A . Athens: “The first true democracy”
-Athens was governed by it’s citizens,
who had the rights to vote, and had an
equal say in the City state.
-Had a strong naval force
-Intellect was one of the most important
traits of an Athenian.

B. Sparta
-A city state of warlike people.
(Spartans)
-Had a very strong army and used this
to conquer many surrounding areas.
-Only men were counted a citizens.
Women and slaves weren’t.
Philosophies
A. Stoicism: Apathy and neutrality
B. Epicureanism: Pleasure seeking
C. Skepticism: Hunger for knowledge
D. Sophism: Harbor false information
E. Optimism: Focuses on the positive side of things
F. Nihilism: Focuses on the negative side of things
G. Hedonism: Pleasure seeking. Similar to

-Leader of creation of democracy in

-Had many buildings, such as the

-A philosopher famous for trying to explain

-Was sentenced to death by poison for
“poisoning the minds of the youth”

-Known as “The Conqueror of the East and

-He started the Hellenistic period.
D. Plato
-Wrote many treaties for the government
-Was Socrates’ student

A. Zeus
-Supreme ruler of the gods.
-Overthrew his father, Cronos.
- “The god of the sky and of Olympus”
-Married to Hera, but is known to
have
many affairs, leading to the
“demigods”.
-He uses a thunderbolt as a weapon.

B. Hades
-After Zeus overthrew their father, they
drew lots along with their other
brothers to decide which area of the
world the would rule. Hades became the
god of the underworld.
-Hades is also the god of wealth
- He abducted his wife, Persephone.

-Became the god of the sea after
the fall of Cronos.
-He uses a trident that has the power
to
create earthquakes

A. Persian-Greco wars
-Wars between Persia and Greek City
states.
-The Greeks won most, if not all, of
these wars.
B. The Trojan War
-Famous for the Trojan Horse
-A war that was has not yet been
proven to be true

C. Messenian Wars
-Wars fought between the Messenians
and the Spartans
-The Spartans won both wars, causing
the Messenians to become their slaves.
D. Greek Punic Wars
-Wars fought between Greece and the
Carthaginians
