Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. Before deciding you want to be a V.O. there are
three important questions to ask yourself
1) Why do you want to be a V.O.?
2) Why do you think you can be V.O.?
3)
What type of V.O. do you see yourself being?
If you can’t answer these questions right now,
then hopefully the next hour will bring an
epiphany.
3. Having a love for the art of voice over is easily
understandable, after all you’re attending an
anime convention. A desire to make voice over a
career is something entirely different though, and
is often brought up because people view it as
“simple” or “just making funny voices”. Though
common, these are misconceptions about the
craft. Voice Acting is a two part job title for a
reason. Yes, Voice is important and being able to
control yours is a great skill to have, however…
4. it is only half the job! Voice ACTOR is the key
thing to remember. The field you want to enter
has everything to do with theatrics, emotion,
interpreting a script and/or character, and the
fundamentals that come with the acting
profession. If you have realized this and still
desire to be a voice actor, then you’re in the right
place.
5. There are a myriad of different things that voice
over is applied to, only three of which I listed in
the title here. Deciding what you want to
primarily work in is a major factor of how you
will choose to “train” your voice. Surprisingly,
however, everything ties into one another at some
point, so learning the basics of each field of voice
over is essential! Pick your major, but dabble in
everything.
6.
7. Have you ever noticed that how one person says
“Right” is different from how another says it? It’s
all about where the word, more importantly the
letters of the word, are placed in the mouth. This
is how accents are implemented, lisps are either
prevented or enhanced depending on need, and
pops or sibilance are handled.
The way of learning how to place a word comes
with time, but it is also handled with…
8. With these tongue twisters, you will find yourself
gaining control of letter placement and removing
sibilance, “popping”, or stammering!
a.) "Before Benny began baking, baby Brenda boorishly begged
Benny for a bowl of bento beans.“
b.) "Comprehensive clinical care costs considerable coin, 'cause
clinics
customarily care about cash customers.“
c.) "Lazy Liz literally laid listless last Labor Day, longer
lengthwise than Larry lasted laying laterally all day."
9. So, you conquered the other tongue twisters, and
your tongue is only mildly in a knot? Give the
following a try!
"Mr. See owned a saw and Mr. Soar owned a seesaw.
Now See's saw sawed Soar's seesaw before Soar saw
See, which made Soar sore. Had Soar seen See's saw
before See sawed Soar's seesaw, See's saw would not
have sawed Soar's seesaw. So you see, See's saw
sawed Soar's seesaw making it sad to see Soar so sore
when See's saw sawed Soar's seesaw!"
10. That’s it folks, but the panel is far from
over…now I open up the mic to you! Fire away
with any questions pertaining to the voice over
field, asking me to do voices/accents, etc. The
world is your oyster, so have at it! The following
two slides will be some tips and tricks to visit for
and a local vocal coach who happens to be the
man who trained me! Mention this panel or my
name (Derek Sytsma) and he’ll discuss
consultations with you and possibly doing actual
classes.
11. Remember, youtube is your friend. Listen to
AUTHENTIC accents to learn proper letter placement
and elongations or shortenings.
And AMAZING voice actor who has made material
available for purchase and free online is Pat Fraley
(patfraley.com). Of course, one of the first places you
should stop is the website of two phenomenal voice
actors that happen to be HERE at Anime Vegas! Yuri
Lowenthal and Tara Platt spearheaded the website

coming voice actors looking for tools of the trade!
