This document discusses how family support workers can use social media to connect with and support families of children with disabilities. Some key suggestions include:
- Sharing information about workshops, resources, experiences and knowledge through platforms like Facebook, blogs and webinars
- Connecting by asking and answering questions, and sharing stories about struggles and successes
- Providing online support and emotional connections when in-person meetings are not possible, through private and moderated social media groups
- Directing people to experts and community organizations who can offer additional support and connection opportunities

Georgia Tech Guest Lecture: Social Media 10steffan
A "career-so-far" recap summary that I used in presentations to Georgia Tech's Scheller College of Business classes, in mentoring their student body to think more socially. Presented with Adam Naide.
Participants will come away with a clear, accessible understanding of what media literacy is in the digital age and why it is imperative that character education, beginning in the family, be integrated across the curriculum for all other literacies to build on. They will come away with practical skills that they can apply immediately in life, faith, catechesis, and education. As catechists, teachers, parents and ministers, it is not enough to know "how." We are called to be faithful citizens in the digital universe and character education is the basic human foundation on which to build the moral, faithful citizen with an informed conscience and vibrant faith life. (This presentation was part of a two day media workshop sponsored by the Daughters of St Paul and the CANA Centre in Singapore, Nov 5-6, 2018.)
A presentation I gave to Colgate students who work in the summer for non-profits. It works better with me there, but what can you do? There is even a mistake in it. Or two.
Tap into the power of social media to increase professional effectiveness, student engagement and parent participation! K-12 educators and leaders, learn how to integrate Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Edublogs, Google Hangout and more into your everyday repertoire.

Renegotiating Reciprocity - Supporting People with Disabilities in Contributi...Aaron Johannes
We all want to contribute, and we are all necessary to co-create an effective and whole community. I often think of the Australian Aboriginal elders who, when people with disabilities were returned, their names and totems and tribes forgotten, said "We knew something was missing from the Whānau [the whole extended family]." Much of my work lately has been about remembering that we all belong, that we already know each other, and that we each have a mission of contribution to share, which often incorporates rebellion and innovation which, perhaps, can be negotiated within our larger social systems if we can be clear and certain.

The latest version of "Keep Your Cell Phones On!" Social Media for Social Good - why people with disabilities need to be part of online communities and how we can make it happen
Person centered planning is the fulcrum idea behind services to people with disabilities, and yet it is often misunderstood - to the point where sometimes people refer to it as "the perversion of person centeredness" - one way to make it meaningful is to break it down into elements and break those down to see what means what and what might be done to make those parts mean more. This is a version of a presentation that was given at TASH 2013 and at Cornell University as part of their Citizen Centred Leadership webinar series.

Playing the Game on a Different Court: A Discussion of Social Media for Local...Chrissanne Long
Sales professionals and business owners think Social Media has changed the way the game is played. The reality is, the game is exactly the same, it's just being played on a different court. Social Media is the new court. Those who have recognized this, and have established an authentic presence with social media are experiencing enormous business benefits. Nothing replaces fate-to-face time, but social media makes building relationships a much more efficient process.
You\'ve Got the Power is a very popular session delivered to frontline staff in schools and offices. It helps staff understand the key role they play in building and breaking school/district reputation and delivers five "power tools" to help them maximize their reputation-building influence.
Our world is completely wired and often we cannot see the real connections that seem invisible. And it's not only young people who spend hours using social media every day,but more and more grown-ups are joining social media sites for a variety of motives. Even the Pope tweets. In this presentation I explore questions about social media, faith and education and share two frameworks for evaluating how students, teachers, and others create content and consume it. The T.H.I.N.K. strategy is easy to learn, apply and share with even young children.

The Joneses: Communication Networks to Do Your Dirty WorkTonya Oaks Smith
Keeping up with the Joneses… That idea is an integral part of selling anything – whether it's a car or a spot in an upcoming freshman class.
We all know that we have to have conversations with our audiences and more importantly listen, but why is this approach so important? Does this engagement approach directly oppose the traditional idea of marketing our wares? Do folks actually listen to what we have to say when we tweet, Facebook, email? How do we engage them – and convince them to do what we want?
The answer is often not in how we engage, but in how we help communication networks develop. In this session, you'll learn the characteristics of a strong communication network and of great opinion leaders as well as what communication behaviors individuals bring to social media. Finally, you'll find out best practices for engaging with opinion leaders and how to *use* them wisely.

Reference Is Dead! Long Live Reference! The Future of Reference ServicesDon Boozer
Has Google made reference librarians obsolete? Is a golden age of librarianship being ushered in? Technology has had a democratizing effect on the availability of information, but what does this mean for reference services? The future of reference services has yet to be written, and there are both challenges as well as opportunities ahead. A panel of experts will confront these questions from a variety of perspectives including public and academic, front-line and administrative, and adult and young adult. Come and join this timely and thought-provoking discussion. - Presented at the Ohio Library Council Convention & Expo 2014

• A friend of mine commented on this so forgive me while I chime in. I am in Kenora and we have a closed site for
Mom's. No one can see this site and you must be invited in order to join. It is so great. Moms are really honest
about their questions and their answers. Many of the members have children with different issues but so many of
us have had similar experiences with our personal or work lives. The key to this site being so successful is that we
all feel safe asking and answering questions. I agree that face to face is better but when you are at home, feeling
all alone and needng help or support, this type of group can be amazing! SHARE INFORMATION / CONNECT /

• EH you're right SN about having support when you need it. I think the big difference for us here is that we aren't
as remote and there are services, groups, etc. A group I know tried to do an online support group but it never got
off the ground. Not sure why; perhaps because there are so many other ways to connect (they all rec'd
