Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

My SELF-INTERVIEW
Hello, I am Raùl García, I am studying 3rd of E.S.O at IES Al-
Qázeres (Cáceres, Spain). I am from Caceres too. I have been in
quarantine for 45 days now, with my parents and my little brother.
Until now, I have been in quarantine feeling quite well since I can
communicate with my friends using my mobile phone.
HOW ARE ADULTS DEALING WITH IT?
How are the adults in your life coping with the situation?
My parents are doing a good job of quarantining, and they insist that I
wash my hands to prevent the virus.
Do you feel the media is answering your questions and concerns?
Is there anything you feel they
are not doing that you’d like them to do?
I think the media is doing quite well and giving us many re-
recommendations to prevent the virus and informing us of everything
new that is discovered about the virus.
LEARNING FROM THIS LOCKDOWN
2. Do you think this is a situation we might learn from?
Yes, I think we can learn that you have to take advantage of every
minute of your life because you never know if something like this has
happened suddenly.
THE REALITY OF LOCKDOWN
What don’t you like about lockdown?
I don't like the emergency shutdown because I can't see my friends, and
I have to talk to them on the phone. Another reason is that I can't play
soccer or watch it on TV because they canceled it.
Is there anything you do like about it? What?
Yes, I have more time to dedicate to video games, and it is something that I
did not do much.
What is the hardest thing about lockdown?
The most difficult thing is to do all the duties that are sent to us, and
maintain our physical form.
I think that if I didn't have as many duties as they send me and let us
take a few walks with a friend, I would face it much better.
WAYS OF COPING
What helps you cope with the situation? Do you have any
suggestions for people who are not
coping so well?
3. What helps me deal with lockdown is playing video games. I would
recommend that you try one, because a video game is like having a life
that you control.
DAILY LIFE IN LOCKDOWN
What is weekday under lockdown?
My day to day is: I get up, breakfast, I do homework until lunch, I play
video games for a few hours, I do a little exercise, I have dinner and I go
to bed.
What is a weekend day under lockdown like?
On weekends I usually have all the homework finished, so what I do is
play the console and exercise.
How are you all sharing the housework?
In my house we do the housework among all, we wash the dishes, each
one cleans his room we make dinner ...
EXPERIENCE OF SCHOOL AT HOME
What’s it like to have school at home?
Having school at home is bad enough, since they send us a lot of
homework, and some teachers start a new topic without explaining it
What do you think your school has got right about the way it has
dealt with the sudden change?
No, because they have allowed teachers to give new material, and that
is a problem because they cannot explain it to us.
What do you think could be improved?
That teachers cannot give new material
4. WORRY AND FEAR
What are your concerns about the general situation?
My concerns are that the virus can be passed more than once, because
that means that we will not be safe until there is a vaccine.
What are your concerns, personally?
The same ones.

What helps you cope with the situation?
What helps me deal is playing video games, because a video game is
like having a life that you control.
