New business model as a 21st
century solution for Indonesia
urban setting
CONTENT
• Benefits and drawbacks of EV fleet
• Updates on Indonesia situation
• Potential EV fleet business model
• Business model enablers
• Potentials for future
• Profile
BENEFITS & DRAWBACKS OF EV FLEET
BENEFITS
• Lower operating costs and
maintenance
• Less harmful emission – Direct and
Lifecycle
• Green, uplifted corporate image
• More revenue streams and
opportunities
DRAWBACKS
• High battery cost – initial and
replacement
• Coverage of recharge locations
• Long recharge time
• Shorter driving range per full
charge
UPDATES ON INDONESIA
SITUATION
1. Regulations
• Proposed luxury tax for motor vehicles will favor
EV. Expected investment to flow in for EV
manufacturing
• EV technical specs are being formalized, incl
requirement to emit sound for safety
2. Infrastructure
• PLN power points (SPLU) already at 700 locations
around greater Jakarta
• First EV charging station opened in Kuningan
POTENTIAL EV FLEET
BUSINESS MODEL
Based on Multimodal transport
• Connect with MRT & LRT at various suburbs like
Cibubur, Lebak Bulus and so on
• Replacing private cars and motorcycles for last
mile transport
• Bigger revenue streams: increased volumes
through more frequent usage, integrated
payment system with LRT & MRT operators, new
customers from train commuters
BUSINESS MODEL ENABLERS
1. Vehicles - Cost effective and comply with regulations
• Work with auto makers for suitable vehicles and support
2. Infrastructure – charging stations at train stations
• Cooperation with the state owned electricity and energy companies, both shown
interest since aware of possible disruption to their business
3. Whole financial simulation and projections – detail study to be done
• Using case for a small B-SUV petrol vs EV, rough simulated EV cost of ownership is
24% of petrol giving saving of >$18k within 5 years. But acquisition cost for EV
might be >$10,000 more expensive without extra government subsidy
• New revenue potentials to be compared against possible subsidy given to EV
POTENTIALS FOR FUTURE
• Connectivity between vehicles, allowing
seamless on-demand transport between modal
changes – “Personal Travel Assistant App”
• Battery swapping and leasing business
• Full integration with public transport (MRT, LRT)
– integrated payment system and fare
management, real time traveller information
• E-scooter and autonomous vehicle for last mile
transport
