Soil formation takes thousands or even millions of years as new surfaces have little soil while old surfaces have deeper soils. Soil erosion occurs when crops are grown in spoiled soil and is caused by either wind or water, as stronger winds can slowly move soil particles away and flowing water has enough speed to carry soil particles with it. To prevent further soil erosion, steps should be taken such as proper planting, new farming methods, controlling flooding, building small dams, diverting water runoff, and protecting erodible areas.

2. Formation of soil
Now lets see how soil is formed……
• Soil does not form over-night. In fact, soil formation
can take thousands, and in some cases even millions
of years. Thus time is an obviously important factor in
soil formation.
• A newly exposed surface will have very little if any
soil, while old surfaces will often have much deeper
soils.

3. Soil erosion
When the soil in which we grow crops gets
spoilt
We call it soil erosion.

4. Causes for soil erosion
There are two major causes for soil erosion.
Wind
Water
When the wind is a little stronger and when it meets
the soil it frictions and it slowly moves away
Flowing water has great speed. Due to this speed,
soil also starts running with water causing soil
erosion

5. Soil conservation
Day by day so much of soil is going of by soil
erosion so we should take steps to prevent soil
erosion.

plant seeds properly
using new farming methods
 stopping rivers flooding
building small dams in gullies to slow down
water run-off
digging channels across farm slopes to divert
water
protecting areas likely to be eroded
