INTRODUCTION
 Smart Quill was Invented By Lyndsey Williams of
Cambridge University.
 Smart Quill is a pen which remembers the words that
writes and then transfer them into computer text.
 Smart quill contains sensors that records movement by
using the earth’s gravity system
WORKING
 User just need to push a button and start writing what he wants and the
accelerometer are used to sense the movements of the pen.
 It measures the pen’s movement and match it with programmed letters in its
memory.
 Reads handwriting not only on paper but also in air – horizontal and
vertical.
 There is also a small three-line screen to read the information stored in the
pen
 The Two important techniques used here are:
Accelerometer Technology.
Handwriting Recognition Software.
WORKING
 Accelerometer is the device used for measuring motion
here we use it to measure the motion of the pen and transmit this
information to a small microprocessor.
 Handwriting Recognition Software
Used to recognize handwriting of the user.
FEATURES
 Display screen:
 3 line display screen with tilt scroll.
 Memory:
 It uses 4 Mb EEPROM.
 Saves up to 10 pages of notes.
 Power:
 Works on AAA battery.
 Continuously work 25 hours with single battery.
APPLICATIONS
 Replace keyboard with Smart quill
 Input to other devices
 Used for receiving pager & E-mail message
 provides handheld computer applications such as digital diary, contacts,
calculators etc.
 Prevents unnecessary typing to save time.
 Support’s Speech Recognition system
CONCLUSION
 Smart quill is convenient for use.
 It could become a general day-to-day life pen.
 This helps people get rid of typing on computers.
