3. This is a flyer given out by Taylor’s University to promote their open day. The first
thing that I would notice is the enlarged sentence in bolded capital letters. “What if I
spend thousands on a course my daughter later decides is ”not for her”? From this
sentence, we can see that Taylor’s answer the common issue that parents faced –
financial problem. This is a powerful statement as Taylor’s is trying to ensure parents
that sending their children to Taylor’s are a right choice. Taylor’s are able to give
confidence to the parents for its integrity and excellence. Below it says: “50% of
university students have changed their majors at least once before graduation.” This is
a research done by Penn State University, as high as 50% of university students
wasted their valuable time and money! This statement is used as reinforcement for
the bolded statement, by appeal to reason as scientific evidence. Parents will have and
changed their mindset about what they used to think and reconsider to send their
children to a better university and preferred course. In this case facts are persuasive as
it can’t be changed as it is research-based and proven.
Next, by using contrasting colors (white word, dark background), the flyer gives
enhancing and emphasizing effect of the content Taylor’s are trying to show. “Prevent
the same from happening with your child by starting their education right”, the school
authorities try to convince people to change their attitudes or behaviors regarding on
the stated issue above. “Start right with Taylor’s”, which the school authorities have
been stressed on, to give assurance to public throughout the decades.
This flyers shows persuasion, to parents and to students as well. It evolves a
deliberate attempt to influence people, when Taylor’s is trying to shows it’s positive
side as internal attribution, not by external attribution itself.
