What is Social
          Media?
is a type of online media that allows
conversation as opposed to traditional media,
which delivers content but doesn't allow
readers/viewers/listeners to participate in the
creation or development of the content.
Media is a plural for medium
(Channel)
Example of traditional media;
Magazines and TV stations.
Why Should We Use
      Social Media?
 Allows us to discover, connect, and engage with
  new & old people of interest.
 Allows us to learn and expand our knowledge on
  various issues.
 Allows us to get latest updates about things far
  beyond our reach.
 It brings us to new opportunities we never
  thought existed.
 it's easy to share your ideas, photos, videos,
  likes and dislikes, with the world at large - and
  find out what they think of them.
 For entertainment.
Types Of Social Media;
Social Sharing Sites eg. Youtube, Flickr
Social Networks eg. Facebook, Twitter, Mig33
Wikis eg. Wikipedia
Blogs eg. Blogger, Wordpress
Social Sharing Sites!
Social sharing sites allow users to share
ideas, activities, events and etc through
uploading of photos and videos.
     Examples;Youtube, Flickr and Photobucket
Wikis!
Are social media sites where by interact is
by adding articles and editing existing articles.

 They provide important notes on various
topics from arts, politics, geography, biology
to very basic issues.
Anyone can provide more information and
sometime update information already there.
 Example of a wiki is Wikipedia!
They are good for reference!
Blogs!
is a type of website or part                of   a
website.~(According to Wikipedia)

are usually maintained by an individual with
regular entries of commentary, descriptions of
events, or other material such as graphics or
video.
Companies offering blog services includes
Blogger and Wordpress!


 Some people use blogs as public diaries!
Social Networks!
Social networking sites allow users to share
ideas, activities, events, and interests within
their individual networks.
There is Social networks built up for
 people of certain interests. Eg. Music
(Last.fm      )

Join the ones important to you!
Use a good password (meaning difficult for
others to guess but easy for you to remember!)
Be Real, Be You, don’t act anything you are
not!
Engage!-By doing so it becomes meaningful!
