The small intestine is part of the gastrointestinal tract located between the stomach and large intestine. It is on average 6.9 meters long in adults and 2.5-3 cm in diameter. The small intestine is divided into three parts - the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. The duodenum receives food from the stomach and digestive juices from the pancreas and gallbladder to aid in digestion. The jejunum is where most absorption of digested food takes place. The ileum further absorbs vitamins, minerals and remaining nutrients before the waste enters the large intestine.
