentage: bioethanol emissions percentage reduction is strongly ... The African oil exports and metals are indispensable for the UK agricultural and manufacturing areas nowadays, and as the UK has more access to African trading market, they also take advantage of an easier access to those natural resources. If the UK supports African economic growth by strengthening their trade agreements, then the UK would increase the living standard of its population. It has been proven that putting a don t or a not into a statement can cause the brain to have difficulties in interpreting the statement. In sports, players tend to tell themselves not to do something. In soccer, a goalie might tell him/herself to not let the other team score a goal, and then the team does. Or in tennis, players tell themselves not to serve the ball into the net, and then they do just that. Sometimes they tell themselves to do something, and that athlete might end up doing the unthinkable. With three seconds left in the game, a basketball player might take the three point shot and win the game, even though they have never been able to make that shot before. These types of scenario tend to happen all the time. Psychology, or the mental game in sports, is so important it can completely change the outcome of the game. • 23. Moral Reasoning And Moral Judgments Over the last decades, research in moral psychology was dominated by the role of reasoning in making moral judgments (Kohlberg, 1969; Turiel, 1983), while a more recent research emphasizes the role of automatic emotional processes (Blair, 1995; Haidt, 2001; Pizzaro Salovey, 2002). Therefore, there has been a great tension to whether intuitions or reasons play critical role in making moral judgments. Haidt (2001) argues moral reasoning involves a conscious process, which means that the process is slower, effortful, deliberate, and controllable, while moral intuition process occurs unconsciously and thus, the process is faster, automatic and effortlessly. Thereby, Haidt (2001) contends reasoning still play a role in moral judgments, nevertheless, it is most likely as a post hoc attempt to justify one s intuition driven moral judgments. However, there are still some studies maintaining reasons as the master in making moral judgments (Kohlberg, Levine, Hewer, 1983; Kuhn, 1991). Kuhn (1991) describes people still follow their reasoning to make judgments even though it might contradicts with their initial intuitions. Greene, Sommerville, Nystrom, Darley, and Cohen (2001) propose dual process theory in order to consolidate these two approaches. They explain that both reasons and intuitions run in parallel or mutually competitive roles in making moral judgments. They further describe that intuitions or known as automatic emotional responses drive deontological judgments, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Obligations, Reasons, And The Will By Ruth Chang Essay In Commitments, Reasons, and the Will, Ruth Chang argues that there are special reasons for actions produced within committed relationships which do not arise in other relationships, and that the commitment itself gives these reasons their normative force (75). In contrast, in Autonomy and the Authority of Personal Commitments: From Internal Coherence to Social Normativity Joel Anderson objects that views which emphasize volitions fail to adequately explain the normative failure of one who acts contrary to their commitments (94). First, this paper will explicate Chang s argument for voluntarist reasons, and, second, it will examine Anderson s objection and his social normativity proposal. I will argue that Chang fails to establish why volitional reasons are necessary to explain the normativity of commitments, and, furthermore, that Anderson s account is more plausible. Chang regards commitments as exercises of our normative powers, whereby we will reasons into existence for ourselves (75). She focuses on commitments made to friends, family, and romantic partners, and those made to oneself in terms of projects. These differ from other types of commitments, such as promises, since the obligation to keep a promise exists only because promises invite others to develop expectations (76). The commitments Chang discusses create internal obligations rather than moral obligations because, according to her, they need not cause expectations in others (although they often ... David, who had a heart for God, would create some of the most beautiful symbolic themes in his psalms by combining his faith and love of the Lord with everyday settings that he was familiar with during his time. The symbolic theme of Psalm 23identifies Davidas both a shepherd and sheep by creating a peaceful mood through the tranquil settings. Theme Although this psalm is often recited at funerals or solemn occasions, the original theme that David established in Psalm 23 is faith and assurance in the Lord. This is determined by the very first line of this poem David allows the reader to see himself as a servant of the Lord and not the great King of Israel, The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing (Psalm 23:1 NIV). • 33. What Contract Law Is Concerned With A Contract Formative Assessment Essentially, what contract law is concerned with is whether there is a contract in the first place. A contract is formed when there is a meeting of minds. There needs to be an offer and an acceptance , with the mirror principle applied one must mirror the other precisely , otherwise there is no contract. It is also important to be able to determine between offers and invitation to treat. Offer and acceptance need to be communicated, and with offer, there needs to be an intention to create legal relations. When dealing with the case we were presented with to advise Francis, we must firstly determine where there is a valid contract. We are determining which party has a contract and is in breach of it with Harry.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the postal rule only applies to acceptance, hence, Harry would not be able to claim Francis is in breach of contract. The risk of the postal rule falls on the offer. Another way how Harry might want to use the postal rule for his benefit would be to argue his invitation to treat was an offer, and the letter Francis posted was an acceptance. If in fact this was the case, which, as discussed is not, the postal rule would apply, if the acceptance mirrored the offer. However, if we tried to use this, somewhat fallacious reasoning, there is still no contract. If Harrry s reply was an offer, than when Francis replied with a lower demand, it cannot be regarded as acceptance, as it does not mirror the offer. This would be a counter offer , which will be discussed in greater detail later on. Back to the postal rule, it would not apply and Harry again does not have a case. This is because the offer and acceptance don t mirror each other, as he attempted to deliver 20 cases instead of 15, but as was discussed, Harry would not have a strong case, if he tried to claim his invitation to treat was an offer. Now we could proceed in clarifying Francis the contractual relationship Harry has with Indra. There is a contract it is clearly stated that Harry accepts an offer from Indra to supply all the cases he has, and at what price. The offer and acceptance are communicated and mirror ... Yet, despite the unifying images America projects within and beyond its borders , the idea behind E Pluribus Unum does not resound as one might assume it would. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... E Pluribus Unum may show the United States to be a country formed of many different cultures, and it may suggest the equality of all people, but even today many people, especially those of non European ancestry, are often looked upon as secondary or non citizens and are placed in a socially subservient position. Since September 11, 2001, various communities within the United States seemed to be uniting for a time, despite the differences that typically undermine the original intentions behind E Pluribus Unum. Especially in places such as New York City, which is known world wide as a mecca of diversity within its tightly confined parameters, people have been embracing each other as people rather than as members of cultures other than their own. But there has been a backlash as well, an increase in violent types of discrimination and prejudice in and near communities of Americans whose descent is Middle Eastern. Many non Middle Eastern Americans blame all people who appear Middle Eastern as culpable for what happened on September 11. So the attention paid to culture, now, is based on the differences between Middle Eastern cultures and non Middle Eastern cultures in America. I wanted to explore how American citizens choose, especially after the events of September 11, to deal with cultures found within the United States that differ from their own. This book resonates with us because it brings issues into the light that, at the time, were difficult to discuss. To Kill a Mockingbird, is incredibly different from her other book newer novel Go Set a Watchman. She originally wrote Go Set a Watchman, and then it was her publisher that told her the story would have a greater impact if set from a younger Scout s perspective. How the publisher was able to see the potential that the story had, I find to be fascinating. Personally, I did not enjoy Go Set a Watchman like I did To Kill a Mockingbird. I feel that this is partly due to the order of how we read the books. It is the same scenario as it was when we read the novelfirst then watched the movie with To Kill a Mockingbird. Our entire view would be altered because both conveyed the same story but used different techniques. I do not know how much we would have enjoyed reading Go Set a Watchman even if... Even though it was difficult to finish, I found that seeing a new side to Atticus was something that helped me better understand the origin of his character. I think that future students will benefit from being able to see how her writing evolved. We should be able to talk about the pros and cons of a book and be able to defend both sides. The truck driver did show reasonable care while at the intersection where he had the right of way. Furthermore, the driver did try to brake for the pedestrian but unfortunately did not react in time to stop. Therefore, the driver does not owe the pedestrian a duty of care. This period leads to a great transformation of the human body which also has a great effect on the psychological state of a person. Such transformation of a unique intersex person is discovered by Jeffrey Eugenides in his novel Middlesex that became a bestseller and won a Pulitzer Prize. The author fills the novel with numerous autobiographic details, whereas the work traces the story of a biological male who was raised as a girluntil the truth is revealed in the period of adolescence. I also have found a variety of moments that resonate with my feelings and experiences of adolescence during puberty that was still far from the hell Calliope faces. The example of the transformation illustrated by Eugenides in Middlesex can be viewed as a change that any person goes through, but that is much more radical in its effect. The main character is introduced in the following first lines of the novel; I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974 (Eugenides 8). The rebirth of the main character that is performed in adolescent age is one of the most crucial themes of the novel. Germany is by a long distance the largest consumer of energy in Europe it is especially reliant on foreign sources of energy in the form of fossil fuels. Germany is the seventh largest consumer of energy in the world, (EIA 2013) and because Germany has an insufficient amount of local oil and gas reserves to fuel its economy it imports most if not all of its gas and oil needs. Germany s central position and size on the European continent ensures that Germany s relationship with its neighbours is affected to a large degree by this dependence as Oil remains the most significant although declining energy source in Germany, accounting for 32% in 2010. (IEA 2012 p.6) Oil is imported to the country through its pipeline infrastructure and ports. Imports mainly come from Russia, Norway, the United Kingdom and Holland. Germany is also a huge consumer of Natural Gas imported from Russia, and Norway through various gas pipeline infrastructures. Because, of Germany s European Membership and thus its European Energy Community membership its Energy system is deeply interwoven with its European Allies and from outside this framework also with Russia. Without the monster, there wouldn t be a hero or a story to tell. A hero s journey begins with a call to adventure. A hero s journey is the expedition a main character, usually the hero, sets out to take in response to an issue, representing a certain group or civilization. This twelve stage process can be seen in many books. However, the first step wouldn t even exist if there wasn t a problem or an act of unrighteousness that occurred. Who might have caused a problem so that a future hero could solve it? The answer is most likely a monster. This idea backs up the opinion that heroes exist because of monsters.
