Snore Cures

For the purpose of this article, let's
consider snore cures as anything
that has been shown to be effective
against snoring. Snoring, as you
may well know, is a condition
wherein a sleeping person produces
a loud sound while breathing -
caused by the vibrating of tissue in
their airway. Included in the many
causes of snoring are poor sleep postures, alcohol addiction, smoking,
sinus infection, cold, asthma, allergies, aging and hereditary problems.


Some people snore because they have some structural problems in their
airway (for example, a swerved septum). These issues can often be
corrected through surgery or drug therapy. However, we urge you to
consider all your options before taking such drastic steps as surgery and /
or drugs. These options could have long-term negative effects and the
outcome is not always as desired. There are also several snoring cure
exercises and home snoring remedies that can be effective in treating
snoring.


Snore Cures - Sleep Posture
Improper sleeping positionis one of the common causes of snoring, so to
cure snoring, you may simply change sleeping positions. Many people tend
to sleep on their back, but this commonly triggers snoring. Sleeping on
your side is the best way to prevent snoring. This is because sleeping on
your side can lessen the blockage of airway in the throat. If you're not
comfortable sleeping on your side, sleeping on your stomach also works
well in preventing snoring.
Snore Cures - Avoid Alcohol
Alcohol combined with unhealthy habits will surely disrupt your normal
sleeping patterns as well as worsen your snoring problem. If you suffer
from snoring, it is strongly recommended not to drink alcohol for 3 to 4
hours before you sleep. Alcohol can damage the central nervous system
and may cause excessive relaxation in the nose and throat muscles, thereby
leading to increased snoring.


Snore Cures - Clear Nasal Passage
You don't have to be told that if your nose is stuffed, it's going to play a
factor in increased snoring. This is because when the nose is blocked,
people tend to breathe through their mouth, where the tissue is weaker and
tends to be looser. If you're suffering from a blocked nasal passage due to
allergies or a cold, try flushing out your nasal passages with a saline
solution (water and salt). You may also want to try sleeping with a
humidifier on in your room or using over-the-counter nasal drops if you're
uncomfortable with a saline solution.

Obese or overweight people are the most prone to experience snoring. This
is because many obese people have excess soft tissue in the lining of their
throat, which impedes
breathing. Secondly, extra
weight puts additional pressure
on the lungs and reduces the
ability to pull in enough air.

avoid snoring but it will also go
a long way to giving you a
healthy and fit body and likely a
better disposition.
Snore Cures - Anti-Snoring Devices
Some anti-snoring devices available on the market are snoring pillows,
chin straps, mandibular advancement splint or a CPAP device.


      Snoring Pillows - are specifically designed to put the patient's
      head in a position that allows for the opening of the airway during
      sleep. These offer a simple solution to snoring.


      Chin Straps - are used as an alternative to a dental device such as
      the mandibular advancement splint. Chin straps are 'worn'
      externally and applied to the lower half of the patient's face. They
      prevent the patient from breathing through their mouth during
      sleep, thereby eliminating snoring.


      Mandibular Advancement Splint - this device is worn inside a
      patient's mouth, connected to their teeth. The idea is that the device
      brings the lower jaw forward ever so slightly, which in turn pulls the
      tongue forward slightly. Often times this is enough to prevent
      snoring.


      CPAP devices (continuous
      positive airway pressure) -
      these devices, used commonly in
      patients suffering from sleep
      apnea, provide a continuous flow of
      air into the patients airways,
      thereby keeping the airway open
      and free from snore-causing
      blockages.
Nasal Strips - these simple little strips have proven very effective
      over the years. A small elastic fitted with a piece of plastic on the
      inside, is attached to the patient, about midway down the nose. The
      nasal strip pulls the nasal passage open, creating a free-flow of air.
