As I think about how to approach this paper, I draw a blank. A week or so goes by and I have yet to hand in this assignment. “Why?”, I ask myself. The more I think about it the more I feel guilty or isolated. As a young child I was always the quiet one that sat down and stayed out of everyone else’s way. In my house, the adults spoke and the children were not to speak or be in the same room. The times when I did open my mouth, I was often told to shut up, that I didn’t know anything, or that I was just a kid. Time went by and I learned to keep many thoughts and feelings inside my head.
Sad to say, although I lived with my family until I was about sixteen, I never really knew too much about them. It was about a year ago when I went to my family physician and I realized I didn’t know my family health history that I started to wonder. Sure enough, high cholesterol, diabetes and heart problems are common in my family.
My sister, the youngest of us three siblings, knows more about our family because she was always around my mother and heard and saw more than I ever have. I looked to my sister for more information on my family and to finish this paper. I called up in her New Jersey home and she got pretty excited.
The roots of my family- I’m thirty-four years old and know that I’m Puerto Rican. However, my sister gave me more detailed information. My great-grandmother came to Puerto Rico from France, where she married my great-grand father, who was half Spaniard and half native Puerto Rican. That would make my grandmother half French a quarter Puerto Rican and a quarter Spaniard. My grandmother then married my grand father who was one hundred percent Puerto Rican, making my mother three quarters Puerto Rican and a little of this and a little of that. My mother married my father who too was one hundred percent Puerto Rican. So I guess my little pinky on my foot has a bit of French in it.
Strength-What my family relies on to get them through hard times- My sister jokingly replied “food stamps” to this question as we both laugh over the phone. The truth is that there is some truth behind that joke. Unfortunately, the very thing I’m trying to change in my life, seems to be my family’s modus operandi. My family deals with most of their issues with things found outside ourselves, such as shopping. As a child, waiting for my mother’s monthly check was like waiting for our birthdays to arrive. At this time of month we looked forward to food and clothes.
To this day, my sister and brother are both very successful in the “world of man.” My sister spends money as if she was going to die tomorrow with the attitude that the more expensive something is, the better it must be. She constantly shows love to others through gifts, the bigger the gift the more the love. My brother doesn’t fall to far behind, taking vacation after vacation with his wife and six kids, and having recently sold his first house an.

When one mentions a party what immediately feels our mind is loud music, alcohol, various mouthwatering delicacies, dancing and what have you. Well, I can’t refute the fact that that is what a really party entails but you will agree with me that there can be a party not lacking fun with all the music, drugs, alcohol and food missing. That is exactly what happened at my home when the national results came out and the great, big good news was that I had made it to the university. When the news reached us, the whole compound went crazy, I can still remember the day vividly, my mum was singing and dancing as she went round the compound, my dad sited under a shade and making several calls one after the other delivering the good news, my brothers and sisters though calm and not going crazy with my mum and dad, I could see it how they all looked at me, my sisters their eyes filled with tears of joy and my brothers giving me that look that says that is how you roll….
That was my party! After the merriment and the dancing and singing and constant beeping of the phone for a couple of days, the mood calmed down, and immediately my family sat down to deliberate on the next move. Whatever was discussed that day by my family behind the rolled down curtains yielded enough results, and everything was agreed upon, here I am, my first day on a campus. Well, if you are wondering, I didn’t teleport myself here, and I am not alone either. I came with my dad and the journey was long so we had to wake up very early in the morning so as to make it in time for registration and acquisition of a room for my accommodation for the next couple of months that I am going to be on campus. I dare say the journey was rather longer than usually. Well what do you expect, with the emotions running high, the expectations, excitement mixed with the fear of the unknown can yield an excellent concoction that seems to have the magic of making time stand still or rather make a minute be several seconds longer.
After a couple of hours the long wait was finally over and finally we arrived. When my eyes first beheld the scenery, there seemed to be a lot to take in, the buildings, the number of people walking in various directions, it was amazing and somehow satisfied my perceptions about what was ahead of me. The registration and accommodation were over within no time, and I was in my room and a new friend, when my new friend and roommate got to give me an overview of what to expect in the coming days, the revelations threatened and totally changed my views and perceptions on campus. Before his blindfold removing revelations, I always perceived and thought highly of university students and its environs. Don’t get me wrong, though, it is but not lacking in the various social misfits of the world. This though might sound reasonable but it is not because most if no ...

Who is who? Projects are meant as a different approach to key events and processes in History by focusing on their leaders and setting a challenge to students. They must work in teams performing a detective’s task to find out who the people are through their portraits, the clues provided about their achievements and their famous quotes to complete. Then they have to go deeper into the matter, to explain the meaning and purpose of the quotes as well as writing a short biography of each character. By doing this the students should find the “intruder”, that is to say the person who is not related to the others and justify their choice.
The final product is a collective paper, with the sources of information referenced in a proper way. It is an example of collaborative work and gamification to learn History contents while building writing skills.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
The social and psychological effects of a virus: COVID19
1. The Social and Psychological Effects of a
Virus: the case of COVID19
Julen Román Cobos
PODCAST TRANSCRIPT
Hello, my name is Julen. I'm 14, although I'm about to turn 15. At the moment, I
am in the 3rd year of ESO in Cáceres, Spain.
At the moment, we have been in confinement for 45 days. These days, I'm
spending them with my parents, my sister, my grandmother and my pet. At the
moment, I'm getting on fairly well, although these last two weeks have been a
bit hard.
On whether we will learn from this "experience". We, humans, are very much of
returning to our customs, one only has to see how the promenades of the
coastal cities have been filled or how those who have left their homes have
taken the directions as they wanted. Although not everything has been bad: we
citizens have joined together to be locked in our houses and help fight the virus.
What helps me cope with this is the help and attention I receive from my
relatives. I couldn't have gotten out of the slump without them. What I
recommend is that if, for example, you are overwhelmed by too much work or
you are simply not able to think clearly, you should stop what you are doing,
take a deep breath and try to calm down. Once you feel ready to come back
with your batteries charged, go for it!
2. The days, in my opinion, pass slow and fast at the same time. That is, the days
that I have felt frustrated, sad, angry, etc., have been felt as if they have been a
thousand years. But the days that I have been happy, talking to my friends, have
flown by. I think we all have our ups and downs, but I certainly know that this
will be over sooner or later.
Speaking of homeschooling. It's been weird, but I've been adjusting to it.
However, there are days when I have felt overwhelmed by the amount of work
we had. It seems to me that we have only been sent homework with no regard
for our situations. In my case, my mother is locked in her room these days
because she is a coronavirus positive patient. And if I'm honest, I've been more
concerned about passing and trying to do all my homework than I have with
her. And that has bothered me because I think it is good that they send us
homework. After all, we have to continue with the course, that this should not
stop but I, like all children who have a family member infected, I do not feel
centred, and I think that is only taken into account if you send the homework
and also have it well. For the rest, I think it's good how teachers have tried to
adapt in the best possible way to this situation, making video calls to solve
doubts, using online educational applications, etc.
Day by day, I live in the hope that it will all be over soon, but I know it won't be.
This is going to last a long time. Even if the virus runs out in the summer, it'll
come back as scientists predict. Even though I know that one day it will
disappear completely. These days, they've set departure times depending on
your age range and/or what you're going to do. But people (not all of them) are
doing what they want. And that makes me think that, thanks to those people
who only want to go to their neighborhood hairdresser's to talk about gossip,
this will last longer and take longer to get back to normal.
As the Greek philosophers said, freedom is a relative thing. Although I think we
have been deprived of it, it is all because of something we all want: to end this
global pandemic we are experiencing. I feel less free in everything, like not
being able to go out with my friends and have a good time, but there is a reason
why video calls exist. Honestly, I don't feel like I'm locked up in a prison as many
people say or as the reference questions do. I know that in a prison things are
much harder, but here at home we have a thousand and one forms of
entertainment although the problem is that we don't know how to take
advantage of them. Without a doubt, what makes me especially excited and
would make me "feel freer" is to see my friends again, to have fun with them, I
don't know.
3. In conclusion, I believe that what we are experiencing will teach us many things,
such as how human beings really are. I hope all this will end soon and
everything will stop at once. Let's hope so.
