The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
2. What is Web 2.0? SHARETo share information for example uploading pictures INTERACTBeing able to post your comments on the website/blog site. COLLABORATECollaborate on content meaning you could go in and edit or add information (e.g. in Wikipedia). CREATEBeing able to create their own content and embed or share it on the website (e.g. Youtube) It was usually called ‘Social Web’ because it allows users to share and interact.
3. Blogs & Blogging Blog is a our personal website that we use to add our own storyline into it. It will sort itself to chronological order (or order time, date that it was updated). Business people could use it for selling product etc. Blog is easy to make by just clicking a few clicks, but it allows to you be a writer or publisher with very little effort. It allows other user to comment on that blog too. Blogs are not the type of website to find facts information because it contains only the owner’s of the blog’s opinion and some information’s might be factually wrong.
4. Wikis The most famous wiki is Wikipedia. It is a place that stored all kinds of facts that you want to know about. It allows all users to collaborate to create the content. That’s mean that it could be edit by everyone. Many people so not trust Wikipedia because it might have errors or false facts, however because many people use it they will go in and edit the false part or any errors, errors are usually fixed within hours. Wikis also contain automatic links between pages on the same window or links to other websites.
5. Media Uploading Sites Media Uploading Sites for example Youtube, it allow us to share media file types such as pictures, music, video, music video, clip etc. It allows other users to rate and comment, sharing ideas.
6. Social Networks Social Network such as Facebook, allow us to connect to all users worldwide by using internet connection, it could be friends, family or relatives. Users can share their own personal information, pictures, videos, send messages to each other. They can chat through the webpage and connect each other freely.
