3. ABSTRACT
In the market there are various pen’s available but none of them
performs operations other than writing.
This pen focuses on the extraordinary invention of a pen that
performs operation more than writing.
This has made computer manufacturers to go for almost gadget
like computers.
This problem overcome by reducing the size of handheld
computers

1.It works with specific type of paper or note book.
2.The digital pen is misused.
3.No security of data.
6. Proposed system
Smart quill was invented by LYNDSAY WILLIAMS of
Cambridge university along with British telecommunication.
Smart quill is a pen, that can remember the words that it is
used to write, and then transform them into computer text.
Smart quill contains sensors that records movement by
using earth gravity irrespective of the platform used.
It is basically called the “PEN FOR THE NEW
MILLENIUM”.

User can use any platform for writing like paper ,screen,
tablet or even air.
Smart quill uses the normal catridge ink available in the
market, it does not require any special ink to write.
The pen is slightly larger than ordinary fountain pen ,
with a screen on the barrel.
Smart quill pen overcomes the problem of typing.
“Consistency of hand writing, rather than neatness, is the
only condition for accuracy”

12. Display technology:
KOPIN CYBER DISPLAY Technology is used in
smart quill pen.
It display the ¼ inch on LCD display screen.
Typical pixel size is 15 micrometer square as a result
small display for resolution is possible.
Display 3 to 4 lines on the screen.
The screen lies on the barrel of pen.
13. Communication with other devices:
The current prototype
hooks up to a PC via a
cable and electronic
docking station called an
"inkwell.”
Future models could
receive e-mails and pager
messages via a wireless
messaging system .
14. Display scrolls by tilt screen
• By tilting the pen, user can choose applications and
scroll through with out using scroll buttons.
• This was done by using Micro Electromechanical
Systems (MEMS) tilt sensors to measure tilt angle to
earth .
15. Accelerometer Technology
This technology uses a device called Accelerometer
which is used for measuring motion.
A tiny accelerometer in a pen that could be used to
detect the starts and stops, arcs and loops of the hand
writing and transmit this information to the
microcontroller and it would make sense of it as text.
16. Memory :
It uses 4MB EEPROM memory.
Up to 10 pages of notes can be stored locally
on the pen memory.
The data is stored in the memory on the pen
until it is copied to the personal computer.
17. Power :
Smart Quill works on AAA
battery. It can continuously work
25hrs with a single AAA battery.
The pen has automatic on/off
system.

It can be developed for cursive writings and
traditional languages.
22. Conclusion
Smart Quill will be brought to the market by the end of
2006.The estimated cost of this futuristic pen is around
$600. SmartQuill supports two factors small size and
convenient use. The future of Smart Quill ensures all
computation power the user needs right inside the pen.
People could use the pen in the office to replace a
keyboard. It skip the typing and save our time.
