Philonous And Hylas Play Summary
The dialogue begins with Philonous and Hylas, the protagonists, running into each other. Philonous
is surprised to see Hylas awake so early, but Hylas seems mad. Hylas explains that he has been
contemplating over crazy beliefs that some philosophers have; those who believe nothing at all, and
those who believe everything. Hylas is scared that the philosophers will put thoughts in people s
heads, eventually turning them against their own religion and beliefs. Philonous agrees with Hylas
and explains how doesn t follow what he learned in school, rather he embraces common sense
opinions. Hylas is relieved to find out Philonous doesn t believe in these insane thoughts (mind
independent reality) that some of their friends do. Philonous explains that... Show more content on

Philonous now begins to explain how materialism can lead to skepticism. Philonous must now
explain that there is no reason to believe in mind independent reality. Philonous introduces the
argument from pleasure and pain as well as the argument of perceptual relativity. First, he makes
Hylas admit that we can only sense sensible things, and that sensible things are nothing but groups
of sensible qualities. Hylas hesitates, but Philonous reassures him. Philonous gives a cherry as an
example; a small, red, sweet cluster, which in actuality could be something other than this.
Philonous now introduces the idea of pain and pleasure. Philonous explains that pain is mind
dependant, meaning that pain cannot exist if nobody is feeling it. The same goes with pleasure.
Philonous then explains that this does not only apply to pain and pleasure, but to any sensible
quality. First, Philonous tries to relate heat with pain. He says that inanimate objects cannot feel
pain or pleasure; Matter is inanimate; Matter cannot feel pain nor pleasure; heat is a form of pain;
therefore matter is incapable of feeling heat; This means heat is mind

Factors Influencing Organisational Structure Essay
Introduction
The influence of factors on organizational structure and their impact on the organization has been in
focus by researchers since many years. This paper reviews the literature and analyses the factors
that influence the structure and design of organizations. Organizational structures are mainly
grouped as functional and divisional structures on the basis of functions or jobs. The most
important and powerful tool for enhancing performance in an organization is the organizational
design although there is no perfect or unique design. Organizational change occurs when a company
makes a shift from its present state to a desired state, which is necessary in today s competitive
environment.
Organizational Structure
Organizational structure is the network of job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The factors that contribute to development of an organization include its size, technology human
resources, production program and environmental requirements. The role of political environment
is also stressed. For effective and also efficient utilization of resources, designing an ideal
organizational structure is important. Some of the factors that affect the organizational structure
are decentralization of decision making, customer interaction, value of innovation and marketing
considerations. They can be grouped into two factors: internal that was from environment under the
firm s control and external, that were not under the control of the firm. Today, companies require
undergoing changes almost constantly to remain competitive. Globalization of markets and rapidly
growing technology force organizations to respond in order to survive. The ultimate competitive
organizational structure should be a flexible one and the design should influence competitive
strengths. The best practice would be one that draws upon the knowledge, experience and expertise
of people in the

Mandatory Bargaining Definition
According to Labor Relations (1958) mandatory subject of bargaining is noted by the Supreme
Court that the area of mandatory collective bargaining includes subjects relating to wages, hours,
and other terms and conditions of employment. Other subjects such as overtime pay, shift
differentials, holiday pay, pensions, profit sharing plans, rental of company houses, grievance
procedures, sick leave, work rules, seniority and promotion, compulsory retirement age, health care
benefits, and management rights clauses are examples of mandatory subjects of bargaining. The
parties can insist on the adoption of their position on a subject within the mandatory bargaining area
as a condition to acceptance of a union contract. Certain terms and conditions... Show more content

The duty is to bargain, not necessarily to reach agreement. However, an employer cannot make
changes in mandatory subjects for bargaining without first providing the union with an opportunity
to bargain.Issues that have become mandatory subjects for bargaining have been evolving since the
NLRA was passed. The US Supreme Court has identified two criteria for determining whether or
not an issue represents a mandatory subject for bargaining: 1. Whether it is plainly germane to the
working environment : and 2. Not among those managerial decisions which lie at the core of
entrepreneurial control. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) as well as the federal courts
have substantial discretion in determining whether or not a particular issue constitutes a mandatory
subject for bargaining (Petersen Boller,

History And Processes Of Digital Manufacturing
A company called Stratasys said that Digital Manufacturing is a manufacturing method that
supplements weaknesses of traditional production processes. It helps delivery times and production
costs decrease with prototypes and final parts directly from CAD data while developing
synchronical product quality. (Stratasys, unknown)
As furniture industry becomes developed, digital manufacturing has taken a important place in the
industry. Therefore, this essay will illustrate the history and processes of the manufacturing and
features of objects that made through digital manufacturing.
Zode.z, Shane.X and Dejun.C argued that From the period of 1980s, lots of new ways of digital
manufacturing come out such as Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Automated
Manufacturing . (Zode.z et al, 2011: 2)
These new notions make it easier for us to analyze and predict the future of manufacturing, and
these improve the ability to analyze future manufacturing.
Since this era, Digital manufacturing has become a science including a wide range of sections of
science such as information science, engineering science and so on rather than a only technology.
(Zode.z et al, 2011: 2)
Donn.S (2014) said that as this technique has developed, it gave us numerous benefits in produce

Firstly, using digital manufacturing could prevent waste of energy and materials as this process
does not use unnecessary things rather than mass production.

Structure, Sign And Play On The Discourse Of Human Sciences
Derrida: Structure, sign and play in the discourse of human sciences.
While understanding Derrida, many scholars consider early life of Derrida as a marginalized
European and being a Jew has special significance1. He later theorized that marginalization in
terms of absence , a loaded term in Derrida s works which we will visit later in this chapter. It was a
high time for existentialism, phenomenology and structuralism represented many renowned thinkers
like Husserl, Sartre, Strauss, and others. While the concern of structural linguistics was to formulate
scientific understanding of language as structured expression/entity, others were skeptic about
fundamental presuppositions of neutral binaries, the virtuality of the center and who rejected
subjective humanism of existentialists.
Deconstruction is literary technique derived by Derrida to show that there are many unquestioned
metaphysical notions that we use in structured language, and arbitrary hierarchy is maintained
between various binaries. Speaking in terms of linguistics, relation between signified and signifier
is anything but neutral, as it privileges one constituent of binary over other. For example, privilege
of speaking voice over written text, privilege of presence over absence, privilege of masculine over
feminine and so on. Thus for Derrida logocentrism is invariably present in the history of western
metaphysics which somewhere privileges author over his text.

Difference Between The Ratio And The Dividend Ratio
Probability Ratios
Garners Platoon Mental Health Care s ratios illustrate that it is more profitable than the average
in its industry (Cornett, Adair, Nofsinger, 2015). Its profit margin, BEP, ROE, and ROA are all
considerably higher than its industry figures. However, the dividend payout ratio is lower than
that of the industry which is not necessarily a bad thing because you typically want this number to
be lower than higher (Holt, n.d.). This indicates that the company is keeping more money than
paying out for future development or plans (Cornett et al., 2015). A lucrative company that keeps
its profits expands its level of equity capital as well as its own value (Cornett et al., 2015, p. 88).
Liquidity Ratios
All three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, it is producing fewer dollars of sales per dollar of inventory (Cornett et al., 2015). Garners
has to pay more in storage than its competitors since it is taking them longer to turn their inventory
over.
Garners accounts receivable management ratios appear to be lower than its industry average which
is an indication of good management since it desires to receive payment sooner than the industry
average (Cornett, Adair, Nofsinger, 2015). The company could have too much control on its
crediting terms, and might look into decreasing its crediting procedure slightly; however, for the
most part, the company is doing well in collecting payments.
The average payment period is 40.9 days higher than the industry average, and its accounts payable
turnover is 2.59 times; therefore, providing that the company is paying its bills on time, Garners is
reducing opportunity costs due to its debt management (Cornett, Adair, Nofsinger, 2015).
Garners fixed asset ratio is .25 below the industry average which could indicate that management is
not using its assets to its fullest. However, since Garners total asset turnover ratio is slightly higher
than the industry average, this number shows that Garners management is using its assets accurately.
Debt Ratio

New Atlantis Salomon s House Summary
On page 58 of New Atlantis Salomon s House is described as an institution, dedicated to the
study of the works and creatures of God. The purpose of the society is to discover and explore
the true nature of all things. This is accomplished through the ordinance by which ships are sent
out on voyages from the island. These ships sail to other countries collecting new knowledge of
science, art, and manufacturing. Therefore, according to the priest, Salomon s House functions as
a center of trade, not of commodities, but of knowledge of God and his creation. Later in the
work, on page 71, the ends of Salomon s House are stated as being, the knowledge of Causes, and
secret motions of things; and the enlarging of the bounds of Human Empire, to

The World Is Not Short On Food
The causes of poverty are very complex and there isn t just one single solution to fix it.
However, the problems could generally be reduced by equal distribution of the basic resources
such as water, food and land. These basic human needs can be met by doing simple suggesting
such as having the country invests in seeds, irrigation and tools for people to grow and harvest
foods. Fixing the education systems and meeting the needs of local communities that can t afford
to go to school providing the knowledge. Providing advice and marketing encouragement to
those countries that want to improve and be involved. With such basic skills and knowledge a
country would be about to provide the basic needs for its own people. The world is not short on
food. Many of the developed countries have enough of it, but people in the third world countries
are suffering because they are unable to gain the access to the food, water and land or unfortunately
can t afford to purchase it or make it.
Economist, Jeffery Sachs has observed the water crisis in Africa have developed what they call the
water poverty trap. Sachs says that the developed crisis is unique not because it s the poorest
region in the world but because it s the only major region that has a negative growth in the income
per capita in his study he conducted. Its correlates with the poverty of the region and the lack of
water that leads to the loss of food, the cause of many deadly diseases and unfinished education;

Leadership Styles Of Robert Horton
Leadership Styles BP
Robert Horton was selected as the new Chief Executive officer in 1989:
Horton took the company through a period of restructuring and was accused of a number of poor
decisions including inconsistent planning, diversification and subsequent divestments, shift away
from its US operations, emphasizing high risk exploration in the North Sea, and continuous
downsizing. The result was a demoralized workforce, the company s first ever reported quarterly
loss during 1991 and out of control debt. Horton was forced out in a boardroom coup in 1992. His
job was split in two and David Simon was appointed the Chief Executive. (O Regan, Ghobadian,

Horton was forced out in a boardroom coup in 1992. His job was split in two and David Simon was
appointed the Chief Executive. He immediately cut the dividend in two, and the share price
plummeted but Simon established the situation by changing management style and culture. (O
Regan, Ghobadian, 2010).
Horton may have been suffering from a blind spot in his leadership skills. Daft covers the
definition of blind spots as characteristics or habits that people don t recognized as problems but
which limit their effectiveness and hinder their career success (Daft, 2015 p. 101). Even though
his goals made sense to him as the right thing for the company, he had obligations to the
employees and at the end of all the cuts, his current employees seemed to suffer the most. The next
leader in line had a more innovative sense of where he should take the company. Leadership takes
skill. John Browne was appointed CEO in 1995. The operator of a two pipeline company, was
now the leader of a globally known business (O Regan, Ghobadian, 2010). Browne was known for
taking advantage of the low cost of oil around that time and using it to merge the company with
other oil companies playing the field at that time (O

Cause happiness is made for YOU, just take a bite and see. This relates so well to baking. Some
people may not be able to connect happiness and baking. That just means they ve have never felt

Happiness by George Savige relates so well to bakingand how I feel when I do it.
Just do your best and smile a lot. You ll keep an even keel. This metaphor is so true in baking

Bettelheim s Report
While many individuals have made significant contributions to psychoanalysis and the field of
psychology, Sigmund Freud has consistently been referred to as the father of psychoanalysis.
Moreover, his contributions came at a time where mental health treatment was highly primitive and
clinicians lacked insight and awareness about mental health treatments. However, because Freud s
native language was German, some individuals would argue that the true essence of his theories,
ideas, treatments, and concepts were lost once his books, papers, etc. were translated into English
and other languages. Specifically, Bettelheim (1983) explained his perspective about why Freud s
work, in his opinion, lost its true meaning after being translated. Therefore,... Show more content on

translations of Freud s work, Bettelheim s (1983) approach was hard for me to follow and support.

translators deliberately choose to translate Freud s work differently than the German

Dear Sir or Madam
I am writing this letter in order to turn your attention to two different sites on the Isle of Wight. I
have been contracted by DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food Rural Affairs) to assess the
current state of the southern coast of the island. The Isle of Wight is always susceptible to
landslides and coastal erosion. Hence investigations need to be done regularly in order to minimise
the negative impacts of these events. The sites I will be talking about include:
1.Alum Bay
2.Hanover Point
Alum Bay
Alum Bay is situated on the west coast of the Isle of Wight within close proximity with the
Needles (rock formation). The bay is famous for its multi coloured sand cliffs, which make it a
perfect tourist attraction as well as a point of interest for geologists. There is a series of
vertically bedded soft sand and clays, which are weak rocks due to being geologically very
recent. The vertical beds are formed over time due to tectonic plates pushing into each other (in
this case the African plate pushing into the Eurasian plate). The rock bed started off horizontally
and due to plate pressure, the distance between one side of the crust to the other was shortened and
hence a vertical bed was formed in the middle.
Just through searching for Alum Bay on Bing maps it is possible to spot problems straightaway.

Prairie Vole
Anacker and colleagues (2011) investigated the effect of peer interaction on alcohol consumption in
prairie voles. This study sought to determine whether prairie voles would change their alcohol
consumption to match that of a partner. Briefly, animals were isolated for four days with access to
10% ethanol and water and labeled high, medium, and low drinkers based on the amount of ethanol
they consumed. Prairie voles were then housed with a same sex animal of the opposite drinking
level, with a wire mesh divider allowing them to have separate water and ethanol. Following a
period of four days, voles were again isolated to determine if any changes in drinking behavior
would continue in isolation. Results of this study indicate that prairie... Show more content on

For example, this was another study that used animals that had been isolated for a number of days.
While the reason for isolating the animals was fully explained, the stress from isolation could still
have affected results. Future studies will need to take this into account and investigate the effect of
stress on alcohol consumption in different housing conditions for these animals. Another limitation
was that, while ethanol preference and intake in comparison with total fluid intake was recorded,
these measurements were not reported in the study. While alcohol preference ratios were given to
determine which animals would be labeled high and low drinkers, the actual amount of ethanol
the animals consumed in relation to total fluid was not reported. This is a flaw, as it is necessary
to understand just how much of each substance the animals are drinking in relation to one another.
In the future, total fluid consumption for animals needs to be reported. A final limitation was that
it was not mentioned whether siblings were used in the experiment. Following weaning, animals
were housed with siblings until they were used in the study. The use of multiple siblings in the
experimental groups could have added more animals to the study, as well as added information
about the effect of genetics on drinking, as there is a genetic influence on drinking behavior and,
due to being from outbred colonies, prairie voles exhibit great genetic variability. Future studies
will need to address whether or not siblings are used. Despite the study s limitations, however, this
was the first study to provide evidence that not only could housing condition affect the drinking
level of voles, but the intake of one vole could influence the drinking level of a partner. The
findings of this study suggest that peer interactions do indeed affect drinking behavior in this
species, and that prairie voles can and do alter their drinking level to better match

Collaborative Family Law
If you are concerned about the adversarial nature of divorce, you are not alone. Taking your
divorce to court can be emotionally hard for you and your family and can put a strain on your
financial resources. Fortunately, there is a way to execute your divorce without posing you and
your spouse against each other. Collaborative family lawis a form of alternative dispute resolution.
A collaborative dissolution is one where two spouses work together with the help of a team of
divorceprofessionals to form a settlement agreement. It allows the spouses to by pass the litigation
process by providing the professional guidance needed to settle their divorce in a fair and respectful
manner.
What Are the Benefits of a Collaborative Dissolution?
Working with, rather than against, your spouse has several advantages. It allows you and your
spouse to be in command of your divorce, as opposed to allowing the judge to make the important
decisions for you. A collaborative dissolution can also help you and your spouse develop and
maintain the ability to respectfully communicate after the divorce. Respectful communication is
helpful if you have minor children still in your care. Honesty and full disclosure are essential to
the process, making it easier for both spouses to reach an agreement based off of the important

The Native American Reservations Imagine being told that if you migrate to a certain location you

the American government promised the Native Americans. A promise that wasn t granted. Many
reservations have actually created a sense of confinement and detachment. The reservations have
limited resources which separates them from the American Culture and society. This is shown
through the laws we ve passed to aid them, and the battle for other native Americans to stand up for
their rights. Also their constant struggle for justice. Native Americans have been widely ignored.
Their past and current struggles they face. Most Americans know all about know the happy Native

Violence In Anil s Ghost
Anil s Ghost Portfolio
Violence is a theme seen throughout the world in all forms of media and literature. As a society
we are exposed to violence so much that people s biggest fears are that they will become fully
desensitized to the violence. Many are at this point where violence is as emotional , but some
forms of violence are still so disturbing they transcend all levels of desensitization. Some examples
are exhibited in Anil s Ghost. By Michael Ondaatje. All forms of violence are disturbing, but some,
even if they seem pretty tame when explained are increasingly disturbing when put into context of
the novel. Though, many see violence against a character who a reader is emotionally invested in is

Anil s thought process makes this story excel. Though, the story does jump around and is hard
to understand the writing style is very concise and is easy to understand. Every sense is
explained, and this adds to the emotion of the story. The extreme detail makes the story
intensely disturbing in some areas. Ondaatje s writing style instill a theme of death in the story
not only relating to the random murders seen throughout the book, but also by giving life to the
bodies that are being examined in the story. There is a scene in the book where a leaf falls into
the ribcage of sailor and represents the beating heart. This small detail helps reinforce the fact
that sailer and the other bodies in the story are real characters and actually effect the story. The
novel only asks for your attention because the story requires a lot of it. Every sentence builds a
scene then it quickly changes. This is also the case when we have a chance to listen to Anil and

the term skin tags , however, this is a common phenomenon. Flaps of tissues which protrudes
from the surface of the skin are called skin tags and are usually present around the eyelids,
armpits or neck. These skin tags which hang off the skin have different sizes, with the help of a
stalk they remains attached to the skin. They are also called skin tabs or barnacles, they are
harmless having no direct ill effect on your health in any way. Most of the time they match your ...

The flow of blood into and out of the skin tag will be stopped by this procedure resulting it to
disappear in a few days. Since it is almost impossible for the person who suffers from anal skin tag
to get a proper view of this part of the skin, thus, a friend s help or a family member s help is
necessary.
It is to be noted that despite of using all these methods for removing rectal tags, be it cosmetic
procedure or home remedies, it is very important to maintain proper hygiene without which these
skin anal tags might get infected.
Are anal tags the cause of any health complications?
No, as already mentioned above anal tags are harmless, but if they get ruptured from anal
intercourse or by passing a hard stool, they can get infected which can further lead to lots of health
complications. Although they are not contagious but if they gets inflamed, or gets injured they can
take serious shapes.
Anal tags are not risky to health but causes problems in maintaining cleanliness. Skin tags by
trapping moistures causes irritation. You must visit a doctor for your anal tags in order to be
ensured that they are harmless and are not malignant. If your anal skin tags don t indicate any other
medical condition, they are not harmful in

A Report On Southwest Airlines
operated. During this time, travel agent fees were going through the roof and reserving an airline
ticket was a complicated, drawn out process. To counter this, Southwest implemented its own
reservation system tailored to their own needs, which also included the industry s first paperless
ticketing system; but this wasn t the end of IT innovation from Southwest Airlines. In 1995,
Southwest.com was launched, and the online ticketing and reservation system was launched in
1996. Soon thereafter, Southwest Airlines ticket sales were primarily coming from their online
reservation system (70%). By the late 90 s, Southwest.com was the most visited airlinewebsite [4].
By the start of the millennium, Southwest airlines had already mastered another IT milestone
which is still in use to this very day: allowing the passenger to print their own boarding vouchers
and allowing passengers to self check in on their own computer even before arriving at the airport
[4]! By implementing these two features on the Southwest website, the airline was able to reduce
the number of customer service agents at check in counters and allowed customers to spend
minimal time waiting at an airport [2]. This increases both passenger and staff efficiency, making
the mundane task of waiting around at an airport virtually a thing of the past.
Industry Analysis:Applying the Porter model to Southwest Airlines, we can see airline that is
surrounded by fierce competition and costs [4]. For intra industry

Dorian Gray Decay
Living in a world to full of the appearance and stereotype of being beautiful can completely
destroy one s self esteem, and even their own life. In Oscar Wilde s novel, The Picture of Dorian
Gray, he uncovers how curiosity, hypocrisy, and vanity lead someone into their own demise. By
looking at Dorian Gray s actions that revolve around beauty, it is evident that vanity is the largest
contributing factor in Dorian s corruption and subsequent downfall, thus demonstrating how
focusing on only one aspect of life can lead to immorality and decay of character. The decay of
Dorian s character begins with his initial meeting of Lord Henry, where he speaks at length of

The Importance Of Superstitions In Sports
One doesn t acquire superstitions, curses, or obsession out of nowhere towards a sports team. It s
something that s involuntarily part of someone when they participate in these gatherings with other
sports fans. Having a passion specifically for a team could get a crowd riled up, so when they
begin to lose, people try to generalize what could have caused the circumstance.
Fear of one s team being in a losing streak, who never seem to win, sports fans try to hold on to a
sense of hope and something to believe in that could explain the reasoning as to why they haven t
won for a period of time. However, there is no logical evidence that superstitious or curses are the
cause of a team lost in a game.
Being a fan of a sports team, specifically baseball, could result in being prone to believing the
curses or superstitious that comes with the team when they have lost. People are always trying to
fill in the gaps of what could cause such a loss, and when they can t find a legitimate reason they
direct their attention to superstition. Many attribute it to events that occurred earlier that could be
the cause of a team losing, even though the event could have no relation to the outcome of the
game. Before the Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016, ending the 108 year old drought that
began in 1908, a curse began to surface called the Curse of the Billy Goat. When a Cubs fan was

Social Networking And Social Media
Social networking sites create an unspoken competition between users which will cause them to
experience low self esteem. For instance, people compete for social capital: relationships with
people among a society. Jacob Silverman stated, If I don t get ten faves in the first three minutes
after tweeting something, I ll probably just delete it, an amateur comedian told the wall street
journal...What the comedian really fears is the loss of followers and social capital (Silverman 25).
When people post on social networking sites and their tweet, status, or picture doesn t evoke a

unnoticed fear causes a decrease in self esteembecause the author... Show more content on

A result of this is people are now constantly comparing themselves to others on social networking
sites. When people begin comparing themselves to others it lowers the respect they have for
themselves and causes feelings of envy towards others.
Social media is a false depiction of real life, and those who do not realize this will face a decline
in their self esteem. One reason for this is social media users have the option of filtering their
profiles to appear perfect. According to Amy Gonzales and Jeffery Handcock, people s social
media accounts are a representation of who they are. People who compare their profiles to those
who use filters on their profiles tend to experience a decrease in self esteem (Gonzales and
Handcock 82). The use of filtering is a feature of all social networking sites that allows users to
create a false representation, a representation that is an illusion of who they really are. Although
filtering can be as simple as deleting negative feedback from others, the most commonly seen
case of filtering is when people use them on their photos to appear more beautiful. Too many
people do not realize that their seemingly perfect image is not reality and try to compare
themselves to something that is unachievable in the real world. This causes the people who do not
edit their profiles to feel a decrease in their self confidence. Social media causes people to generate
fake connections which can easily

Biblical Allusions in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald tells the story of a world lost to superficiality and greed.
Falsehood and deception are the currency which fuels the characters in the novel. Dwelling in this
fallen world, Fitzgerald has placed a fallen god. Gatsby is bathed in descriptions that identify him
as the Son of God. Fitzgeraldmakes a conscious effort to clothe this character with imagery and
actions to make him the patron deity of this fallen world, but Gatsbyis too much enveloped by his
surroundings to save them and is consumed in the attempt. Despite the biblicalallusions, strong
images and explicit statements identifying Gatsby with Christ, the prevailing tone of the novel
prevents him from being a Christ figure.

22:14). At the party, one of the girls states that Gatsby doesn t want trouble with anybody (48).
Jesus described himself as gentle and lowly in heart and commanded his followers to turn the
other cheek (Mt. 11:29, 5:29). When Nick prepares to leave the party, he looks for Gatsby to
apologize for not having known him in the garden (57). These words echo two major biblical
images. First, Adam hides from God in the Garden of Eden. Even more closely tied to this image
is the scene at the empty tomb where Mary Magdalene mistakes the risen Jesus for the gardener.
Gatsby s mysterious origins allude to the confusion about Jesus authority. Tom asks where is he
from, I mean? And what does he do? (53) When Jesus preaches in the synagogue at Nazareth, the
people ask Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? (Mt. 13:34) On at least
two occasions, Gatsby tells Nick that they are going up : first in the hydroplane and later when
they ride up to New York for lunch (57, 68). This ascendant diction suggests that, like Jesus, Gatsby
had come from God and was going to God (Jn. 13:3). It also follows the biblical convention by
which all travel to Jerusalem is described by the Hebrew word aliah : to go up. Fitzgerald even put
Jesus words on Gatsby s lips, as in the car when Gatsby asks Nick what s your opinion of me
anyhow? (69) This echoes Jesus journeying question of his

The Issue Of Tort Reform
Tort reform is a term propagated by companies in the tobacco and asbestos industries vulnerable to
legal actions seeking damages for the impacts to their products. Advocates use the terminology to
limit the ability and potential damages available to individuals who take legal actions against
companies. In 2002, the consumer advocacy organization Center for Justice and Democracy
investigated the U.S. tort reformand saw that the rally was actually a massive national PR effort

Perhaps one way to analyze the situation is through concepts of loss shifting and loss spreading. I
would anticipate such insurers directly or directly support tort reform aimed at limiting the

of the right to sue in tort, because that is part of their business. (Journal of Patient Safety) Anyone

improvements collaborative law processes might bring.
Both the loss shifting and the loss spreading scenarios are vulnerable to exploitation by players
motivated by greed or factors of self advancement. In an ideal world, a civil society could rationally
and effectively operate either or both loss shifting or loss spreading models in a sustainable way.
This seems unlikely to eventuate in current circumstances, unless there was a momentous shift in

That is beyond our ability to do, yet it is something that I can understand. Islam, Judaism and
Christianity share the main concept that God sent prophets to guide their fellow people.
However, Islam also differs from these two faiths on important aspects related to prophet hood.
For instance, Islam teaches that all prophets of God were of high moral character and did not
succumb to the sins their people committed. For example, Islam exonerates Aaron even though
the Old Testament depicts him as someone who worshipped the golden calf. I believe in the
prophets because we are obliged to believe in and honor all of the prophets, and to testify that
prophet hood has been completed with the coming of Prophet Muhammad. In Islam, the purpose of
life is to live in a way that is pleasing to Allah so that one may gain Paradise. When a person
reaches puberty, an account of each person s deeds is opened, and this will be used at the Day of
Judgment to determine his eternal fate. I believe in this because just as our physical actions and
habits affect the body and leave their impressions upon it, so does the good or evil of our deeds
affect the spirit and leave an impression upon it. Sometimes we can even feel something of the

Who Is Winston Smith A Hero
The journey of a hero usually begins with downfall and ends with success. However, with
Winston it is the other way around, his journey starts at success and ends with downfall. But that
shouldn t unqualify him from being a hero. Winston Smith is the hero of the novel because he
shows courage, and has a strong mentality and he continuously looks past limitations. He basically
was willing to do anything for what he believed in, an example of this could be when he made a
promise to O Brien saying that he was going to do anything for the brotherhood even if it meant he
had to hurt children.
Winston could not defeat the Party, however he makes small acts which rebel against the party
and by doing this he is trying to be a leader to show the other members of the party that something
needs to be done. He still proves that he is a questing hero through his courage, strong mentality
and his ability to look past his limitations.
Even though Winston did do some bad like telling setting the rats on Julia because of his fear and
suddenly loving Big Brother at the end, which most people consider hypocritical. But why not
look at the positive? He repeatedly wrote down with Big Brother , and he went about his love
affair with Julia which by the way he barely knew. He tries and see the party for what it is, and of
course it certainly wasn t any good, he thinks very much and philosophies a lot, but that certainly
does not make his live better. He s a hero because he cares about the people who he sees around
him, and he tries to help them in the best way he can considering the fact that his health isn t so
good. Just imagine what he was going through it must ve been extremely hard to mentally be going
against something or someone when everyone else who surrounds supports them or the ideas that
they represent.

he shows that he has a strong mentality is; I think I exist, he said wearily. I am conscious of my

Six Types Of A Chemical Reaction
Some people may ask what exactly is a chemical reaction? A chemical reaction is a process that
involves rearrangement of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance. There is six types of
chemical reactions named Synthesis, Decomposition, Single Replacement, Double Replacement,
Combustion, and Acid base reactions.
Synthesis is when two or more reactants combine to form one product. Synthesis always forms a
compound. The equation for synthesis is A + B AB. Water, which is H2O is a good example of a
synthesis reaction. An example of a synthesis reaction is when a metal or nonmetal reacts with
oxygen to form an oxide. One way that synthesis reactions connect to the real world is salt. Salt is
a synthesis reaction of NaCl which is sodium chloride. The equation would be Sodium (Na) +
Chlorine (Cl) Sodium Chloride (NaCl) and this would make it a synthesis reaction.
The opposite of a synthesis reaction would be a decomposition reaction. A decomposition
reaction is when one reactant is broken down into two or more products. This means a compound
is broken down into separate products. The equation would be the opposite of synthesis which is
AB A + B. An example of a decomposition reaction is 2H2O 2H2 + O2. The lab we did in chemistry
class called Electrolysis of Water is a good example of decomposition because decomposition was
produced by passing an electric current through the substance in the container with the screw and
nail inside which represent the

Analysis Of Passing By Nella Larsen
the novel Passing, Nella Larsen explores the consequences and disadvantages of two African
Americans living in a segregated society. The reconnection between Irene Redfield and Clare
Kendry illustrates two different paths in regards to how they portray themselves in their own
community. Larsen displays Clare Kendry as a light skinned women who tolerates her husband s
racial comments in order to live in a higher society. Clare s decision to secretly hide her racial
background because of the desire of wanting to be accepted by individuals of an upper social class
greatly affects Irene. Clare s determination of overcoming racial barriers by passing as a white
individual is similar to the Rhinelander/Jones case. In 1924 the son of the wealthiest families in
New York married the daughter of a taxicab driver. However, Leonard Rhinelander appealed to
have is marriage annulled due to believing his wife to be white when he married her (135).
Rhinelander suspected Alice Jones was hiding her racial background by passing as a white
individual. As the trial progressed it was concluded that that Rhinelander had an understanding of
her racial background before marriage was an option between the two. The Rhinelander/Jones case
demonstrates how Clare Kendry decided to pass as a white individual in order to obtain wealth and
social status by marrying a white male. The three criticism texts chosen demonstrates how racial
passing between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry contributes to social status.
In Nella Larsen s Passing: A Problem of Interpretation, Claudia Tate argues that raceis not the
novels foremost concern, but is merely a mechanism for setting the story in motion (344). Tate s
decision to focus on the psychological ambiguity (343) of the novel forbids her to elaborate on
the relation between race and social class. As a result, I disagree with certain statements from
Tate s argument due to the lack of acknowledging the issue regarding race and social class. Tate
initially claims that Irene s understanding of race becomes a concern when the impending
exposure of Clare s racial identity threatens to hasten the disruption of Irene s domestic security
(Tate 344). However, Irene s fear of being spotted as a

Over the year s man and woman conflict have been a normal part of life. Where there are
relationships there will be conflict. Researcher Anna Snyder says A critical component of
successful male female relationships is the ability of the couples to handle conflict (Snyder 10).
Resolving conflict, or not can be vital for the fifty fifty survival rate of marriages. In the two

Effects of Disclosing other s Privacy
Privacy refers to the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information about
themselves and thereby reveal themselves selectively. The boundaries and content of what is
considered private differ among cultures and individuals, but share basic common themes. Privacy
related to anonymity, the wish to remain unnoticed or unidentified in the public realm. When
something is private to a person, it usually means being considered inherently special or personally
sensitive. The degree to which private information is exposed therefore depends on how the public
will receive this information. In addition, Privacy can be seen as an aspect of security, in which
trade offs between the interests of one group and another can become particularly clear.
Since netizens deem that their freedom of speech is valued over other s personal privacy, the
phenomenon of publicizing privacy prevails on the Internet. However, this behavior poses harmful
effects on the real society.
First, disclosure of personal privacy has a profound effect on victims and their surrounding people s

Overt And Covert Facial Recognition Essay

the brain is able to recognize facial features both consciously and unconsciously (Schweinberger

Each study discussed above examines the model of facial recognition and its relation to overt
and covert recognition. Covert facial recognition is the unconscious recognition of familiar faces
(Maureen, 2016). Whereas, overt facial recognition is the conscious recognition (Maureen, 2016).
There has been a vast amount of research on the topic in an attempt to discover exactly how the
recognition of facial features/expressions take place in the brain and how it can be linked to
certain neurological disorders. Overall, results from each study examined tend to suggest that overt
and covert facial recognition share the same area of the brain. Research by Farah and colleagues
did not support this idea however, they do not deny it either. Rather, they suggest the possibility of
separate forms of prosopagnosia, one causing damage to both overt and covert facial recognition
while the other(s) cause damage to only one of the functions. This study, however, is also much
older than the others examined which could be a result of lack of information that overtime was

in time result in damage to covert facial recognition. Thus meaning if one is damaged it is only a
matter of time before the other starts to suffer. However, with it not being the case one hundred

being a dispositional concept, intelligence is an episodic concept that refers neither to dispositions
nor to knowing how, but to a fashion or style of proceeding whose significance is adverbial. Being
derivative from the function of the adverb intelligently, the concept of intelligence does not have
essential reference to specific verbs but rather to the manner or style of proceeding of nearly any
verb that is descriptive of the proceedings of an agent. Intelligence words are expressive of a
manner of doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dualist s reaction was to withdraw from the dispositional analysis and to claim that intelligence
can only make sense when it is ultimately linked to an alternative concept which presumably has
reference to a process (the existence of which may be ascertained by a subjective avowal: intent,
deliberation, reflective choice, etc.).
Whether this maneuver avoids the Rylean critique is subject to serious doubt. Each new term may
itself have a problem concerning the metaphysical status of its referent: whether it is a physical or a
spiritual process.
Another problem with this approach is that it often makes the concept of intelligence dependent on
factors that may have no more than a casual relation to its meaning: a contextual connection, for
example.
While a dispositional analysis of intelligence would effectively rescue it from entrapment inside the
ghost in the machine it would fail to do the concept the justice that the dualist seeks for it, and that
is to make the observation that it appears to be more an episodic than a dispositional concept.
It is in this connection that some philosophers take a critical view of Ryle s analysis. Peter Thomas
Geach, for instance, claims that reports of mental acts are categorical and are not hypothetical or
semi hypothetical statements about overt behavior. He believes the dispositional account of
psychological concepts to be on a level with the statement that opium puts people to sleep

Negotiations With The Dispute Between The Disputants
Problem Solving First of all, in order to solve any problem there need to be negotiation techniques
established to deal with the dispute between both of the disputants. First, a proper negotiation
technique must include the creation of a mutual frame. This frame consist of setting a good tone
during the negotiators opening statement. This tone can have two different effects, either there is
cooperation or competition (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p 159). There is nothing worse than having set
everything up and because of the tone that the mediator has everything fall apart. Second, there
needs to be an establishment of criteria in order to have both the disputants establish cooperation.
When criteria is established, neither of the disputants can establish their own competiveness,
however, when a disputant does establish competitiveness, it is the job of the mitigation to move
out of competitiveness and move the discussion to determine the facts (McCorkle Reese, 2015,
p159). Some ways to assist the mediator from successfully steering away from competiveness is by
asking questions that remind both disputants that the reason they are there is to solve the problem
and not cause more tension. Additionally, while some negotiators might employ brainstorminginto
the techniques, this is considered optional. However, I do feel that having both disputants
brainstorm can assist then with considering both side of the issue when ideas are expressed freely.
According to McCorkle and

The War Of 1905 And The United States
After the expansion of power in the federal government in domestic affairs, the Progressive
presidents did not want to project American power outside of the borders just yet. At first, their
interventions were primarily in the Western Hemisphere. Between 1901 and 1920, U.S. marines
landed in Caribbean countries over twenty times. These ships were sent off to establish stable
access to raw materials like sugar and bananas, and for the bankers with loans to local governments
that might not be repaid. Theodore Rooseveltdivided the world into civilized and uncivilized
nations. Roosevelt became extremely active in international diplomacy, more so than his
predecessors. For example, he helped to negotiate a settlement of the Russo Japanese War of
1905, for this he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Roosevelt declared that the Untied States did
not have the slightest desire to expand territory, however, he engaged an intervention in Central
America. His first major action in the region was the separation of Panama from Columbia in order
to construct a canal that would link the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. This idea was long before
thought about in history. Since Roosevelt was an an advocate for the American naval development,
he was convinced that a canal would prove to be prosperous to the movement of naval and
commercial ships between the two oceans. The construction of the Panama Canalwas not available
until the establishment of their independence from Columbia.

Witness for the Prosecution
The mystery, Witness for the Prosecution , was produced in 1957 by Arthur Hornblow, Jr. and
directed by Billy Wilder. The two lead male actors were Tyrone Power as Leonard Vole and
Charles Laughton as Sir Wilfrid Robarts. The lead female actor was Marlene Dietrich as Christine
Helm. Witness for the Prosecution superbly demonstrated a realist view of the operating procedures
in a courtroom. The actors within the courtroom were easy to identify, and the steps transitioned
smoothly from the arrest to the reading of the verdict. The murder trial of Leonard Vole provided
realistic insight into how laws on the books are used in courtroom proceedings. With the inferior
elements noted, the superior element of the court system in Witness... Show more content on

The defense for Vole was nonexistent until a stranger provided damaging evidence against the
prosecution s most damaging witness.
For the defendant to be found guilty of murder, the burden is placed on the prosecutor to prove the
defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt (Neubauer Fradella, 2014, p. 33). In other words, the
prosecutor, Mr. Myer must present a strong case to satisfy the jury that charges against the
defendant are almost certainly true (Neubauer Fradella, 2014, p. 35). When the trial started, the
evidence was strong enough for a guilty verdict. The prosecution had three witnesses to support
the claim that Vole killed Emily French. The first witness, Inspector Hearne, provided the court
with blood evidence on the sleeve of Vole s jacket; however, during cross examination, Sir Wilfrid
disputed the evidence because Vole s blood type was not excluded as the donor. The second
witness was Janet McKenize, Mrs. French s hard of hearing housekeeper, who stated she heard Vole
and Mrs. French talking on the night of the murder; nevertheless, during cross examination, Sir
Wilfrid discredited her testimony when he proved to the jury that she was hard of hearing. The
climax of the prosecution came when Mr. Myers, after objections by Sir Wilfrid, called Christine
Helm, Vole s wife, to the stand. Christine was thought to be the wife of Vole but provided

Homosexuality In Tony Kushner s Angels In America
Homosexuality plays an important thematic role in Angels in America by Tony Kushner. This is
obvious; the play is about homosexuals during the AIDS epidemic in the 80 s. Not only is gayness
their lives, it also figures in as a distorted simulation of itself. In the postmodern era, identities have
become simulations of perceived actions instead of actual actions. Seen in rhetoric and in the play,
homosexualitybecomes associated with powerlessness, sin, and disease. Kushner s characters are
greatly affected by these stereotypes and false realities of their identities. We see the way
simulacra affects the characters of Roy, Joe, and Prior. Importantly, Prior suffers under a
simulation of homosexuality as an openly gay man with AIDS, while Roy and Joe cannot fully
identify as gay because of the implications they have been taught. Roy and Joe never know an
unmediated definition of homosexuality; it forever has a negative connotation of powerlessness or
sin. Prior is able to survive his disease and break away from the oppression of the simulacra. Tony
Kushner writes these stereotypes into the rhetoric of the play to dismantle the conceptions of
homosexuality. Kushner uses Roy, Joe, and Prior to present the effects of simulated identities in
Angels in America in order to complicate the metanarrative of AIDS... Show more content on

Due to the growing power and influence of the media, what people think is real is actually just a
representation, but they cannot separate or distinguish the two. This failure to separate reality from
imitation is an important aspect to simulacra. It makes it more powerful than a simple
representation. Simulacra become the reality. Dr. Dino Felluga, of Purdue University, talks about the

LGBTQ community can be tough for some people and characters in these books. Aristotle and

with coming of age experiences of teenagers and both books break stereotypical genderroles. In the
21st century people apart of the LGBTQ community can live a hard life like Aristotle and Leila

The Chile Of Peru And Chile
For the fault zone that I chose to research for this project, I chose the Peru Chile Trench, also
known as the Chile Subduction Megathrust and as the Atacama Trench. It is called that because
the area between Peru and Chile is called The Atacama , and such was the plate named. The Peru
Chile trench is located along the western coast of Peru and Chile. It marks the zone where the
Nazca plate is being subducted beneath the South American plate and is approximately 3,666 miles
long. (Britannica, p.1)
Located on the fault are sediments, amongst them are turbidites. Turbidites are areas of sediment

Therefore, there are many seismic events that have taken place on our geologic timeline and at the
same time shaped our historic timeline.
The most recent large scale earthquake along the Peru Chile Plate was the 16 September
earthquake, which happened in 2015. It measured an M 8.3, one of the largest on record. 5 were
killed, and over 1 million were evacuated from greatly affected areas. However, compared to other
earthquakes that have taken place in Chile, this one was moderate.
In 2010, an 8.8 Mw earthquake shook Chile. It was approximately 200 miles southwest of Chile
and was approximately 375 miles long. A 2014 study attributed the quake to immense water
pressure located between the two plates. The region was stricken by strong aftershocks for months
after the quake, many of a magnitude of 5.0 Mw or greater.
The Tsunami that took place after the initial quake was caused by a portion of seabed rupturing
upwards, and displacing a large portion of the water being displaced. This water traveled at 450
miles, at 8 feet tall, to the Chilean and Peruvian coast. Early viewers of the tsunami later reported
waves being up to 10 feet tall. This rupture was believed to be caused by 2 unusually dense pieces
of seabed that had been previously undetected by scientists, and consequently caused a large
displacement of water. There were also small ruptures of seismic

they need extra assistance. When cost is such a big factor on the type of care one may receive, is
a nursing home or assisted home care the best option for my loved one?

Information Technology Management
Chapter 1 1. How are information systems transforming business and what is their relationship to
globalization?
E mail, online conferencing, and cell phones have become essential tools for conducting business.
Information systems are the foundation of fast paced supply chains. The Internet allows many
businesses to buy, sell, advertise, and solicit customer feedback online. Organizations are trying to
become more competitive and efficient by digitally enabling their core business processes and
evolving into digital firms. The Internet has stimulated globalization by dramatically reducing the
costs of producing, buying, and selling goods on a global scale. New information system trends

Chapter 2 1. What are business processes? How are they related to information systems?
A business process is a logically related set of activities that defines how specific business tasks are
performed, and it represents a unique way in which an organization coordinates work, information,
and knowledge. Managers need to pay attention to business processes because they determine how
well the organization can execute its business, and they may be a source of strategic advantage.
There are business processes specific to each of the major business functions, but many business
processes are cross functional. Information systems automate parts of business processes, and they
can help organizations redesign and streamline these processes. 2. How do systems serve the
different management groups in a business?
Systems serving operational management are transaction processing systems (TPS), such as payroll
or order processing, that track the flow of the daily routine

  • 2. Philonous And Hylas Play Summary The dialogue begins with Philonous and Hylas, the protagonists, running into each other. Philonous is surprised to see Hylas awake so early, but Hylas seems mad. Hylas explains that he has been contemplating over crazy beliefs that some philosophers have; those who believe nothing at all, and those who believe everything. Hylas is scared that the philosophers will put thoughts in people s heads, eventually turning them against their own religion and beliefs. Philonous agrees with Hylas and explains how doesn t follow what he learned in school, rather he embraces common sense opinions. Hylas is relieved to find out Philonous doesn t believe in these insane thoughts (mind independent reality) that some of their friends do. Philonous explains that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Philonous now begins to explain how materialism can lead to skepticism. Philonous must now explain that there is no reason to believe in mind independent reality. Philonous introduces the argument from pleasure and pain as well as the argument of perceptual relativity. First, he makes Hylas admit that we can only sense sensible things, and that sensible things are nothing but groups of sensible qualities. Hylas hesitates, but Philonous reassures him. Philonous gives a cherry as an example; a small, red, sweet cluster, which in actuality could be something other than this. Philonous now introduces the idea of pain and pleasure. Philonous explains that pain is mind dependant, meaning that pain cannot exist if nobody is feeling it. The same goes with pleasure. Philonous then explains that this does not only apply to pain and pleasure, but to any sensible quality. First, Philonous tries to relate heat with pain. He says that inanimate objects cannot feel pain or pleasure; Matter is inanimate; Matter cannot feel pain nor pleasure; heat is a form of pain; therefore matter is incapable of feeling heat; This means heat is mind ... • 3. Factors Influencing Organisational Structure Essay Introduction The influence of factors on organizational structure and their impact on the organization has been in focus by researchers since many years. This paper reviews the literature and analyses the factors that influence the structure and design of organizations. Organizational structures are mainly grouped as functional and divisional structures on the basis of functions or jobs. The most important and powerful tool for enhancing performance in an organization is the organizational design although there is no perfect or unique design. Organizational change occurs when a company makes a shift from its present state to a desired state, which is necessary in today s competitive environment. Organizational Structure Organizational structure is the network of job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The factors that contribute to development of an organization include its size, technology human resources, production program and environmental requirements. The role of political environment is also stressed. For effective and also efficient utilization of resources, designing an ideal organizational structure is important. Some of the factors that affect the organizational structure are decentralization of decision making, customer interaction, value of innovation and marketing considerations. They can be grouped into two factors: internal that was from environment under the firm s control and external, that were not under the control of the firm. Today, companies require undergoing changes almost constantly to remain competitive. Globalization of markets and rapidly growing technology force organizations to respond in order to survive. The ultimate competitive organizational structure should be a flexible one and the design should influence competitive strengths. Mandatory Bargaining Definition According to Labor Relations (1958) mandatory subject of bargaining is noted by the Supreme Court that the area of mandatory collective bargaining includes subjects relating to wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment. Other subjects such as overtime pay, shift differentials, holiday pay, pensions, profit sharing plans, rental of company houses, grievance procedures, sick leave, work rules, seniority and promotion, compulsory retirement age, health care benefits, and management rights clauses are examples of mandatory subjects of bargaining. However, an employer cannot make changes in mandatory subjects for bargaining without first providing the union with an opportunity to bargain.Issues that have become mandatory subjects for bargaining have been evolving since the NLRA was passed. The US Supreme Court has identified two criteria for determining whether or not an issue represents a mandatory subject for bargaining: 1. Whether it is plainly germane to the working environment : and 2. Not among those managerial decisions which lie at the core of entrepreneurial control. History And Processes Of Digital Manufacturing A company called Stratasys said that Digital Manufacturing is a manufacturing method that supplements weaknesses of traditional production processes. It helps delivery times and production costs decrease with prototypes and final parts directly from CAD data while developing synchronical product quality. (Stratasys, unknown) As furniture industry becomes developed, digital manufacturing has taken a important place in the industry. Therefore, this essay will illustrate the history and processes of the manufacturing and features of objects that made through digital manufacturing. Zode.z, Shane.X and Dejun.C argued that From the period of 1980s, lots of new ways of digital manufacturing come out such as Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Automated Manufacturing . (Zode.z et al, 2011: 2) These new notions make it easier for us to analyze and predict the future of manufacturing, and these improve the ability to analyze future manufacturing. • 6. Structure, Sign And Play On The Discourse Of Human Sciences Derrida: Structure, sign and play in the discourse of human sciences. While understanding Derrida, many scholars consider early life of Derrida as a marginalized European and being a Jew has special significance1. He later theorized that marginalization in terms of absence , a loaded term in Derrida s works which we will visit later in this chapter. It was a high time for existentialism, phenomenology and structuralism represented many renowned thinkers like Husserl, Sartre, Strauss, and others. While the concern of structural linguistics was to formulate scientific understanding of language as structured expression/entity, others were skeptic about fundamental presuppositions of neutral binaries, the virtuality of the center and who rejected subjective humanism of existentialists. Deconstruction is literary technique derived by Derrida to show that there are many unquestioned metaphysical notions that we use in structured language, and arbitrary hierarchy is maintained between various binaries. Speaking in terms of linguistics, relation between signified and signifier is anything but neutral, as it privileges one constituent of binary over other. For example, privilege of speaking voice over written text, privilege of presence over absence, privilege of masculine over feminine and so on. Thus for Derrida logocentrism is invariably present in the history of western metaphysics which somewhere privileges author over his text. Derrida s method is to look for ... • 7. Difference Between The Ratio And The Dividend Ratio Probability Ratios Garners Platoon Mental Health Care s ratios illustrate that it is more profitable than the average in its industry (Cornett, Adair, Nofsinger, 2015). Its profit margin, BEP, ROE, and ROA are all considerably higher than its industry figures. However, the dividend payout ratio is lower than that of the industry which is not necessarily a bad thing because you typically want this number to be lower than higher (Holt, n.d.). This indicates that the company is keeping more money than paying out for future development or plans (Cornett et al., 2015). A lucrative company that keeps its profits expands its level of equity capital as well as its own value (Cornett et al., 2015, p. 88). Liquidity Ratios All three ... Garners has to pay more in storage than its competitors since it is taking them longer to turn their inventory over. Garners accounts receivable management ratios appear to be lower than its industry average which is an indication of good management since it desires to receive payment sooner than the industry average (Cornett, Adair, Nofsinger, 2015). The company could have too much control on its crediting terms, and might look into decreasing its crediting procedure slightly; however, for the most part, the company is doing well in collecting payments. The average payment period is 40.9 days higher than the industry average, and its accounts payable turnover is 2.59 times; therefore, providing that the company is paying its bills on time, Garners is reducing opportunity costs due to its debt management (Cornett, Adair, Nofsinger, 2015). Garners fixed asset ratio is .25 below the industry average which could indicate that management is not using its assets to its fullest. However, since Garners total asset turnover ratio is slightly higher than the industry average, this number shows that Garners management is using its assets accurately. Debt Ratio ... The purpose of the society is to discover and explore the true nature of all things. This is accomplished through the ordinance by which ships are sent out on voyages from the island. These ships sail to other countries collecting new knowledge of science, art, and manufacturing. However, the problems could generally be reduced by equal distribution of the basic resources such as water, food and land. These basic human needs can be met by doing simple suggesting such as having the country invests in seeds, irrigation and tools for people to grow and harvest foods. Fixing the education systems and meeting the needs of local communities that can t afford to go to school providing the knowledge. Providing advice and marketing encouragement to those countries that want to improve and be involved. With such basic skills and knowledge a country would be about to provide the basic needs for its own people. The world is not short on food. Many of the developed countries have enough of it, but people in the third world countries are suffering because they are unable to gain the access to the food, water and land or unfortunately can t afford to purchase it or make it. Economist, Jeffery Sachs has observed the water crisis in Africa have developed what they call the water poverty trap. Sachs says that the developed crisis is unique not because it s the poorest region in the world but because it s the only major region that has a negative growth in the income per capita in his study he conducted. Horton was forced out in a boardroom coup in 1992. His job was split in two and David Simon was appointed the Chief Executive. He immediately cut the dividend in two, and the share price plummeted but Simon established the situation by changing management style and culture. (O Regan, Ghobadian, 2010). Horton may have been suffering from a blind spot in his leadership skills. Daft covers the definition of blind spots as characteristics or habits that people don t recognized as problems but which limit their effectiveness and hinder their career success (Daft, 2015 p. 101). Even though his goals made sense to him as the right thing for the company, he had obligations to the employees and at the end of all the cuts, his current employees seemed to suffer the most. The next leader in line had a more innovative sense of where he should take the company. Leadership takes skill. John Browne was appointed CEO in 1995. • 12. Bettelheim s Report While many individuals have made significant contributions to psychoanalysis and the field of psychology, Sigmund Freud has consistently been referred to as the father of psychoanalysis. Moreover, his contributions came at a time where mental health treatment was highly primitive and clinicians lacked insight and awareness about mental health treatments. However, because Freud s native language was German, some individuals would argue that the true essence of his theories, ideas, treatments, and concepts were lost once his books, papers, etc. were translated into English and other languages. Specifically, Bettelheim (1983) explained his perspective about why Freud s work, in his opinion, lost its true meaning after being translated. Therefore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The On The Isle Of Wight Council 14 November 2016 FAO: Planning Officer Isle of Wight Council County Hall High Street Newport Isle of Wight PO30 1UD Dear Sir or Madam I am writing this letter in order to turn your attention to two different sites on the Isle of Wight. I have been contracted by DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food Rural Affairs) to assess the current state of the southern coast of the island. The Isle of Wight is always susceptible to landslides and coastal erosion. Hence investigations need to be done regularly in order to minimise the negative impacts of these events. The sites I will be talking about include: 1.Alum Bay 2.Hanover Point Alum Bay Alum Bay is situated on the west coast of the Isle of Wight within close proximity with the Needles (rock formation). The bay is famous for its multi coloured sand cliffs, which make it a perfect tourist attraction as well as a point of interest for geologists. There is a series of vertically bedded soft sand and clays, which are weak rocks due to being geologically very recent. The vertical beds are formed over time due to tectonic plates pushing into each other (in this case the African plate pushing into the Eurasian plate). The rock bed started off horizontally and due to plate pressure, the distance between one side of the crust to the other was shortened and hence a vertical bed was formed in the middle. Just through searching for Alum Bay on Bing maps it is possible to spot problems straightaway. There are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This study sought to determine whether prairie voles would change their alcohol consumption to match that of a partner. Briefly, animals were isolated for four days with access to 10% ethanol and water and labeled high, medium, and low drinkers based on the amount of ethanol they consumed. Prairie voles were then housed with a same sex animal of the opposite drinking level, with a wire mesh divider allowing them to have separate water and ethanol. Following a period of four days, voles were again isolated to determine if any changes in drinking behavior would continue in isolation. Results of this study indicate that prairie... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, this was another study that used animals that had been isolated for a number of days. While the reason for isolating the animals was fully explained, the stress from isolation could still have affected results. Future studies will need to take this into account and investigate the effect of stress on alcohol consumption in different housing conditions for these animals. Another limitation was that, while ethanol preference and intake in comparison with total fluid intake was recorded, these measurements were not reported in the study. While alcohol preference ratios were given to determine which animals would be labeled high and low drinkers, the actual amount of ethanol the animals consumed in relation to total fluid was not reported. This is a flaw, as it is necessary to understand just how much of each substance the animals are drinking in relation to one another. In the future, total fluid consumption for animals needs to be reported. A final limitation was that it was not mentioned whether siblings were used in the experiment. Following weaning, animals were housed with siblings until they were used in the study. The use of multiple siblings in the experimental groups could have added more animals to the study, as well as added information about the effect of genetics on drinking, as there is a genetic influence on drinking behavior and, due to being from outbred colonies, prairie voles exhibit great genetic variability. Future studies will need to address whether or not siblings are used. Despite the study s limitations, however, this was the first study to provide evidence that not only could housing condition affect the drinking level of voles, but the intake of one vole could influence the drinking level of a partner. The findings of this study suggest that peer interactions do indeed affect drinking behavior in this species, and that prairie voles can and do alter their drinking level to better match ... It s something that s involuntarily part of someone when they participate in these gatherings with other sports fans. Having a passion specifically for a team could get a crowd riled up, so when they begin to lose, people try to generalize what could have caused the circumstance. Fear of one s team being in a losing streak, who never seem to win, sports fans try to hold on to a sense of hope and something to believe in that could explain the reasoning as to why they haven t won for a period of time. However, there is no logical evidence that superstitious or curses are the cause of a team lost in a game. A result of this is people are now constantly comparing themselves to others on social networking sites. When people begin comparing themselves to others it lowers the respect they have for themselves and causes feelings of envy towards others. Social media is a false depiction of real life, and those who do not realize this will face a decline in their self esteem. One reason for this is social media users have the option of filtering their profiles to appear perfect. According to Amy Gonzales and Jeffery Handcock, people s social media accounts are a representation of who they are. People who compare their profiles to those who use filters on their profiles tend to experience a decrease in self esteem (Gonzales and Handcock 82). The use of filtering is a feature of all social networking sites that allows users to create a false representation, a representation that is an illusion of who they really are. Although filtering can be as simple as deleting negative feedback from others, the most commonly seen case of filtering is when people use them on their photos to appear more beautiful. Too many people do not realize that their seemingly perfect image is not reality and try to compare themselves to something that is unachievable in the real world. When Nick prepares to leave the party, he looks for Gatsby to apologize for not having known him in the garden (57). These words echo two major biblical images. First, Adam hides from God in the Garden of Eden. Even more closely tied to this image is the scene at the empty tomb where Mary Magdalene mistakes the risen Jesus for the gardener. Gatsby s mysterious origins allude to the confusion about Jesus authority. Tom asks where is he from, I mean? And what does he do? However, with Winston it is the other way around, his journey starts at success and ends with downfall. But that shouldn t unqualify him from being a hero. Winston Smith is the hero of the novel because he shows courage, and has a strong mentality and he continuously looks past limitations. He basically was willing to do anything for what he believed in, an example of this could be when he made a promise to O Brien saying that he was going to do anything for the brotherhood even if it meant he had to hurt children. Winston could not defeat the Party, however he makes small acts which rebel against the party and by doing this he is trying to be a leader to show the other members of the party that something needs to be done. He still proves that he is a questing hero through his courage, strong mentality and his ability to look past his limitations. Even though Winston did do some bad like telling setting the rats on Julia because of his fear and suddenly loving Big Brother at the end, which most people consider hypocritical. But why not look at the positive? He repeatedly wrote down with Big Brother , and he went about his love affair with Julia which by the way he barely knew. He tries and see the party for what it is, and of course it certainly wasn t any good, he thinks very much and philosophies a lot, but that certainly does not make his live better. • 35. Six Types Of A Chemical Reaction Some people may ask what exactly is a chemical reaction? A chemical reaction is a process that involves rearrangement of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance. There is six types of chemical reactions named Synthesis, Decomposition, Single Replacement, Double Replacement, Combustion, and Acid base reactions. Synthesis is when two or more reactants combine to form one product. Synthesis always forms a compound. The equation for synthesis is A + B AB. Water, which is H2O is a good example of a synthesis reaction. An example of a synthesis reaction is when a metal or nonmetal reacts with oxygen to form an oxide. One way that synthesis reactions connect to the real world is salt. Salt is a synthesis reaction of NaCl which is sodium chloride. The equation would be Sodium (Na) + Chlorine (Cl) Sodium Chloride (NaCl) and this would make it a synthesis reaction. The opposite of a synthesis reaction would be a decomposition reaction. A decomposition reaction is when one reactant is broken down into two or more products. This means a compound is broken down into separate products. The equation would be the opposite of synthesis which is AB A + B. An example of a decomposition reaction is 2H2O 2H2 + O2. The lab we did in chemistry class called Electrolysis of Water is a good example of decomposition because decomposition was produced by passing an electric current through the substance in the container with the screw and nail inside which represent the ... • 36. Analysis Of Passing By Nella Larsen the novel Passing, Nella Larsen explores the consequences and disadvantages of two African Americans living in a segregated society. The reconnection between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry illustrates two different paths in regards to how they portray themselves in their own community. Larsen displays Clare Kendry as a light skinned women who tolerates her husband s racial comments in order to live in a higher society. Clare s decision to secretly hide her racial background because of the desire of wanting to be accepted by individuals of an upper social class greatly affects Irene. Clare s determination of overcoming racial barriers by passing as a white individual is similar to the Rhinelander/Jones case. In 1924 the son of the wealthiest families in New York married the daughter of a taxicab driver. However, Leonard Rhinelander appealed to have is marriage annulled due to believing his wife to be white when he married her (135). Rhinelander suspected Alice Jones was hiding her racial background by passing as a white individual. As the trial progressed it was concluded that that Rhinelander had an understanding of her racial background before marriage was an option between the two. The Rhinelander/Jones case demonstrates how Clare Kendry decided to pass as a white individual in order to obtain wealth and social status by marrying a white male. The three criticism texts chosen demonstrates how racial passing between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry contributes to social status. In Nella Larsen s Passing: A Problem of Interpretation, Claudia Tate argues that raceis not the novels foremost concern, but is merely a mechanism for setting the story in motion (344). Tate s decision to focus on the psychological ambiguity (343) of the novel forbids her to elaborate on the relation between race and social class. As a result, I disagree with certain statements from Tate s argument due to the lack of acknowledging the issue regarding race and social class. Tate initially claims that Irene s understanding of race becomes a concern when the impending exposure of Clare s racial identity threatens to hasten the disruption of Irene s domestic security (Tate 344). However, Irene s fear of being spotted as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The following set of experiments seeks to study overt and covert facial recognition (Schweinberger Burton, 2003). Each study discussed above examines the model of facial recognition and its relation to overt and covert recognition. Covert facial recognition is the unconscious recognition of familiar faces (Maureen, 2016). Whereas, overt facial recognition is the conscious recognition (Maureen, 2016). There has been a vast amount of research on the topic in an attempt to discover exactly how the recognition of facial features/expressions take place in the brain and how it can be linked to certain neurological disorders. Overall, results from each study examined tend to suggest that overt and covert facial recognition share the same area of the brain. Research by Farah and colleagues did not support this idea however, they do not deny it either. Rather, they suggest the possibility of separate forms of prosopagnosia, one causing damage to both overt and covert facial recognition while the other(s) cause damage to only one of the functions. This study, however, is also much older than the others examined which could be a result of lack of information that overtime was learned by others. The majority of research suggests that damage to overt facial recognition will in time result in damage to covert facial recognition. Thus meaning if one is damaged it is only a matter of time before the other starts to suffer. However, with it not being the case one hundred percent of the time it would not be fair to assume that and ignore opposing research. • 41. The Concept of Intelligence Essay The Concept of Intelligence ABSTRACT: Gilbert Ryle s dispositional analysis of the concept of intelligence makes the error of assimilating intelligence to the category of dispositional or semi dispositional concepts. Far from being a dispositional concept, intelligence is an episodic concept that refers neither to dispositions nor to knowing how, but to a fashion or style of proceeding whose significance is adverbial. Being derivative from the function of the adverb intelligently, the concept of intelligence does not have essential reference to specific verbs but rather to the manner or style of proceeding of nearly any verb that is descriptive of the proceedings of an agent. Intelligence words are expressive of a manner of doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dualist s reaction was to withdraw from the dispositional analysis and to claim that intelligence can only make sense when it is ultimately linked to an alternative concept which presumably has reference to a process (the existence of which may be ascertained by a subjective avowal: intent, deliberation, reflective choice, etc.). Whether this maneuver avoids the Rylean critique is subject to serious doubt. Each new term may itself have a problem concerning the metaphysical status of its referent: whether it is a physical or a spiritual process. Another problem with this approach is that it often makes the concept of intelligence dependent on factors that may have no more than a casual relation to its meaning: a contextual connection, for example. While a dispositional analysis of intelligence would effectively rescue it from entrapment inside the ghost in the machine it would fail to do the concept the justice that the dualist seeks for it, and that is to make the observation that it appears to be more an episodic than a dispositional concept. It is in this connection that some philosophers take a critical view of Ryle s analysis. Peter Thomas Geach, for instance, claims that reports of mental acts are categorical and are not hypothetical or semi hypothetical statements about overt behavior. He believes the dispositional account of psychological concepts to be on a level with the statement that opium puts people to sleep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Negotiations With The Dispute Between The Disputants Problem Solving First of all, in order to solve any problem there need to be negotiation techniques established to deal with the dispute between both of the disputants. First, a proper negotiation technique must include the creation of a mutual frame. This frame consist of setting a good tone during the negotiators opening statement. This tone can have two different effects, either there is cooperation or competition (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p 159). There is nothing worse than having set everything up and because of the tone that the mediator has everything fall apart. Second, there needs to be an establishment of criteria in order to have both the disputants establish cooperation. When criteria is established, neither of the disputants can establish their own competiveness, however, when a disputant does establish competitiveness, it is the job of the mitigation to move out of competitiveness and move the discussion to determine the facts (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p159). Some ways to assist the mediator from successfully steering away from competiveness is by asking questions that remind both disputants that the reason they are there is to solve the problem and not cause more tension. Additionally, while some negotiators might employ brainstorminginto the techniques, this is considered optional. However, I do feel that having both disputants brainstorm can assist then with considering both side of the issue when ideas are expressed freely. According to McCorkle and ... The War Of 1905 And The United States After the expansion of power in the federal government in domestic affairs, the Progressive presidents did not want to project American power outside of the borders just yet. At first, their interventions were primarily in the Western Hemisphere. Between 1901 and 1920, U.S. marines landed in Caribbean countries over twenty times. These ships were sent off to establish stable access to raw materials like sugar and bananas, and for the bankers with loans to local governments that might not be repaid. Theodore Rooseveltdivided the world into civilized and uncivilized nations. Roosevelt became extremely active in international diplomacy, more so than his predecessors. For example, he helped to negotiate a settlement of the Russo Japanese War of 1905, for this he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Roosevelt declared that the Untied States did not have the slightest desire to expand territory, however, he engaged an intervention in Central America. His first major action in the region was the separation of Panama from Columbia in order to construct a canal that would link the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. This idea was long before thought about in history. In other words, the prosecutor, Mr. Myer must present a strong case to satisfy the jury that charges against the defendant are almost certainly true (Neubauer Fradella, 2014, p. 35). When the trial started, the evidence was strong enough for a guilty verdict. The prosecution had three witnesses to support the claim that Vole killed Emily French. The first witness, Inspector Hearne, provided the court with blood evidence on the sleeve of Vole s jacket; however, during cross examination, Sir Wilfrid disputed the evidence because Vole s blood type was not excluded as the donor. This is obvious; the play is about homosexuals during the AIDS epidemic in the 80 s. Not only is gayness their lives, it also figures in as a distorted simulation of itself. In the postmodern era, identities have become simulations of perceived actions instead of actual actions. Seen in rhetoric and in the play, homosexualitybecomes associated with powerlessness, sin, and disease. Kushner s characters are greatly affected by these stereotypes and false realities of their identities. We see the way simulacra affects the characters of Roy, Joe, and Prior. Importantly, Prior suffers under a simulation of homosexuality as an openly gay man with AIDS, while Roy and Joe cannot fully identify as gay because of the implications they have been taught. Roy and Joe never know an unmediated definition of homosexuality; it forever has a negative connotation of powerlessness or sin. Prior is able to survive his disease and break away from the oppression of the simulacra.
