First of all, our members of the team would like to express our
deepestappreciation to all who have provided us the possibilityto complete
this projectwhich takes a lot of efforts inthe progress of the project. In
performing our assignment, we had to take the help and guideline of some
respectedpersons, who deserve our greatest gratitude. The completionof
this assignment gives us much pleasure. We would like to show our
gratitude to our social psychologylecturer, Mr. Shankar for giving us a
good guideline for assignmentand also the briefing of the assignmentto
allow us have a better understanding of the requirement and tasks to do for
this final project. We also show our thanks to the Taylor’s University for
allowing us to film our video around the campus premises . We would like
to thank many people who involving in this assignment, especiallyour
classmates and team members itself, who have made valuable comment
suggestions on this video which gave us an inspiration to improve our
assignment. We would also like to show our appreciation for the
classmates,Nick Ng, Foo Zhi Fung, Chau Xet Nee, Ngo Jia Haur and Chin
Vin Yan who agree to participate in our video shooting part. Lastly, we
would also like to expand our deepestgratitude to all those who have
directly and indirectly guided us in performing this assignment.
Introduction
Filming a video is our final projectfor Social Psychologysubjectin
Foundation in Natural and Built Environment. We have to show any of the 5
4
psychologyconceptin our video. Hence, we come out an idea of story line
regarding a daily life and challenges of a boy. We try to relate back toward
our real-life experience as close as possibleto give a genuine feeland
definition of the psychologyconcept.Afterour second group discussion,we
decided to use downward social comparison, observational learning,
bystander effect, framing heuristics and social impressions into our story
line. We chose these 5 psychologyconceptis because we feelthat these
conceptare happening the most around us.
This project is rather fun forus because we got the chance to be director
and actor for a day. What most excited is when the video is out to publish
to the public. Throughout this project,we gain an increased awareness of
the importance of social concepts in our daily life. This projectenhanced
our understanding of the theoretical part when we applied the frameworks
of social psychologyinto our video. We have to do intense research to
make sure everyone of us understand it thoroughly.
During the video shooting, we improvise our story line with comedyand fun
element inside. We are trying to grab the audience’s attention and interest
when they watch our video. We hope that everyone enjoyed watching our
video.
5
Method
a. Apparatus / Material
The main apparatus used was Canon D450, a DSLR camera on
the whole video filming in order to produce a High Definition(HD)
version of video. After our discussions, we decided to use voice
recording to narrate our story line. The narrator briefly explain the
storyline to give a better understanding to the viewer of this video.
Other than that, we use joyous background music throughout our
video to hype up the storyline. The fun part is that we cooperate
with other people and our friends in Taylor’s University as
supportive characters in several scenes to make it more
entertaining. The props that we used in this project include an
Iphone 6, wallet , keypad phone and etc. The place settings of the
video shooting is at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus, which
specifically is at Lecture theatre 14, Block E level 1 corridor and
the food stall located at Block E level 1.
6
Procedure
For this final project, my group member had decided to use
Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus as our place setting due
to convenience for the gathering of the group member. The
area where shot our scenes were lecture theatre 14 , corridor
outside lecture theatre 14 , food stall next to lecture theatre 14 .
First scene, show Mantis walk in to lecture theater 14 after a
long semester break he took out his brand new iPhone and
show his arrogant face holding his iPhone and compare to his
friend next to him who use keypad phone.
Second scene show during his lecturer is teaching , his lecturer
will do some of his habit and mantis saw it and try to follow
because mantis admired him so much for example digging his
nose using his finger , pattern of him tying his shoe lace , and
spinning a pen . Third scene will show that he went out from
the classroom , on his way back to his class he fell down on the
floor at a corridor outside the lecture theater, scene three show
that people who pass by don’t even give him a hand or came
near to him . Scene four show that he return to his classroom ,
showing his classmate that his hand was bleeding and he ask
them for plaster, friends offer him two kind of plaster which one
7
is written “Heal in 60 minute ” and another one is “Heal in one
Hour” .
Scene five show that Mentis class was over , he went out to
have lunch with his friend, he left his wallet on the table and his
friend did not take care of his wallet , and someone from the
next table took it .Mantis return to his seat and he realize that
his wallet is not there anymore.Mantis suspected people who
seat beside them he stand up and question him but he
suspected the wrong person.
Discussion
This discussionwould be on how the psychologyconcepts applied and
related into our daily life. These arguments influence and affecthow we are
thinking. We explain these conceptby filming Mantis’ ordinary daily life.
Questions such as how the main character could have acted and why the
character has acted as such will be frequently thought of and explained
through the video. Most of the psychologicalconcepts are based on the
thought process of the protagonist during the conflict. Our video does not
8
have much dialogue but their action is powerfulenough to give the
meaning of these psychologyconcept.
Downward SocialComparison
It is like an assessmentof how we measure up and compare against our
peers. When we make downward social comparisons,we will judge
ourselves against people who are less skilled or fortunate than ourselves.
For instance in our video, the guy who is owning the latest expensive
Iphone 6 is comparing himself to the peer owning a old-keypad phone next
to him. He think, “How awesome is my expensive Iphone 6 besidesthe old
phone, I have to show off somehow."
He is having a downward social comparisontowards his peer.
ObservationalLearning
Observational Learning is the process of acquiring information by observing
others. The learner often imitate what they see and hear from other people.
This learning style tends to be the most commonduring childhood as
children learn from the authority figures and peers in their lives.
There is 4 steps involved in observational learning, which is:
1. Attention - the individual notices something in the environment.
2. Retention - the individual rememberswhat was noticed.
3. Reproduction- the individual produces an action that is a copy of
what was noticed.
4. Motivation - the environment delivers a consequencethat the
behavior will be emitted again.
In the video, the protagonist admire his lecturer, so he wants to learn from
him. Without realizing, he actually imitating whatever action the lecture
showing, even the bad habit. He follow the action of his lecturer to spin
pen, digging nose hole, and tugging in shoelace.
Bystander Effect
9
The bystander effectoccurs when the presence ofothers discourages an
individual from intervening in an emergencysituation. The psychologist
Latané and Darley attributed the bystander effectto the perceived diffusion
of responsibilityin a crowd. Each onlooker concluded from their neighbors'
inaction that their own personal help was not needed. The example happen
on our video. When the boy fell down on a slippery floor. There is many
people pass by him and look at the accident. However, no one offerto help
him. The crowd depends on other people to initiate help.
Framing Heuristics
The word, “framing” is the meaning of with reliance on how information is
presented,we do judgment on the benefitwritten of a choice. Framing
heuristics often applied on the advertisement to play trick with the
consumer. The situation happens when the main character ask his friend
for plaster on his wound. Both of his friend offering their plaster with
differentwordings but they heal at the same time. He choose and pick the
plaster written “heal in 1 hour” because the number “1” gives an illusion that
will heal faster. In fact, both of the plaster heal the same time.
SocialPerception
Social Perceptionis the process by which we form impressions of other
people and make inferences about them. It is the first stage in which we
process informationin order to determine another individual or group of
individual's mindset and intentions. This conceptclearly shown in our
video, where Mantis evaluate the two person opposite him when his wallet
lost. His perceptiontowards the guy with red shirt is good and obedient
based on his cute and good manner. While his perceptiontowards the guys
with cap is a gangster based on his dressing and facial expression. He then
confront the guy with cap because his personal perceptionis gangsterguy
steal his wallet. However, when he is focusing on the guy with cap, the red
color shirt guy ran away with his wallet.

  • 4. 4 psychologyconceptin our video. Hence, we come out an idea of story line regarding a daily life and challenges of a boy. We try to relate back toward our real-life experience as close as possibleto give a genuine feeland definition of the psychologyconcept.Afterour second group discussion,we decided to use downward social comparison, observational learning, bystander effect, framing heuristics and social impressions into our story line. We chose these 5 psychologyconceptis because we feelthat these conceptare happening the most around us. This project is rather fun forus because we got the chance to be director and actor for a day. What most excited is when the video is out to publish to the public. Throughout this project,we gain an increased awareness of the importance of social concepts in our daily life. This projectenhanced our understanding of the theoretical part when we applied the frameworks of social psychologyinto our video. We have to do intense research to make sure everyone of us understand it thoroughly. During the video shooting, we improvise our story line with comedyand fun element inside. We are trying to grab the audience’s attention and interest when they watch our video. We hope that everyone enjoyed watching our video.
  • 5. 5 Method a. Apparatus / Material The main apparatus used was Canon D450, a DSLR camera on the whole video filming in order to produce a High Definition(HD) version of video. After our discussions, we decided to use voice recording to narrate our story line. The narrator briefly explain the storyline to give a better understanding to the viewer of this video. Other than that, we use joyous background music throughout our video to hype up the storyline. The fun part is that we cooperate with other people and our friends in Taylor’s University as supportive characters in several scenes to make it more entertaining. The props that we used in this project include an Iphone 6, wallet , keypad phone and etc. The place settings of the video shooting is at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus, which specifically is at Lecture theatre 14, Block E level 1 corridor and the food stall located at Block E level 1.
  • 6. 6 Procedure For this final project, my group member had decided to use Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus as our place setting due to convenience for the gathering of the group member. The area where shot our scenes were lecture theatre 14 , corridor outside lecture theatre 14 , food stall next to lecture theatre 14 . First scene, show Mantis walk in to lecture theater 14 after a long semester break he took out his brand new iPhone and show his arrogant face holding his iPhone and compare to his friend next to him who use keypad phone. Second scene show during his lecturer is teaching , his lecturer will do some of his habit and mantis saw it and try to follow because mantis admired him so much for example digging his nose using his finger , pattern of him tying his shoe lace , and spinning a pen . Third scene will show that he went out from the classroom , on his way back to his class he fell down on the floor at a corridor outside the lecture theater, scene three show that people who pass by don’t even give him a hand or came near to him . Scene four show that he return to his classroom , showing his classmate that his hand was bleeding and he ask them for plaster, friends offer him two kind of plaster which one
  • 7. 7 is written “Heal in 60 minute ” and another one is “Heal in one Hour” . Scene five show that Mentis class was over , he went out to have lunch with his friend, he left his wallet on the table and his friend did not take care of his wallet , and someone from the next table took it .Mantis return to his seat and he realize that his wallet is not there anymore.Mantis suspected people who seat beside them he stand up and question him but he suspected the wrong person. Discussion This discussionwould be on how the psychologyconcepts applied and related into our daily life. These arguments influence and affecthow we are thinking. We explain these conceptby filming Mantis’ ordinary daily life. Questions such as how the main character could have acted and why the character has acted as such will be frequently thought of and explained through the video. Most of the psychologicalconcepts are based on the thought process of the protagonist during the conflict. Our video does not
  • 8. 8 have much dialogue but their action is powerfulenough to give the meaning of these psychologyconcept. Downward SocialComparison It is like an assessmentof how we measure up and compare against our peers. When we make downward social comparisons,we will judge ourselves against people who are less skilled or fortunate than ourselves. For instance in our video, the guy who is owning the latest expensive Iphone 6 is comparing himself to the peer owning a old-keypad phone next to him. He think, “How awesome is my expensive Iphone 6 besidesthe old phone, I have to show off somehow." He is having a downward social comparisontowards his peer. ObservationalLearning Observational Learning is the process of acquiring information by observing others. The learner often imitate what they see and hear from other people. This learning style tends to be the most commonduring childhood as children learn from the authority figures and peers in their lives. There is 4 steps involved in observational learning, which is: 1. Attention - the individual notices something in the environment. 2. Retention - the individual rememberswhat was noticed. 3. Reproduction- the individual produces an action that is a copy of what was noticed. 4. Motivation - the environment delivers a consequencethat the behavior will be emitted again. In the video, the protagonist admire his lecturer, so he wants to learn from him. Without realizing, he actually imitating whatever action the lecture showing, even the bad habit. He follow the action of his lecturer to spin pen, digging nose hole, and tugging in shoelace. Bystander Effect
  • 9. 9 The bystander effectoccurs when the presence ofothers discourages an individual from intervening in an emergencysituation. The psychologist Latané and Darley attributed the bystander effectto the perceived diffusion of responsibilityin a crowd. Each onlooker concluded from their neighbors' inaction that their own personal help was not needed. The example happen on our video. When the boy fell down on a slippery floor. There is many people pass by him and look at the accident. However, no one offerto help him. The crowd depends on other people to initiate help. Framing Heuristics The word, “framing” is the meaning of with reliance on how information is presented,we do judgment on the benefitwritten of a choice. Framing heuristics often applied on the advertisement to play trick with the consumer. The situation happens when the main character ask his friend for plaster on his wound. Both of his friend offering their plaster with differentwordings but they heal at the same time. He choose and pick the plaster written “heal in 1 hour” because the number “1” gives an illusion that will heal faster. In fact, both of the plaster heal the same time. SocialPerception Social Perceptionis the process by which we form impressions of other people and make inferences about them. It is the first stage in which we process informationin order to determine another individual or group of individual's mindset and intentions. This conceptclearly shown in our video, where Mantis evaluate the two person opposite him when his wallet lost. His perceptiontowards the guy with red shirt is good and obedient based on his cute and good manner. While his perceptiontowards the guys with cap is a gangster based on his dressing and facial expression. He then confront the guy with cap because his personal perceptionis gangsterguy steal his wallet. However, when he is focusing on the guy with cap, the red color shirt guy ran away with his wallet.
