Essay On Bob Marley
The rebellious political Rastafarian himself Bob Marley will forever be the king of reggaeton.
Reggae music was unheard of in the United States and in other countries until Bob Marley. Bob
Marley s records elevated the music industry producing an island sound that consisted of
syncopated rhythms and pizzicato guitar melodies. Bob s career lasted almost 20 years from
the year 1962 until his untimely death in 1981. People are still inspired by his work today and
his record sales provide evidence of his legacy. For example, one of the albums released after
Bob s death titled Legend sold more than 75 million records and went platinum 15 times
(billboard.com). The majority of the tracks listed on the album were some of Bob s number one
hits that came from certified gold albums. Reggaemusic crossed over and people around the world
were introduced to the struggles of a corrupt system and the hope for a brighter future through
Bob s music. Bob was able to reach out to a large people in ways that were revolutionary and his
success landed him the number five spot on Forbes Top Earning Dead Celebrity list in 2014... Show

Obesity Prevention In The United States
Obesity Prevention in the United States How can obesity be prevented? One of my co workers
eats unhealthy food and she barely engages in physical activities. I wonder how this affects her
health. The risks of obesity doesn t only affect the physical health of a person but also emotional
and psychological. Obesity has become a major public health challenge in the United States.
Obesogenic habitat have increased due to the eating of low calorie foods of low nutritional value
and the cutback of daily physical activity (e.g., the increased portion sizes of food eaten inside and
outside of the home and the reduction of physical activities at home or in schools). Public health

In other to prevent obesity, cities and counties have to encourage food retail establishments to
promote healthier options through law and inducement. Retail food establishments like, chain
restaurants, corner stores, supermarkets, farmers markets, and mobile vendors affect public
health. Public officials have advocated a range of policy options to cities for improving access
to healthy food and decreasing the popularity of unhealthy food in various retail food settings
(Diller and Graff). Paul A. Diller and Samantha Graff convey to readers that Regulating retail
food establishments can be a powerful tool for improving a community s food environment,
especially in low income food deserts areas that lack full service supermarkets and restaurants and
are saturated with fast food restaurants and liquor stores. Cities challenging unusual obesity rates
are considering numerous governing policies for expanding the convenience and accessibility of
nutritious food, and diminishing the universality of fast food restaurants and obesogenic packaged
food. According to the article Regulating Food Retail for Obesity Prevention: How Far Can Cities
Go? Diller and Graff indicate that most states grant cities or counties some form of home rule,
allowing for broad local policymaking authority. In many home rule states, cities or counties
exercise the police power that is, the authority to regulate for the health, safety, and welfare of the
community concurrently with the state legislature. This home rule is a form of dividing state and
local power that allows municipalities to exercise only those powers directly assigned by state law.
In most states, there is solid legal authority at the municipal level that accept obesity prevention

Populist Analysis
Editorial Reflection The first thing that the author mentions in his article is the populist and
nationalist forces that are active now in many countries. By dictionary definition, Populist is a
member of a political party seeking to represent interests of ordinary people. Nationalist is a
person who advocates political independence for a country. According to the author, these type of
people are becoming more active in more countries than they were years ago. Years ago, countries
never focused on how one handshake could show them more dominance, or they never cared that
much about politics. Now that the world is changing, people are starting to care more, and so there
are more forces that are becoming more active and are getting more

A Research Study On Hunger Free Colorado
Introduction This study constitutes an attempt to induce higher income households to donate a
greater percentage of their disposable income to charitable causes. The way in which it seeks to
achieve this goal is through the administration of an online survey whose primary intent is the
elicitation of dissonant processes, which may serve to enhance the subjective valuation about
the charity, Hunger Free Colorado. According to their website: Hunger Free Colorado leads
efforts to connect families and individuals to food and nutrition resources, and to create positive
changes in systems, policies and social views, so no Coloradan goes hungry. By working at the
federal, state and county levels, we streamline business processes and adopt best practices that
will help alleviate hunger throughout the state. Considering the following statistics, it is clear
why Hunger Free Colorado s work is so important: Nearly 1 in 7 Coloradans struggled with
hunger in 2013, facing times when there was not enough money to buy food for their families or
themselves (Colman Jenson, Gregory, Singh, 2013). More than 1 in 5 Colorado households with
children (22%) reported food hardship, facing financial challenges to put food on the table (Food
Research and Action Center, 2013). More than 1 in 8 Coloradans lived in poverty, including 1 in 6
kids, during 2013 (Bishaw Fontenot, 2014). Although major disasters, such as wildfires, tornadoes,
and earthquakes, are usually followed by an outpouring of

Student Engagement In Higher Education
When discussing student leadership development in higher engagement, it is important to discuss
desired outcomes. Most definitions of student engagement often contain unstated assumptions
which are important to the discussion of student engagement but actual observations of engagement
effectiveness provide another level of understanding. Engagement allows students to develop in
important ways, as noted by (Benismon, 2009, p.xxi. xxvi) productive engagement is an important
means by which students develop feelings about their peers, professors, and institutions that give
them a sense of connectedness, affiliation, and belonging, while simultaneously offering rich
opportunities for learningand development . These are certainly positive learning experiences that
are worth the effort required to attain them. (Rush Balamootsou, 2006, p. 6) Observed that:

Student engagement is a worthy goal and must be addressed as a just another passing fancy. It has
depth, and it has substance! The Wingspread Declaration on the Civic Responsibilities of Research
Universities posed a fundamental question: Is higher education ready to commit to engagement?
Our goal in calling the question is nothing less than the transformation of our nation s colleges and
universities. We believe engagement is the best hope for the future of higher education. A return to
the mission in which the advancement of discovery, learning, and the common good is fueled by
collaborative partnerships is a vision that is right for our time and for a world that looks to higher
education for clear direction (Brukardt, Holland, Percy, Zimpher, 2004, p. ll). This is a key question
that higher education must answer and it is closely aligned with student leadership

Staphylococcus Aurosis Research Papers
Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogen of more importance due to rise in resistance to antibiotic
(Lowy, 1998).It is different from the CoNS (e.g. S. epidermidis), and more venomous despite
their phylogenic similarity (Waldvogel, 1990; Projan and Novick, 1997). CoNS when grown
on solid media form translucent white color colonies (Howard and Kloos, 1987). Genome
databases to date the staphylococcus aureus have been completed for 7 strains, MRSA, 8325,
MSSA COL, MW2, N315, and Mu50. S. aureus genome average size is 2.8Mb (Kuroda et al.,

Cell wall teichoic acid and cell membrane associated lipoteichoic acid are two types of teichoic

These acids provide a negative charge to the cell surface of staphylococcus and play an important
role in the activities of autolytic enzymes the localization of metal ions especially divalent cations
and acquisition (Wilkinson, 1997). These two components only accounts for about 90% of cell

components are virulence determinants and are involved in bacterial attachment to surfaces

The Presentation The 6th Mass Extinction Essay
From the presentation the 6th mass extinction:
1. Describe what biodiversity is and why biodiversity is so important.
Biodiversity is the variety of spices within plants and animals in the environment, it is an indicator
of ecosystem health. The importance of biodiversity:
Biodiversity provides humans with food and materials (like wood) that benefiting the economy.
Biodiversity performs a variety of ecological services: from absorbing chemicals to cleaning water
and providing oxygen. Some types of animals work as fertilizers (earthworm) and water filters
(jello fish).
Biodiversity also makes it easier for the environment to adapt to changes. If specific types of
animals extinct, similar types can take their place in the environment., serve as a source of food for
another animal or be predators themselves.
Protects climate stability.
Cultural importance. A lot of extinct animals were playing huge role in religious believes in some
civilizations
Gives more medical and pharmaceutical resources. For example, some amphibians are resistant to
cancer and etc.
Scientific importance. 2. Give 3 examples of biodiversity from my presentation (what does it
include)?
Earth has a large variety of ecosystems: hot and humid
Depending on the climate and the environment and physical settings, spices biodiversity will differ
greatly. For example, hot humid climate allows a lot of insects. 3. What are some of the ecosystem
services that a healthy and diverse ecosystem provide?

It can be an interesting fact for Non Chinese speakers or even for the Chinese themselves, as I
believe and as it seems. Almost all of us think that Sun s last name is Tzu, but the truth it is not.
Sun s real name is Sun Wu and Tzu is just an honorific particle name that was given to him, as it
is believed that he deserves it and I personally believe that too. Tzu in Chinese means Master and
someone who is a extremely appreciated, respected, accomplished and skillful person in any
field that would usually be given as a title to them after their death. I believe that Sun Tzu really
deserves this title, and let us say that if there is an election for The book of the semester , I will

s March to the Sea [/keywords] [learning objectives] By the end of this section, you will be able
to: Describe the reasons why many Americans doubted that Abraham Lincoln would be reelected
Explain how the Union forces overpowered the Confederacy By the outset of 1864, after three
years of war, the Union had mobilized its resources for the ongoing struggle on a massive scale.
The government had overseen the construction of new railroad lines and for the first time used
standardized rail tracks that allowed the North to move men and materials with greater ease.
The North s economy had shifted to a wartime model. The Confederacy also mobilized, perhaps
to a greater degree than the Union, its efforts to secure independence and maintain slavery. Yet
the Confederacy experienced ever greater hardships after years of war. Without the population of
the North, it faced a shortage of manpower. The lack of industry, compared to the North, undercut
the ability to sustain and wage war. Rampant inflation as well as food shortages in the South
lowered morale. [H2]THE RELATIONSHIP WITH EUROPE From the beginning of the war, the
Confederacy placed great hope in being recognized and supported by Great Britain and France.
European intervention in the conflict remained a strong possibility, but when it did occur, it was
not in a way anticipated by either the Confederacy or the Union. Napoleon III of

Adaptation of Modern African-American Writers
Adaptation of Modern African American Writers
Modern writers learn from the past by reading works written by authors of that particular era.
Contemporary African American writers gain knowledge and insight into the horrendous and
sometimes harmonious conditions that plagued Africans during slavery and the slave trade. By
reading the actual words, thoughts, and feelings of these enslaved Africans, modern writers receive
information from the perspective of the victimized. Lucille Clifton s slaveship is a vivid example of
a contemporary writer borrowing from the past to depict another account of the slave trade. The
fact that Clifton s father told her stories about her family s struggle and she, herself, traced her
lineage back to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of the kidnapping and brutalization of these Africans, many knew that returning to
their homeland was not an option. In slaveship , the narrator asks someone if ever again can
[his] tongue speak, can [his] bone walkäcan this sin live (lines 19 22). These lines can be
interpreted to mean will he speak his native language again, will he ever get off this boat, and
will he ever live his former life again. Likewise, in Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, he
saw [himself] deprived of all chance of returning to [his] native country (p 157). Even the idea of
referring to slaves or Africans as a sin is not from Clifton s own experience. Phillis Wheatley
wrote about people viewing Blacks as a walking sin because of the controversy surrounding the
mark placed on Cain by God in On Being Brought from Africa to America . She said that some
view our sable race with scornful eye. Their colour is a diabolic die. Remember Christians,
Negros black as Cain (p 171, lines 5 7). Clifton adapts from Equiano and Wheatley by using her
imagination and creative thoughts to capture the experience of the Middle Passage for many
Africans.
The tone of Clifton s slaveship parallels the works by Equiano and Wheatley. In slaveship , the
narrator expresses despair and disgust about his situation and disgrace for the men who captured
him and the other Africans. He wants to know from Jesus [or] Angel can these be men who vomit
us out from ships called Jesus, Angel, and

Effective Questioning Is Essential For Teachers For...
Effective questioning is essential for teachers to enable effective learning within the classroom
(Dillon and Dillon 1998). It helps teachers gain an insight of what children are thinking also
allowing them to analyse the quality of the children s answers (Perrot 1996). In the medium term
plan a range of questioning is used including closed and open ended questions. Open ended
questions allow children to give a more cognitive answer(Redfield and Rousseau 1981) as they
encourage thinking skills (Cockburn and Handscomb 2011) meaning teachers can gain a wider
range of answers from the children. This allows them to gain a deeper understanding of children s
individual knowledge (De Boo 2004) as well as helping assess children s progress from the question
types (Tizard and Huges 1984). Linking open ended questions to the National Curriculum is an
effective way to use questioning to assess children checking that they are meeting the guidelines
and are able to progress (Hudson 2013). Closed questions on the other hand allow children to
give simple answers that are either right or wrong (Barnes et al 1986; Dillon and Dillon 1998). It
has been found that a lot of teachers use closed questions because of the simplicity of the answers
children can give (Bloom 1956), but Barnes et at (1986) argues that they can cause more anxiety
and loss of self confidence in children as they feel pressured to give the correct answer. In the
medium term plan any closed questions are closely followed

School Dress Code Takes Away From Young Girls
School Dress Code Takes Away From Young Girls. The people who are in charge of creating the

some unnecessary rules in schools, and what schools deemed inappropriate or distracting. The
schools are taking some of the girls rights away. I believe that the dress codefor the younger
generation is too focused on girls, and it s way too strict. Students should not have to wear school

Schools are slowly taking away people s individuality, but only seems like they are focusing on
girls not boys. The way boys and girls get in trouble for violating dress codes is different and
girls are disproportionately targeted for disobeying it ( Rosalind Classroom Conversation ).
Rosalind agrees that girls are targeted for dress codes more than boys are. In a girls point of
view it seems unfair that boys can wear anything they would like, for example muscle shirts,
shirts with alcohol, shirts with naked women on them, but not even get dress coded or a warning

inappropriate (Bassett). Analuiza states that The only reason I go to school is to get my education.

Eye Dominance
Eye sensitivity and hand dominance
Have you ever wondered how handedness and eye dominance are associated? Do these things
have anything to do with your eyes sensitivity levels? This experiment will explore these questions
and more by comparing how sensitive your eye is and how far your peripheral vision can span with
left and right eyes. I will also find if ocular dominance has any play into peoples peripheral vision
and how far they can see left or right. In this case, eye dominance is the variable, and the peripheral
vision span will affect the variable by seeing if left or right dominant eyes can see farther in
peripheral vision than the non dominant eye
Hand dominance is established when either the right or left hemisphere becomes the dominant or
leader side. This tends to help us determine how we will proceed to preform functional tasks, such
as choosing which hand we use to throw a ball, brush our teeth, or hold a cup. (Morgan Lawless
2015) Usually, left handedness is less common than right handedness, and eye dominance works in
the same way, three fourths of the world are right eyed and the one fourth is left eyed, showing that
being left dominant in

When the townspeople enter her house for the first time in forty years, they find a bridal tomb:

Two Associated Systems
Two Associated Systems:
Two associated systems with the eye are the nervous and muscular systems. The eye is a part of
the nervous system because it is responsible for sending, receiving, and processing information
sent through the nerve impulses. The optic nerve is a part of the eye and part of the central
nervous system. As humans, we see something through our eyes and react to it. If we see
someone is going to hit us, we flinch. If we are reading something, or seeing a picture, we see it
and process it. By seeing the world through our eyes, it allows us to react and process our

If you are born with it, you will have to live with it. However, there is medical research going on
to try to cure color blindness. They are using gene therapy on monkeys to get them to see color.
Researchers hope that one day this will help humans too. Gene therapy helps repair the damaged
chromosome that causes color blindness. If color blindness is caused by something else; like an
injury to the eye, old age, glaucoma, or certain medication side effects, you must treat the
underlying cause to fix the non genetic colorblindness.
Prevention of Diseases: To prevent glaucoma a person should first off know about their family

preventative measures are to go to the eye doctor regularly, take prescribed eye drops, wear eye

(leafy greens and fish), and have the eyes screened regularly. By following these preventative

Peru s Economic And Social Impacts Of Illicit Drug Trade
Like many other countries in Latin America and across the globe, Peru is no stranger to the
economic and social impacts of illicit drug trade. However, unlike most other countries in the
region like Colombia, Peru does not experience a high rate or organized crime or violence
surrounding the drug trade. Although violence is minimal, the growth of cocoa and the production
of cocaine is a massive industry within the country, creating an interesting dynamic between the
people of Peru, those involved in the drugtrade, and the Peruvian Government. The drug trade in
Peru has been fueled by the geography, structure of the criminal groups involved, perceived
corruption of the military and police forces, and an ineffective and overcrowded prison system.
According to the U.S. Department of State, coca growth and cocaine production in Peru started in
the 19th century, when profits were high from exporting to the United States. In 1948, Peru
outlawed cocaine and the production of it, prompting illegal growth in the largely uninhabited
Hullaga Valley. The Hullaga Valley consists of incredibly rugged terrain, making it difficult for the
government to control the growth of coca, ultimately leading to an increase in cocaine production
in Peru. A large proportion of this cocaine was shipped southward out of Peru, through Chile, until
roughly 1970 when an increased military presence near shipment routes caused a reroute through
Colombia. By 1980, Peru was considered to be the world s

A Randomized Control Trial, Usher, Alcock, And Petra
In a randomized control trial by Smith, Usher, Alcock, and Petra (2013), the researchers aim to
determine whether the use of NeoWrap, a polyethylene occlusive wrap, immediately after birth was
more effective than standard protocol to control hypothermia in NICU admissions. Participants
consist of 92 infants under 27 weeks of gestation and 44 infants less than 30 weeks gestation. The
infants are randomly assigned to be in either the control or the intervention group; the control group
is transferred under the prewarmed heater immediately after birth, dried and wrapped with
prewarmed towels, and applied a hat. The intervention group is wrapped from the neck the down
with the polyethylene wrap before being transferred to the prewarmed heater and undergoing the
aforementioned process. World Health Organization s definition for hypothermia, as cited by Smith

The goal of the project was to make computer networking easier for client.
Access and Organize
In the initial phase, our team accessed the requirements of the project that was going was to be
developed and made the different plans for the execution of the project. The plans were different in
nature according to the implementation required of the project. The emphasis was on choosing the
right mix of technology and ease of implementation. The strategy formulation was based on the
using the optimum skills and talent available with the team.
In organize phase, the strategy was to collect as much information as required for making the
project. The team that was used for making the project is required to make important note of
assessment and organization, as to how the project is going to be planned as well as executed.
Strategic Planning
In strategic planning phase, the important element that was required for team was to go toward the
main core reason for which the project was conceptualized and that was making computer
networking easier for client. In this our team developed a strategic plan for implementing the
solution. This included dividing the work among all the team members according to the talent of
the team members and skills. Then the important criteria were to

The primary moral in A Worn path is the love, and life of Phoenix Jackson. The trail she travels
across interrupts her life. The love and affection she has for her grandson , is portrayed as her
love. If we read the story closer then it ll lead us to the conclusion that Phoenix relatively does
no longer have a Grandson. Phoenix goes to the doctor and states that her grandson has an flue

Case Study On Sulphur Dioxide

Case Study on Sulphur dioxide
Abstract
A study was done in South Durban using the health risk assessment model adopted from the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the Health effects of the air pollution from Sulphur
dioxide. Inhalation has been identified as the Sulphur Dioxide s main route of exposure hence it
affects the respiratory system. Prevalence range of respiratory diseases like asthma, chronic cough,
chronic phlegm, blocked runny nose and sinusitis.
Introduction
Sulphur dioxide is identified to be toxic when it has be breathed in and may cause burns and
irritations to the eyes and respiratory system due to the accumulation of fluid in the lungs. It is
concluded that about 99% of the sulphur dioxide in air comes from human sources and the main
source is industrial activities. Sulphur dioxide is a choking gas and may trigger an asthma attack
(even some hours after exposure). South Durban has several petrochemical refineries and chemical
industries and with its topography of a basin like shape. The structure aids with the accumulation of
Sulphur dioxide in the air, resulting in and this has been an ongoing concern for South Durban
since the 1980. There was no excess incidence of respiratory ... Show more content on

Antonio Octavian-Personal Narrative
97 years ago, our entire world was separated by a war that lasted for what felt like eons, but
today, the world has reunited, all in friendly rivalry, for the greatest sport of all time and its first
annual competition, the International Rocket League Championships! The crowd roared in
delight, as everyone was about to see the greatest world achievement in almost 100 years; being
reunited by a sport older than dirt, yet it all seemed like a new beginning, which for Antonio
Octavian, it was. 13 years before Today was a pretty decent day for Antonio. It had been an okay
day at school, mostly because he got out early because of a gas leak in the kitchen. He spent the
rest of daylight out in the North West part of town, mostly because it was really quiet and mostly
abandoned. 2 days ago, he found a nice house covered by lots of vines and overgrown bushes, a
lot like a jungle so he decided to call it the Jungle House . Inside it was really nice, still mostly
furnished and sealed well enough that almost no animals got inside except for a little mouse. He
left it alone, so that it would think he wouldn t hurt him so if he would ever decide to come back
it wouldn t attack him with his family. The last time he came here was when he originally found it.

Harry Potter Prisoner Of Azkaban Themes
Major themes in the series Harry Potter are constantly changing throughout the books, and
Rowling does an excellent job of making each blend into the story. In the book, Harry Potter and
the Prisoner of Azkaban, Rowling starts to explore some more unnerving themes such as the
gray area between good and evil. She uses themes in this book to catapult the series from just
being another set of kids books, to a work of art that goes to include ideas of everyday life.
Rowling places Harry deep in the center of a conspiracy between two sides and goes the whole
book not knowing the truth until the end. In chapter seventeen, it is revealed that Scabbers is really

For most of the first part of the book Rowling has us believing that Sirius Black is bad and is trying
to kill Harry. Rowling does a really good job at re directing the reader s hate towards Black so
that she can blindside them later. This allows Rowling some wiggle room to let her explore
more of Harry s past and how the wizarding world acts. Nearly all of the wizarding world is afraid
of Black, but that is only because they have been fed false information. The knowledge that
Black isn t as bad as everyone says he is comes about in the seventeenth chapter of the book,
when Black and our heroes meet face to face. Rowling doesn t allow Harry to accept that Peter
Pettigrew is actually the one that got his parents killed. Of course Harry doesn t want to believe
this as he have just spent the entire year in fear of Black coming to kill him. Now he is there and
is telling Harry not to believe what everyone is saying. This shows Rowling has been using that

Transmitting System Theory to Human Resource Management
Essay on Transmitting social system theory to human resource management Human resource
management can be considered as the most complex field of an organisation. Assuming that this
statement is true one could raise the question why human resource management is more diverse
than the other fields in an organisation as finance or sales. The answer will be always the same. It
is because of the individual, playing a major role within everyday s HR work environment. This
essay discusses what impact a less individual concentrated approach would have on human resource
management. This does not mean that the importance of the individual will be devalued. The essay

this essay shall be set on the German sociologist Niklas Luhmann (1927 1998) who developed an
ambitious as well as general theory of society and social systems. This theory understands social
systems as recursive networks of communication and observation (Fuchs, 1999, p. 117). Luhmann
considers organisations as autopoietically closed systems, which consist of communication or
decisions (e.g. decisions, actions). The social system theory for example regards the base of an
organisation as not open to the environment, whereas the rest of the system depends on the
environmental influences. Autopoietically closed means that they reproduce the elements they
consist of out of the element they consist of. These systems are also called a self referential system,
which basically means that there are systems, which have the ability to create a relation with itself
and differentiate this relationship towards its environment. Self referential systems are able to
differentiate between relations happening inside the system and outside the system, which creates
the awareness for the self referential system to

Theme Of Money Throughout The Story Of The Great Gatsby By...
Living in an advanced world, Joe Chip, who is always looking for coins to access places, learns
the power of money that can either provide opportunities or put characters at risk. Throughout
Philip K. Dick s Ubik, the recurring theme of money greatly influences characters and causes them
to act ambitiously. The desire to gain wealth play a major role which becomes the driving force of
many events in the story. Characters perceive others based on their social statusand treat them
accordingly. Richer characters get better quality services and poorer characters receive basic
services. Furthermore, Dick incorporated advertisements as a way of communication between
characters, which is similar to the way businesses communicate the value of products to attract
customers. Money affects the way characters act and how the events are played out throughout the
story, which speaks to readers about the corruptions in the reality of social structure. Large
corporations are willing to commit crimes to bring other companies to the bottom of the corporate
world to climb up to the top. Hollis Corporationis an example of a dark organization that is run by
Ray Hollis, who sets up traps to bring Runciter Associates down. Joe says, It was Ray Hollis who

The Kidnapping Of Patricia Hearst
When actually participating in an event it, you are unable to make a clear unbiased analysis of
the situation. However when there is an outsider in the event can be analyzed from several
different viewpoints and in psychological terms. One historical event that people still question
what really occurred is the kidnapping of Patricia Hearst. Patricia Patty Campbell Hearst, a
Berkeley undergraduate student, on February 4, 1974 at nineteen years of age was kidnapped by a
group of men and women after leaving her beaten fiancГ© behind (Winter, 2005). This group of
men and women formed the Symbionese Liberation Army(SLA), a radical group of domestic
terrorists, led by Donald DeFreeze, with the mission to destroy the capitalist state (Hixson, 2005).
The group was formed in Berkley, California with their main priorities being to end racism,
monogamy, the prison system, and all other institutions that have made and sustained capitalism.
(Winter, 2005).
The reason for the kidnapping was for the simple reason that Patricia Hearst was part of a
wealthy, powerful family that would ensure the group attention from the press, which is exactly
what occurred. Hearst s kidnapping made headlines across the country. Local police and FBI
searched for her, two days after the kidnapping on February 6, 1974 a letter was left at a radio
station signed by the SLA. It was a warrant for the arrest of Patricia Campbell Hearst along with
her credit card and a warning that anyone who interferes

Returning to the discussion of biofabrication, Me , not even being a professional scientist, can see
the implication of bio fabricated tissues into such research. There are also studies going on, known
as vitro methods, when they take certain human cells, and recreate them for testing. So test like
irritation to the skin and other tissues could be tested on fabricated cells instead of having live
animals suffer. That is an answer for tests which deal with the exterior such as cosmetic testing on
animals. But how about advanced animal testing, such as research for cures for parkinson s ,
Alzheimer s, and others? I m sorry to say that I have found no such alternative of animal testing,
other than human volunteers who have whatever they are trying to cure. For medical research
towards cures for problems like mental diseases, animal testing, is somewhat of a need. It s very
unrealistic to assume that there would be enough human volunteers to fully find a cure to mental

The Elements Of Existentialism In Jean Sartre s No Exit
Jean Sartre uses elements of existentialism in No exit to function as a metaphor for the hellish
impact of war. Sartre employs imagery, allusion, and imprisonment in order to express the
tragedies and complexities of living under Nazi occupation. In No Exit, Jean Sartre uses
imagery in order to represent how the living room, or hell , was controlled by an external force ,
The Nazi party. In the opening scene Garcin notes, Second Empire furniture, I observe. . . Well,
well, I dare say one gets used to it in time . The Second Empire was another occupation in France
lead by Napoleon the Third in which the working class was mobilized and living conditions
became much tougher. The fact that the room is furnished by a previous occupation shows how
this Hell that they are in, is completely controlled by an external force such as a regime. The room
in which they stay signifies hell within the book but externally is being likened to living under the
Nazi occupation and how unconventionally hell like it was. There were curfews, restrictions on
food, music, dance, art but there were no instruments of torture in the book or the occupation in
France at the time either. This shows how they were not being tortured in the conventional sense,
but there was a strong presence of mental torture that that characters go through within the book.
They face many challenges including privacy which is hard to come by in one living room to the
point where Inez states, Don t forget I m here,

never socializes well with others. He gets lost really easy on things that normal people never get

The Abrahamic Covenant

Old Testament History

Explain how Gods promise to Abraham is gradually outworked in the Old Testament culminating in
the coming of Christ
God s relationship to man has been defined by specific requirements and promises, divinely
imposed by God, unchangeable, legal agreement between that stipulates the conditions of their
relationship. Man can never negotiate with God or change the terms of the covenants; he can only
accept or reject them.
God s response to the rebellion at Babel was to choose a man called Abraham. Abraham was a
man that loved and worshipped the one true God. So God told Abraham to get away from the

The Israelites reach the borders of the Promised Land and Moses reviews the people s history in
the wilderness and pleads with them to be faithful to the law and to be obedient after they posses
the land. Moses is old by this time and he stresses the covenant made between God and Israel
through Abraham, Moses and the people reaffirm the covenant and reminding them of the
blessings that will come if the people are obedient. The Lord will not allow Moses to cross the
river Jordan with them and Joshua becomes his Successor.
Joshua leads the people into the Promised Land through taking Jericho by divine instruction. Joshua
is obedient to Gods instructions and the walls fall down and Jericho is conquered. However, the
people continue to be unfaithful to God: Achan takes devoted things from Jericho, and Joshua
launches an attack on Ai without God s instruction resulting in defeat at Ai and the stoning of Achan.
The land that has been conquered is allotted to the twelve tribes of Israel as instructed by God.
Joshua reminds the people of the covenant asking them which God they will serve, the people
have been blessed through Gods promise to their forefathers and Joshua renews the covenant with
God with the people at Shechem. As Joshua dies Israel has only partly conquered the Promised
Land due to Israel s disobedience to God:

Rubbish Can Be Sayd To Have Value In A Consumer Society
Outline the ways in which rubbish can be said to have value in a consumer society.
A consumer society is increasingly organized around consumption of goods and leisure, rather
than the production of materials and services. It rests on consuming material goods as a supreme
characteristic of value. Therefore individuals who do not consume are viewed as undervalued.
Peoples consumer choices (taste and style) are seen to be indicators of who they are as a person

Up to now the focus is on the idea that rubbish doesn t have value. That is, rubbish has no value to
the person who throws it away. ( Rubbish Society , 2009 p.118).It might still have negative value,
in that disposing of it money and costs time. For example if a person has to take any of his
household items for disposal then it will have negative value for him, considering transportation
costs and the consumed time
But rubbish can potentially have value for others. As the old saying goes: One man s junk is
another man s treasure .(Unknown). This is essential for defining how come there are businesses
of rubbish. Rubbish allows them to make money by disposing it off in proper manner. These
businesses turn rubbish into something of value. They make this possible by converting it into
marketable products or by moving it away for dumping. ( Rubbish Society , 2009 p.119). The
growth in the recycling industry and people s increased awareness and participation in recycling
programs all over the world has also created an opening for larger organizations to operate
recycling and disposal operations on an international level. The process of recycling can thus give
value to rubbish and waste by producing outputs

Campaign Finance Debate
General Information The debate about campaign finance reform is not a new problem but has a
long history of change. The first major debate over campaign finance arose from Andrew Jackson
s spoils system. During Andrew Jackson s 1828 term, he would give out positions in his office to
those who supported him during the election. The practice would inadvertently lead to the
assassination of President James Garfield and create the first law that placed a restraint on
relationships between donors and candidates known as the Pendleton Act of 1883. The law required
that civil service positions be filled based off of merit rather than party affiliation. The regulation on
campaigns would continue in 1896 when the government took... Show more content on

The debate would make it all the way to the Supreme Court, who would uphold the law saying
the law maintained campaign integrity and prevented corruption. The Supreme Court did,
however, remove spending limits as long as the money was spent to expressly endorse a
candidate. In 1979, FECA is further amended to allow individuals, unions, and corporations to
give unlimited funds for party building. The amendment created what was called soft money
donations and was a large loophole in the system. In 2002, the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act
banned soft money, unlimited contributions, and prohibited political ads made by unions and
corporations from airing within 30 days of a primary and 60 days of a general election. The law
would be taken to the Supreme Court twice in 2003 and 2007. Despite both times resulting in a 5
4 vote in favor of the law, the 2007 case would remove the political ad ban. Finally, the 2010
Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission Supreme Court case would not only dismantle the
Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act but allow for the formation of Super PACs which they stated did
not promote corruption (Rowen, n.d.). SuperPACs have launched campaign finance reformback
into the spotlight and are crucial to any discussion on the subject today.
The first political action committee called the Congress of Industrial Organizations would be created
in response to the Smith Connelly Act

Use Of Suspense In The Abandoned Farmhouse
Text Connection Essay Watch out! screamed Maggie. Suddenly the road took a sharp turn, and a
huge oak tree loomed in my headlights (Shusterman 39). When Neal Shusterman uses suspense
it s usually in a way that would probably end badly. He loves to try and hook the reader with
suspense, so then the readers would want to keep reading that same book. As evidence in Full
Tilt by Neal Shusterman and The Abandoned Farmhouse by Ted Kooser, suspense can be
effectively created through the use of imagery. Neal Shusterman effectively uses imagery to
create suspense in his novel, Full Tilt. All at once the train swung around an outside curve, its
riders screaming with joy, completely unaware of my idiot brother directly in their path
(Shusterman 8). This quote from Full Tilt is an example of imagery because, it is showing how
Quinn is on the track of the roller coaster, and the coaster was probably going to hit Quinn. This
quote creates suspense by showing how Blake s brother could ve gotten hit or killed if he hadn t
grabbed him off the tracks, and that leaves the readers thinking, what s going to happen. I could
see the very top of a Ferris wheel rising above the fog, churning the moonlit mist like a riverboat
paddle (Shusterman 40). This quote shows the method of imagery by giving a deeply descriptive
sentence about what the sky looks like. This quote creates suspense because, right before this quote
in the book it says things about how horrid the carnival was. The way

Representations Of Religion And Western Media
Representations of Religion in Western Media
Islam
There is a current obsession in western media, (during the last decade) pertaining to Islam and the
West . This current obsession is filled with negative signifiers with the global media s
predominantly negative, and to an extent racist portrayal of Islam and Muslims. Muslims are
generally represented as violent, fanatical, bigoted, or as extremists and terrorists. Media coverage
of Islam related issues has changed drastically since the start of the new millennium, both in
quantity and quality. The events the of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade
Center, cast Islam into the forefront of global media: not only did coverage of Islam rapidly
increase, particularly in news and entertainment media, but the way in which Islam was represented
by the media changed as well. The most prevalent Islamic stereotype in western media is the
radicalized Muslim insurgent, firm on waging jihad, or holy war, against the Western world. This
stereotype usually depicts violence as an inseparable part of being Muslim, as well as the religion
being a justifier for the violent actions.
An example of this kind of a negative stereotype can be seen in the character of Sayid Jarrah on
ABC s LOST. Jarrah, the only central Muslim character on the show, previously worked for the
Iraqi Republican Guard as a communications officer and interrogator, and is frequently shown using
torture techniques to extract information from prisoners.

doi:10.1080/01446190903521515
Ivan Lai from Macau University of Science and Technology, Macau and Frankie Lam from
University of South Australia, Adelaide used a research model based on nine performance
benchmarks and their corresponding performances. The intent of this research is to analyze the
participants concern about the significance of perceived performance criteria and their relevant
performance results in a construction project. The data of total 324 practitioners who were engaged

Their research only supported three hypotheses issuing differences in the apprehension of
performances of different practitioners in construction projects, different project kinds, and
different practical roles in the partnering companies. These findings have been backed by
Soetanto, Proverbs and Holt (2001), revealing deviations in the level of importance that was
ascribed to differing performance criteria. In conclusion, Lai and Lam research clearly shows that
people have different kinds of approach as far as criteria are concerned to measure their
performance.

and effectiveness of web based instructions. American Journal of Business Education, 3, 89 98

The Importance Of Animals In Captivity
Zoos, and Marine parks make multi billions of dollars a year from the tourist, families, and kids
who visit. (Linda Goldston). The animals were meant to live in the wild, and be free. Zoos trap
animals in an environment that is one millionth the size of their natural habitat causing them to
behave unnaturally. Even under the best circumstances at the best of zoos, captivity cannot be
compared to their natural habitat. Animals are prevented from doing the things that are natural and
important to them, like running, roaming, flying, climbing, choosing a partner, and being with
others of their own kind. Zoos teach people that it is acceptable to interfere with animals and keep
them locked up in captivity, where they are bored, cramped, lonely,... Show more content on

(Katherine Glosser). Polar bears cover 31,000 square miles in their habitat searching for food. In a
zoo they are living in an area that is one millionth the size smaller than they belong in. Being in a
small area causes the polar bear to stress and pace.(Katherine Glosser). Animals such as giraffes
and zebras were designed, and are built, to run across miles of the safari, which is something
they cannot do in captivity. A whale travels up to 100 miles a day, and can go 1,000 feet deep.
At SeaWorld a pool is only 27.6 feet deep. Many visitors at SeaWorld have noticed that the orcas
dorsal fin is floppy when it is supposed to be straight up. That is due to the small space and
sadness the whale has. (Katherine Glosser). In captivity, these whales can only swim in endless
circles in tanks that are equivalent to bathtubs, and they don t even come close to being the space
they need for any natural behavior. They are forced to perform meaningless tricks and often taken
away from family members when they re shuffled between parks. Most die far short of their natural
life

  • 4. Essay On Bob Marley The rebellious political Rastafarian himself Bob Marley will forever be the king of reggaeton. Reggae music was unheard of in the United States and in other countries until Bob Marley. Bob Marley s records elevated the music industry producing an island sound that consisted of syncopated rhythms and pizzicato guitar melodies. Bob s career lasted almost 20 years from the year 1962 until his untimely death in 1981. People are still inspired by his work today and his record sales provide evidence of his legacy. Retail food establishments like, chain restaurants, corner stores, supermarkets, farmers markets, and mobile vendors affect public health. Public officials have advocated a range of policy options to cities for improving access to healthy food and decreasing the popularity of unhealthy food in various retail food settings (Diller and Graff). Paul A. Diller and Samantha Graff convey to readers that Regulating retail food establishments can be a powerful tool for improving a community s food environment, especially in low income food deserts areas that lack full service supermarkets and restaurants and are saturated with fast food restaurants and liquor stores. Cities challenging unusual obesity rates are considering numerous governing policies for expanding the convenience and accessibility of nutritious food, and diminishing the universality of fast food restaurants and obesogenic packaged food. According to the article Regulating Food Retail for Obesity Prevention: How Far Can Cities Go? Diller and Graff indicate that most states grant cities or counties some form of home rule, allowing for broad local policymaking authority. In many home rule states, cities or counties exercise the police power that is, the authority to regulate for the health, safety, and welfare of the community concurrently with the state legislature. This home rule is a form of dividing state and local power that allows municipalities to exercise only those powers directly assigned by state law. A Research Study On Hunger Free Colorado Introduction This study constitutes an attempt to induce higher income households to donate a greater percentage of their disposable income to charitable causes. The way in which it seeks to achieve this goal is through the administration of an online survey whose primary intent is the elicitation of dissonant processes, which may serve to enhance the subjective valuation about the charity, Hunger Free Colorado. According to their website: Hunger Free Colorado leads efforts to connect families and individuals to food and nutrition resources, and to create positive changes in systems, policies and social views, so no Coloradan goes hungry. By working at the federal, state and county levels, we streamline business processes and adopt best practices that will help alleviate hunger throughout the state. Considering the following statistics, it is clear why Hunger Free Colorado s work is so important: Nearly 1 in 7 Coloradans struggled with hunger in 2013, facing times when there was not enough money to buy food for their families or themselves (Colman Jenson, Gregory, Singh, 2013). More than 1 in 5 Colorado households with children (22%) reported food hardship, facing financial challenges to put food on the table (Food Research and Action Center, 2013). The government had overseen the construction of new railroad lines and for the first time used standardized rail tracks that allowed the North to move men and materials with greater ease. The North s economy had shifted to a wartime model. The Confederacy also mobilized, perhaps to a greater degree than the Union, its efforts to secure independence and maintain slavery. Yet the Confederacy experienced ever greater hardships after years of war. Without the population of the North, it faced a shortage of manpower. The lack of industry, compared to the North, undercut the ability to sustain and wage war. Rampant inflation as well as food shortages in the South lowered morale. Contemporary African American writers gain knowledge and insight into the horrendous and sometimes harmonious conditions that plagued Africans during slavery and the slave trade. As a result of the kidnapping and brutalization of these Africans, many knew that returning to their homeland was not an option. In slaveship , the narrator asks someone if ever again can [his] tongue speak, can [his] bone walkГ¤can this sin live (lines 19 22). These lines can be interpreted to mean will he speak his native language again, will he ever get off this boat, and will he ever live his former life again. Likewise, in Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, he saw [himself] deprived of all chance of returning to [his] native country (p 157). Even the idea of referring to slaves or Africans as a sin is not from Clifton s own experience. Phillis Wheatley wrote about people viewing Blacks as a walking sin because of the controversy surrounding the mark placed on Cain by God in On Being Brought from Africa to America . She said that some view our sable race with scornful eye. Their colour is a diabolic die. Remember Christians, Negros black as Cain (p 171, lines 5 7). • 14. Effective Questioning Is Essential For Teachers For... Effective questioning is essential for teachers to enable effective learning within the classroom (Dillon and Dillon 1998). It helps teachers gain an insight of what children are thinking also allowing them to analyse the quality of the children s answers (Perrot 1996). In the medium term plan a range of questioning is used including closed and open ended questions. Open ended questions allow children to give a more cognitive answer(Redfield and Rousseau 1981) as they encourage thinking skills (Cockburn and Handscomb 2011) meaning teachers can gain a wider range of answers from the children. This allows them to gain a deeper understanding of children s individual knowledge (De Boo 2004) as well as helping assess children s progress from the question types (Tizard and Huges 1984). Linking open ended questions to the National Curriculum is an effective way to use questioning to assess children checking that they are meeting the guidelines and are able to progress (Hudson 2013). Closed questions on the other hand allow children to give simple answers that are either right or wrong (Barnes et al 1986; Dillon and Dillon 1998). It has been found that a lot of teachers use closed questions because of the simplicity of the answers children can give (Bloom 1956), but Barnes et at (1986) argues that they can cause more anxiety and loss of self confidence in children as they feel pressured to give the correct answer. However, unlike most other countries in the region like Colombia, Peru does not experience a high rate or organized crime or violence surrounding the drug trade. Although violence is minimal, the growth of cocoa and the production of cocaine is a massive industry within the country, creating an interesting dynamic between the people of Peru, those involved in the drugtrade, and the Peruvian Government. The drug trade in Peru has been fueled by the geography, structure of the criminal groups involved, perceived corruption of the military and police forces, and an ineffective and overcrowded prison system. According to the U.S. Department of State, coca growth and cocaine production in Peru started in the 19th century, when profits were high from exporting to the United States. In 1948, Peru outlawed cocaine and the production of it, prompting illegal growth in the largely uninhabited Hullaga Valley. The Hullaga Valley consists of incredibly rugged terrain, making it difficult for the government to control the growth of coca, ultimately leading to an increase in cocaine production in Peru. Harry Potter Prisoner Of Azkaban Themes Major themes in the series Harry Potter are constantly changing throughout the books, and Rowling does an excellent job of making each blend into the story. In the book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Rowling starts to explore some more unnerving themes such as the gray area between good and evil. She uses themes in this book to catapult the series from just being another set of kids books, to a work of art that goes to include ideas of everyday life. Rowling places Harry deep in the center of a conspiracy between two sides and goes the whole book not knowing the truth until the end. In chapter seventeen, it is revealed that Scabbers is really Peter Pettigrew which causes Harry to figure out what really happened and who really... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For most of the first part of the book Rowling has us believing that Sirius Black is bad and is trying to kill Harry. Rowling does a really good job at re directing the reader s hate towards Black so that she can blindside them later. Nearly all of the wizarding world is afraid of Black, but that is only because they have been fed false information. The knowledge that Black isn t as bad as everyone says he is comes about in the seventeenth chapter of the book, when Black and our heroes meet face to face. Rowling doesn t allow Harry to accept that Peter Pettigrew is actually the one that got his parents killed. Of course Harry doesn t want to believe this as he have just spent the entire year in fear of Black coming to kill him. Now he is there and is telling Harry not to believe what everyone is saying. Transmitting System Theory to Human Resource Management Essay on Transmitting social system theory to human resource management Human resource management can be considered as the most complex field of an organisation. Assuming that this statement is true one could raise the question why human resource management is more diverse than the other fields in an organisation as finance or sales. The answer will be always the same. It is because of the individual, playing a major role within everyday s HR work environment. This essay discusses what impact a less individual concentrated approach would have on human resource management. This does not mean that the importance of the individual will be devalued. The main focus of this essay shall be set on the German sociologist Niklas Luhmann (1927 1998) who developed an ambitious as well as general theory of society and social systems. This theory understands social systems as recursive networks of communication and observation (Fuchs, 1999, p. 117). Luhmann considers organisations as autopoietically closed systems, which consist of communication or decisions (e.g. decisions, actions). The social system theory for example regards the base of an organisation as not open to the environment, whereas the rest of the system depends on the environmental influences. Autopoietically closed means that they reproduce the elements they consist of out of the element they consist of. These systems are also called a self referential system, which basically means that there are systems, which have the ability to create a relation with itself and differentiate this relationship towards its environment. Self referential systems are able to differentiate between relations happening inside the system and outside the system, which creates the awareness for the self referential system to ... Living in an advanced world, Joe Chip, who is always looking for coins to access places, learns the power of money that can either provide opportunities or put characters at risk. Throughout Philip K. Dick s Ubik, the recurring theme of money greatly influences characters and causes them to act ambitiously. The desire to gain wealth play a major role which becomes the driving force of many events in the story. Characters perceive others based on their social statusand treat them accordingly. Richer characters get better quality services and poorer characters receive basic services. Furthermore, Dick incorporated advertisements as a way of communication between characters, which is similar to the way businesses communicate the value of products to attract customers. Money affects the way characters act and how the events are played out throughout the story, which speaks to readers about the corruptions in the reality of social structure. Large corporations are willing to commit crimes to bring other companies to the bottom of the corporate world to climb up to the top. However when there is an outsider in the event can be analyzed from several different viewpoints and in psychological terms. One historical event that people still question what really occurred is the kidnapping of Patricia Hearst. Patricia Patty Campbell Hearst, a Berkeley undergraduate student, on February 4, 1974 at nineteen years of age was kidnapped by a group of men and women after leaving her beaten fiancГ© behind (Winter, 2005). This group of men and women formed the Symbionese Liberation Army(SLA), a radical group of domestic terrorists, led by Donald DeFreeze, with the mission to destroy the capitalist state (Hixson, 2005). The group was formed in Berkley, California with their main priorities being to end racism, monogamy, the prison system, and all other institutions that have made and sustained capitalism. (Winter, 2005). The reason for the kidnapping was for the simple reason that Patricia Hearst was part of a wealthy, powerful family that would ensure the group attention from the press, which is exactly what occurred. Hearst s kidnapping made headlines across the country. Local police and FBI searched for her, two days after the kidnapping on February 6, 1974 a letter was left at a radio station signed by the SLA. Sartre employs imagery, allusion, and imprisonment in order to express the tragedies and complexities of living under Nazi occupation. In No Exit, Jean Sartre uses imagery in order to represent how the living room, or hell , was controlled by an external force , The Nazi party. In the opening scene Garcin notes, Second Empire furniture, I observe. . . Well, well, I dare say one gets used to it in time . The Second Empire was another occupation in France lead by Napoleon the Third in which the working class was mobilized and living conditions became much tougher. The fact that the room is furnished by a previous occupation shows how this Hell that they are in, is completely controlled by an external force such as a regime. The room in which they stay signifies hell within the book but externally is being likened to living under the Nazi occupation and how unconventionally hell like it was. There were curfews, restrictions on food, music, dance, art but there were no instruments of torture in the book or the occupation in France at the time either. This shows how they were not being tortured in the conventional sense, but there was a strong presence of mental torture that that characters go through within the book. When Neal Shusterman uses suspense it s usually in a way that would probably end badly. He loves to try and hook the reader with suspense, so then the readers would want to keep reading that same book. As evidence in Full Tilt by Neal Shusterman and The Abandoned Farmhouse by Ted Kooser, suspense can be effectively created through the use of imagery. Neal Shusterman effectively uses imagery to create suspense in his novel, Full Tilt. All at once the train swung around an outside curve, its riders screaming with joy, completely unaware of my idiot brother directly in their path (Shusterman 8). This current obsession is filled with negative signifiers with the global media s predominantly negative, and to an extent racist portrayal of Islam and Muslims. Muslims are generally represented as violent, fanatical, bigoted, or as extremists and terrorists. Media coverage of Islam related issues has changed drastically since the start of the new millennium, both in quantity and quality. The events the of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, cast Islam into the forefront of global media: not only did coverage of Islam rapidly increase, particularly in news and entertainment media, but the way in which Islam was represented by the media changed as well. The most prevalent Islamic stereotype in western media is the radicalized Muslim insurgent, firm on waging jihad, or holy war, against the Western world. This stereotype usually depicts violence as an inseparable part of being Muslim, as well as the religion being a justifier for the violent actions.
