Sparta was militaristic and only considered men citizens. Ancient Greek philosophy included Stoicism, Epicureanism and Skepticism. Famous personalities were Pericles, who helped create Athenian democracy, Socrates the philosopher, and Alexander the Great. Major gods worshipped were Zeus, king of the gods, Hades ruler of the underworld, and Poseidon god of the sea. Significant wars involved conflicts with Persia and Troy.
