The smart helmet project aims to minimize deaths from motorcycle accidents by automatically alerting emergency services when an accident occurs. The helmet contains vibration sensors that detect if an accident happens. An Arduino board then extracts location data from an attached GPS module. If the sensors detect a hard impact, the Arduino causes an interfaced GSM module to immediately send a message with the crash location to ambulances, police, or family members. This is intended to reduce response times and save lives by getting medical help to the crash site more quickly. Additional safety features could include only allowing the motorcycle to start if a helmet is detected as being worn using transmitters and receivers.
